Zinphad

Should do the full watch along for this one.

Louis Marzullo

😂 Can you do one Western reaction talking like that the whole time??

Bill W

I think someone gave Dawn a Western/Southern phrase book and she's as happy as a puppy with two peters!

Robert Jewell

Worst thing about getting to the end of a Western week movie watch is I have to wait til tomorrow for the next one. In the '60s and '70s a style of Western appeared called revisionist Westerns of which this is one although much lighter in tone than some wherein in this film the technique is more self-aware Wonderful reaction too.

Bartleby

I’m predicting “Once Upon A Time in the West” before the weekend is through.

And if you’ve ever heard of the famous American independent film festival in Utah. The Sundance Film Festival That film festival was shepherded by Robert Redford. The actor who played The Sundance Kid in this. The festival was named Sundance in honor of Robert Redford as he did so much to bring independent films to light.

Bill W

I'll never get past the bicycle scene and the completely out of place and out of time song.

Jimmy Walker

Think you used enough dynamite there, Butch?

Glenn Rutherford

'I can't swim!' "are you crazy? The fall will probably kill ya"

Louis Marzullo

The map! 🤣 You can autograph it & auction it off. Proceeds go to y(our) favorite cause, Dawn's Doggie Rescue Farm! (Btw, when they first arrive in Bolivia, it looked like a good starter-farm you could buy on the cheap!)

Robert Inman

It did win 4 Academy Awards (including Best Song for Raindrops.......)

Dawn has definitely seen enough of Clint Eastwood’s classic westerns to be equipped and appreciative of what he’s saying in Unforgiven. And it would make a lot of sense to go from a Sergio Leone western to Unforgiven. Personally speaking, I’d like to see the last day of western week go to Young Guns. Though I suppose it’s arguable, Young Guns is the western that revived the genre from deaths door. Young Guns ushered in the modern era of westerns and paved the way for everything from Tombstone, the remake of 3:10 to Yuma, Quick and the Dead. So either Young Guns or Unforgiven would be ideal in my mind for a closer. (Now watch it be neither of those films 😂)

Bill W

I have no problem with the song itself...just that it is an anachronism.

Alan Jones

Lots of familiar faces in this one: (SOME SPOILERS) Paul Newman and Robert Redford would team up again for The Sting (1973). This would be a great follow-up film. It also stars Robert Shaw who was Quint the crusty old shark hunter in Jaws (1975). Katharine Ross broke big in this and in The Graduate (1967), and continued in a somewhat less stellar vein in a long a varied career. Strother Martin (the mining company foreman who hired them as payroll guards) you've seen in True Grit (1969) as the horse trader that Maddy gets the better of early on in the film. He had an iconic moment in Cool Hand Luke (1967) as the prison warden who says, "What we have here is failure to communicate." Henry Jones (the bicycle salesman) you just saw in 3:10 to Yuma, as Alex Potter, the friend who ends up hanged in the hotel lobby. He also portrayed the coroner who presided over the inquest in Vertigo (1958) [edited to corrrect a booboo; see replies below], which inquired into the circumstances of Madeleine's death. Cloris Leachman (Agnes, the call girl that Butch was carousing with while the Marshal was failing to raise a posse across the street), you've seen as Frau Blucher (whinny!) in Young Frankenstein (1974). She is known to TV viewers from the 70's from the Mary Tyler Moore show, and her own spun-off sitcom Phyllis. A hard working and multi-faceted talent, well worth rememering. Kenneth Mars (marshal) was also in Young Frankenstein, as the police constable with the mechanical arm. Another reliable and often seen comic character actor.

As a retired Professor of Geography, I am seriously impressed with Map-Maker Dawn. And, as a purveyor of reactors, I am seriously entertained by Smile-Bringer Dawn. I am figuratively in heaven this week. I only wish that we could get more than one movie a day, but I begrudgingly accept the fact that Miss Dawn has obligations other than to delight me (dammit).

Jon Anderson

One of my all time favourites. And most of it is true! Whenever I read about Butch and Sundance, I'm amazed at how faithful the fillum is to their story. They didn't look as good as Paul Newman and Robert Redford, but nobody does.

Chicago Artist Jon

Newman and Redford team up in another banger, The Sting. 🐝

Roger Freeman

Did you recognize Strother Martin this time?

David Davidson

Hi Dawn! 😊 I'm so so glad I joined here, I love your content! Hi from Macedonia! Could you please answer my message when you can? Please? 😊 😊

John Lawton

Just a note for Dawn: “Rustling” is horse stealing, often a capital offense in the Old West. Those who steal horses are called “rustlers.” (Nothing to do with metal corrosion by rust or guys named Rusty!)

Alan Jones

Oops! Bad on me. Of course, Vertigo. Rushed the comment without thinking through. Thanks for the catch. I may go back and edit, which will make these comments superfluous.

Bartleby

@Louis Last day of western week! And it seems they’ve been going in chronological order. That would disqualify Once Upon a Time in the West. I’m thinking it won’t be Unforgiven though. Dawn is aware of the special, unique nature of that film. It deserves its own place and not just one pick out of the week. I would love it to be Young Guns, but I’m thinking Tombstone is also likely.

Louis Marzullo

Yeah, it's 50/50 'tween Unforgiven & Tombstone. I can see Dawn thinking "What better way to cap Western week than Unforgiven?" as easily as the "it deserves its own special time & place" argument. So it's a coin toss. Whatever you call, just don't put the coin in your pocket.
