Here's what we have coming this week 😊 I haven't seen any of them yet so no spoilers please!! We had family staying this past week so I haven't been filming. Watching Now, Voyager today but I may have a funky eye 😅 I got shampoo in it this morning when I was washing my hair. I don't remember it being that sore when I was a kid!! Also, it's meant to be like 99% natural so why did it sting like a MF? Looking forward to decorating for Halloween (probs after filming today) and then you know me! The Halloween decs will come down and the Christmas straight up! 🤣

Do you enjoy the 'Trick or Treaters' or do you switch the lights off? Oh!! Here's some things we do in Scotland that I guess nobody else does haha did you know we used to use neeps (turnips) instead of pumpkins for lanterns. It would take HOURS to scoop out the inside. I remember my dad using his drill cause the inside of a neep is rock solid!! We go 'guising'. And we do apple dookin'! Also the donuts on a string thing but I don't think that's a Scottish tradition. Remember the days we would put a black bin bag round our neck as a cape and call it a costume? No? Okay that might be a Scottish thing then 😏

Oh, wow! Now, Voyager is an excellent surprise. How'd you come across that film, Dawn?

JL Green

Excellent choices (as usual 👌🏾). As a pre teen my Mom made my Halloween costumes. On one occasion she made a vampire costume for me complete with dark eye makeup (I supplied the fangs 😆). I scared myself looking in the mirror but calmed down because vampires don't cast a reflection.

How big were the neeps?!? 🤔😳 Was it a euphemism for something else? "Hey, check out the neeps on that chick!" or "That move took some colossal neeps, mate!" 😁... No need to switch the lights off here. They just don't come anymore in my neighborhood ☹️... The cape trick? Oh yeah! But it was some leftover plastic tarp that our landlord (Mr. Cilento, R.I.P. God, what that poor man endured! 😆) kept in the garage after he wrapped the fig tree in the backyard for the winter... Natural items can sting, too, Dawn. Like, I don't know, lemon juice, vinegar, hot sauce. Check that ingredients label! 😢... It's always the best when you get these conversation threads going! ☺️

Louis Marzullo

Apple dookin I'm going to assume (always dangerous) is our bobbing for apples but what is donuts on a string? Sounds like something Homer Simpson made up! 😄

Jon Anderson

I remember using neeps for lanterns. So it's definitely a Northern Ireland thing too, but then we're really Scottish anyway ;)

Love your stories . Turnips look scary as hell. 😮 I get full size candy bars for trick or treaters. Too many people turn their lights off . Makes me sad for the kids . Nice way to meet your neighbors too.

Billy B

Platoon . Great movie . It’s a war movie , so mentally prepare yourself for it . Don’t know the others . Hope family visit was a nice time. 🙃

Chicago Artist Jon

We don't even have trick or treat anymore. On Saturday businesses just hand out candy. Kids just go from one business to the next and get their bags filled. Sad. Zero adventure and no tradition in that.

Louis Marzullo

Hey, Capt. Renault, too! Was hoping All About Eve would be Dawn's intro to Bette Davis. Ah well, c'est la vie! 😁

Robert Inman

Last costume I wore wasn't for Halloween. I was directed to be a pink Energizer Bunny with enlarged genitalia for my initiation into the Navy Chief Petty Officer's mess - lots of tricks, no treats!

John A

"Now, Voyager" is the best one on this list, 2nd "Platoon" then 3rd "Hot Fuzz" I am interested in knowing what order everyone else would put these in.

Louis Marzullo

🤣😂🤣 Can you go into detail about the initiation rite itself, Robert, or is that classified??

Robert Nelson

I've only seen Platoon (about 7, 453, 691 times). Love it. Haven't seen Now Voyager. Only saw snippets of Hot Fuzz.

John A

Alright you can let me know your thoughts after you watch them, if you do.

John A

That is a lot of time, if that is truly the case, have you seen any other movies lol. Platoon is a great movie. So I think you will still have Platoon as the best one of the bunch, knowing you love it that much lol

Carlos Perez

I can hear "Adagio for Strings" already...

Robert Inman

The details are something kept to members of the mess. Of course the process is quite different now than when I participated - at that time it was an old tradition akin to the shellback ceremony at sea. The Chief's initiation was a months long process of mentoring/indoctrinating/bonding a sailor into the significantly different duties and expectations for a Senior NCO and culminated in a ceremony/trial by other members of the mess, held on the day when all the selectees for that year are frocked to their new rank at the same time. Most sailors have seen some of the process as they served in their units. (I didn't as I was an AF member assigned to the Navy EOD School as an instructor at the time...culture shock!)

Danny Noon

We used turnips in England too, they look more scary than pumpkins

Patreot

Whoa! You’re reacting to “Now, Voyager?” That’s freaking awesome! Thanks to whoever had the good taste to suggest it. We’re finally going to get a classic movie that’s a bit outside of the “classic movies 101” list that people always push. Amazing pick!

Louis Marzullo

Not now, voyager!! Come back tomorrow!! 🤣 (Hope no one is sick 🙏🏻 How is your eye??)

Duke Pootentooter

It'll be tough on the trick or treaters braving the snow we are getting in Minneapolis today. Tuesday: 80 degrees F / 27 C Today: Snow Tomorrow: Fog? Hail? Tornado? Volcanic eruption? Who knows?

Nikolai

Where’s Hot Fuzz then?

sammy

Do we need our own copy to watch the full reaction?
