One of the best episodes. Great reaction. Andrew Sachs suffered again in making this episode. He was paid damages for his injuries by the BBC after a jacket was treated with acid by the special effects department to look as if it was on fire. It really did burn through to his skin and he bore the scars for a long time until they peeled off. In June of 2020, the British streaming service UKTV, which is owned by the BBC, announced it was removing the episode "The Germans" from its service due to insensitive racial slurs (the Major using coarse racial language regarding the West Indian cricket team). John Cleese blasted the move on Twitter stating "The BBC is now run by a mixture of marketing people and petty bureaucrats." He denounced the removal as "cowardly and gutless" adding that while the language is offensive and outdated it should be addressed within the context of both the character and era. UKTV has since announced it would reinstate the episode with the added guidance about the offensive language at the beginning.

I think someone on YouTube commented that the episode had been banned so I did wonder how I managed to stream it. This makes sense! And sounds exactly like John to do this. As I'm editing these I'm thinking the one I'm on is the best episode until I do the next one 😂
