The 1950s has come on top this month! I've lined up 10 movies for you all to vote on over on YouTube, so make sure you head over to the 'Community' section to cast your vote and remember to vote on both polls!

Once that's over, the top four movies will come back here to decide the final winner 😁

Let's see: - Harvey - Sunset Blvd. - The Third Man - The Band Wagon - The Caine Mutiny - Rear Window - 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea - The King & I - Seven Samurai - Gojira (Japanese-language version) - Around the World in 80 Days (It's a Madx4 World, only BETTER) - Witness for the Prosecution ...Yeah, a few good ones, without having to give in to mass group-think kiddie demands for 12 Angry Men and Some Like It Hot. (Uh, and she's already done Singin' in the Rain, right?)

Elliot Nesterman

I'd have gone with Royal Wedding over The Bandwagon, considering the upcoming coronation. Though of Astaire's 50s films my favorite is probably Funny Face. Shame that Sweet Smell of Success didn't make the list. A great film-noir with a stellar score.

out of that list 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea would be my choice

WOW! You sound quite mean calling everyone "kiddie". Disrespectful to all other Patron's. "YEAH!" The other 130 Patron's should leave it all to you to pick film's, I guess?? I'm new, so someone enlighten me please.

If you look over the Reactor-verse, 12 Angry Men seems to be one of the “only” three.B&W movies fans will ask for and shove down every reactor’s throat, to a point where it gets suspicious: Ie., not because it’s good, but because it tapped into some socially avenging fantasy that Gen-Z kids wanted to use the movie to “prove”, which is just as disrespectful to the movie itself. If Dawn is going to ask for great 50’s let’s throw a little more variety into the mix first.

There is an apparent pattern that I’ve noticed as well for a while now of 12 Angry Men being the only classic golden age movie movie reaction channels ever react to. I don’t think it’s quite as nefarious as Eric states above. If it was due to social justice Gen Z affirming attitudes, than every reaction channel would also be watching To Kill a Mockingbird, which they are currently not. There is a pattern and rut movie reaction channels fall into where the channels only react to movies every other channel has already reacted to. As if it’s one of the safe, approved movie choices. Like these reaction channels are just following each other around in a circle sniffing each others buts. And 12 Angry Men is definitely the safe go-to choice of golden age Hollywood movies. Just as Tombstone is the safe go-to choice of westerns for all the reaction channels to watch. It is tiresome. There’s such a vast rich history of film going back over a hundred years and from all over the world. And yet all the movie reaction channels remain in lockstep watching only the same small handful of movies. I remember joking before that the younger movie reactors and their younger channel viewers must think that Predator is one of the most important, culturally significant films of the 20th century. LOL It is rare that you see a channel react to a movie that hasn’t already been reacted to a dozen times by other channels. That’s why I’m here and happy to support Dawn. Who else is watching The Adventures of Baron Munchausen? Who else is making it a point to watch all of the Man With no Name trilogy and not just skip to The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, because that’s the most famous one. Who else is making the effort to explore the films of John Ford Who else is watching the films of Charlie Chaplin and the Marx Brothers. Perhaps he was a bit brusk with his words, but I definitely understood the sentiment. And I felt no personal offense from them.

Uh, To Kill a Mockingbird DOES get some disingenuous requests from the woke-HS crowd. As does Imitation of Life (a look at 50's prejudice and racial identity!), and Charles Boyer and Ingrid Bergman in "Gaslight" (a true expose of what your boyfriend might be doing to YOU!) Even the early reactors who just watch short comedy scenes are usually first inducted into movies with "You have to watch Blazing Saddles...Not the whole movie, just the New Sheriff scene!"

Bartleby

People request all sorts of movies. But To Kill a Mockingbird, Imitation of Life, and Gaslight are not movies being reacted to in mass or significant numbers by the movie reaction channels. And woke messaging aside, To Kill a Mockingbird is a classic film. I would say it’s a more culturally significant film than 12 Angry Men. So why aren’t more channels reacting to it? Because it’s not one of the safe pre-approved choices of movies. As say Tombstone is. Is Tombstone a woke movie? There may be a the handful of bad actors who push for the more agenda driven requests. But honestly I think most of the people constantly asking for 12 Angry Men do so because it’s the only black and white movie they’ve seen other channels react to. Thus it’s the only black and white movie they can think of and feel comfortable asking for. Other than maybe Psycho. It’s the same reason I’ve seen comments on YouTube claiming Tombstone and Unforgiven are the two greatest westerns ever made. Are they saying this because they have extensive knowledge of the genre going back decades, have seen everything and decided those two are the very best the genre has to offer? Or are they saying that because those are the only two westerns they ever see reaction channels watch. Thus everything about the western genre begins and ends with Tombstone and Unforgiven for them.
