The disease joke you missed was, "Remember boys flys spread disease. So keep yours closed." A fly is a term for a zipper on a man's pants. I don't know if it's called that in the UK. The different countries would have different equipment, tanks, etc but the US also helped supply other allies and of course they might also use some captured enemy equipment and vehicles in certain circumstances. So yes their would be some overlap on tanks. The US uniform has (or did when I was in) an IR patch that will shine when viewed through night vision so you can more easily identify soldiers. It was usually covered though. If there is one thing I have found to be extremely accurate in this show from my own experience in Iraq is the prevalence of accidents and fratricide (shooting your own side). I remember several instances of Iraqi police shooting each other on accident, one of our seargents shooting himself in the foot with a shotgun on accident, another seargent accidentally shooting an at-4 (a rocket) and it hitting another guy in the face with the fin and burning him (it was close enough that it hadn't armed and thus didn't go off) and so many other stupid accidents and crazy luck. It's amazing how often those things happen. This show captures that reality very well. The only thing worse than fighting a war is losing a war. I love this show.

two other military movies to put on your list; "The longest day" staring Henry Fonda John Wayne Robert Mitcham Many top actors of their day telling story obut D-Day "day of days" The other one is an HBO movie staring Kevan Beacon called "Taking Chance" this one you may want to watch it offline, very moving.

Dawn, you will likely get inundated with this info but Blithe didn’t actually die of the wounds as the show advised. Blithe went on and served in Korea but died in 1967 in Germany from a perforated ulcer, while on active duty having never retired from the military. His family apparently called into HBO after the show aired to let them know (I think some versions of the show now include a correction to acknowledge this) and every reaction to the series will have people point out what was unfortunately and unintentionally inaccurate. They get it right for the most part, and every interview/panel I’ve watched with the cast and crew relays the true passion and commitment everyone had to get it right and to honor these men.

a powerful part of this series is showing how instant, sudden and without warning, death and devastating injury is in the reality of war. My grand went though the while want from the start and saw his share of battle. I remember him sating, mortars held a particular dread, as he put it "you could hear them but they can come down anywhere"
