(Sorry, I had to repost this as I forgot to select the multiple choice option).

Billy Wilder has come out on top with a resounding 57% of the votes! Now it's time to decide the three films I'll react to 😄 Remember, you can vote for as many as you like. The winning movies will be announced on Tuesday 27th June! Let me know in the comments more directors and I'll add them to the list I've got already!

Roger Freeman

My favorite directors are John Ford, Alfred Hitchcock and John Huston

Bill W

Alan Parker: Midnight Express (1978) Fame (1980) Pink Floyd- The Wall (1982) Angel Heart (1987) Mississippi Burning (1988) The Commitments (1991) Angela's Ashes (1999)

Clayton Johnson

Now I know why I didn't recognize the director, I haven't seen any of these movies and only heard of a couple of them.

N M

When are you going to watch the next Indiana Jones film? Looking forward to that!

Roger Freeman

I forgot Spielberg. He has more that I don't think you have seen

Mike McLaughlin

Nominate Michael Curtiz. He directed 5 of my favorites. Casablanca (1942), The Adventures Of Robin Hood (1938), Yankee Doodle Dandy(1942), White Christmas (1954), Kid Creole (1958), The Comancheros (1961), Mildred Pierce (1945), Santa Fe Trail (1940), The Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn (1960)

Allen Bond

Robert Altman: Nashville (1975) M*A*S*H (1970) The Player (1992) McCabe & Mrs. Miller (1971) The Long Goodbye (1973) Gosford Park (2001) Short Cuts (1993)

As someone whose love for the Marx Brothers matches mine, you have to see "Some Like It Hot."

Essential Directors for future polls Oliver Stone Brian De Palma John Waters Ridley Scott Tony Scott David Cronenberg Stanley Kubrick Tim Burton Guillermo del Toro Akira Kurosawa Federico Fellini John Carpenter Martin Scorsese François Truffaut John Woo Orson Welles Wong Kar Wai Ang Lee Cameron Crowe Sam Peckinpah Wes Anderson Takashi Miike Luc Besson Darren Aronofsky Sam Raimi The Coen Brothers Ralph Bakshi Robert Rodriguez Dario Argento Frances Ford Coppola Paul Thomas Anderson

Jon Anderson

I feel he's a bit underrated, but one of my favourites is Brian De Palma.

Bill W

Multiple choice doesn't seem to be working. I only get 1 choice.

Elliot Nesterman

When I was a kid "The Lost Weekend" played on TV pretty regularly, yearly anyway. I suspect younger generations have not been exposed to this excellent film noir, which accounts for its low vote.

Louis Marzullo

Hal Ashby, Roman Polanski (I know, I know), Kathryn Bigelow, Carol Reed, Vittorio da Sica, Jean-Luc Godard, Jean Renoir. I think Sam got the rest🤣... No, I'll think of some more🤔

Louis Marzullo

Oh! Frank Capra!! That didn't take long!😁 And Sidney Lumet

Ted Little

Any list of directors that does not include John Ford, Michael Curtiz, Alfred Hitchcock, Cecil B. DeMille, Victor Fleming, William Wellman, and George Cukor misses the truly great.

Eric Janssen

Some Like It Hot has the Reactor-verse viral-copycat word of mouth—half for the end punchline, and half for a humor-illiterate generation just discovering screwball comedy—but The Seven Year Itch is gloriously irresponsible. Even if you know the famous shot of Marilyn Monroe’s dress malfunction on the subway grate, the movie itself is a snarky sendup of toxic 50’s sexism, with our hero battling evil (and crazy) thoughts about the temptations of cute neighbor Marilyn…And she couldn’t be cuter than this one. 😊 Stalag 17 was the dramedy that inspired TV’s “Hogan’s Heroes”, and Witness For the Prosecution is Billy Wilder’s foray into Agatha Christie courtroom mystery, with the usual twists you never see coming.

Eric Janssen

I’ll second Curtiz, just because you could take almost ANY 40’s movie of his at random and hit a classic. But mostly to get Yankee Doodle Dandy in for next July 4, and get us off the danged Roland Emmerich movies for a change. 😛

Bartleby

You left out “Who Framed Roger Rabbit” Definitely one of Zemeckis’s top achievements.

Wayne Kryka

Stalag 17 & Witnesses For The Prosecution are 2 of my all-time favorite films. I believe Stalag 17 was the film debut of Peter Graves who starred as the airliner captain in AIRPLANE. It also features Sig Ruman who you’d recognize from many Marx Brothers films.

Dawn mentioned in her Live feed she is saving Back to the Future for October because of the date used in the movie, which is kind of a nice touch!

Retro Maven

I humbly submit the great Blake Edwards of The Pink Panther movies. He also directed such classics as Victor/Victoria (1982), 10 (1979), and of course, The Great Race (1965)

Bartleby

Eyes Wide Shut wouldn’t count for this. Stanley Kubrick will have bis day.

Roger Freeman

I forgot about Frank Capra! He directed 3 of my all time favorite movies

Richard Stokes

To pick out 5 directors I'd most like to see on the director list I'd say Stanley Kubrick David Lynch David Cronenberg Shane Meadows The Coen Brothers

Michael Hartsell

Very happy with the way this poll ended. I hope Dawn reacts to the top three, I would like for "Sunset Boulevard" wiggle its way in there.
