Let's start doing some random polls 😄 I'll start with a space themed one 🚀 It maybe isn't the most thorough list of space movies, so don't shout at me!

Let me know other random polls you'd like to see and movie suggestions for them 😁

Comments

Matthew Dunham

You need to to 2001 first then you can do all the other ones later. It just makes the most sense doing reactions videos.

Zack Gallardo

I voted based on what you would react to best.

Jimmy Walker

bogart poll? Hitchcock poll? John Ford poll?

Bartleby

When are you returning to the silent films of Charlie Chaplin Dawn Recommend you revisit him with his classic “The Gold Rush” (1925)

Gary Trousdale

Apollo 13 and The Martian are the best two on the list! Good to see that they’re in the lead.

Erik

Need a poll for submarine movies in the future.

THK

I would make it bigger, a sea poll, with movies like Against All Flags (1952) , Moby Dick (1956), 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (1954) , Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003- If you have not seen it) ,The Perfect Storm (2000), Crimson Tide (1995), or if you want more Russel Crowe - Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World (2003). just a few ideas. Others will probably think of some more.

Gary Mackley-Smith

I would watch 2001 first as it influenced many subsequent sci-fi movies. I would also have added Arrival to your poll.

Bartleby

Ever see “In the Heart of the Sea”? I thought it was phenomenal. No one even noticed that film exists though. It’s based on the true story that Herman Melville was inspired by to write Moby Dick. In the film at least, Melville interviews one of the survivors of the crew, recounting the tale.

Robert Lee

I would never dream of shouting at you.

Eric Janssen

2001 isn’t an EASY film, but it’s a recognizable classic and on an epic scale— And not just for pioneering another generation’s fascination with the Artsy-Fartsy Paint-Drying Cerebral/Mindbending Post-“Contact” Sci-Fi genre (eg. Arrival, Moon, Ad Astra, Interstellar), but for Stanley Kubrick’s own ironic take on the territory.

Jordan Love

2001 is a must see, but I kind of liked 2010 better. One of those things where you know one is a better film but the other is just more enjoyable. As for Kubrick films I'd love to see you try Dr. Strangelove again. Even if it's not technically a 1st time reaction anymore I think it would be worth watching, especially when you're in the mood for it and kinda know what to expect. That's one that gets funnier with every rewatch.

THK

Haven´t seen it sadly. Have only seen what Chris Hemsworth have done to his body for that movie. Also made a big faux pa in my list. i forgot: Mutiny on the Bounty (1962)

Retro Maven

I believe DM would like Gravity and Apollo 13 the best🙄

Bartleby

Right. With the great Charles Laughton. And another more recent one that came to mind. “Life of Pi” from 2012, based on the novel. About the boy lost at sea in a lifeboat with a tiger. And then there’s also this 25 minute animated short. “Tales of the Black Freighter” This is related to the graphic novel and film “Watchmen” This short can be viewed and enjoyed on its own though. This is a hell of a sea story of there ever was one! https://youtu.be/jgDUidO8rzI?si=qULIasqZo3IKIrad

Elliot Nesterman

How about "Captain Blood" (1935) One of Errol Flynn's best; "Captains Courageous" (1937) Fine performance by Spencer Tracy; "Captain Horatio Hornblower (1951) as I don't think Dawn's yet met Gregory Peck. Although, the "Hornblower" series of TV movies starring Ioan Gruffudd as Horatio Hornblower are all excellent adaptations of the novels and superior to the Hollywood film.

Elliot Nesterman

The '62 Mutiny on the Bounty is with Trevor Howard and Marlon Brando. The Laughton and Gable one is from '35.

Elliot Nesterman

"2001" is an unforgettable cinematic experience, although it can be quite hard to follow. At the same time as it was being filmed Clarke was working on the novel to flesh out the details and clarify the ending. The book and the film appeared within a few months of each other.

Bartleby

Oh right. I think I’ve only seen the one with Laughton and Gable. And no one’s mentioned “The Abyss” Maybe because this post is about space movies and not sea movies LOL This is what’s known as a tangent

Michael Hartsell

Sports poll: Good sports movies are super exciting, and excitement makes for a better reaction most of the time. Here's just a few: Rocky's I & ll The Bad News Bears Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby Remember the Titans Cinderella Man Ford vs Ferrari Caddyshack Seabiscuit

MertzRocks

Francis Ford CoPOLLa ?? ;P (I know I spelled it wrong. I'll let myself out...)

Bill W

These would probably have to be Patreon exclusives because of copyright issues. (also- not meant to be comprehensive lists, just movies I liked) MUSIC THEMED FILMS: The Commitments (1991) Songcatcher (2000) The Blues Brothers (1980) Saturday Night Fever (1977) True Stories (1986) Purple Rain (1984) That Thing You Do (1996) A Hard Day's Night (1964) High Fidelity (2000) Empire Records (1995) Honkytonk Man (1982) School Of Rock (2003) The Harder They Come (1972) The Boys from County Clare (2003) This Is Spinal Tap (1984) A Mighty Wind (2003) O Brother, Where Art Thou? Louis Marzullo

"2010: The Year We Make Contact". The full title'll grab Dawn! But watch 2001 first, naturally👽

Louis Marzullo

Films set in New York City in the 60's & 70's: Midnight Cowboy, The French Connection, Serpico, Manhattan, Saturday Night Fever, Marathon Man, Taxi Driver, Mean Streets, A Bronx Tale, Rosemary's Baby, Dog Day Afternoon, Carnal Knowledge, The Taking of Pelham 123 (that last one courtesy of Eric Janssen)

Eric Janssen

Keep it just to the glorious Nixon//Ford/Beame 70’s, and how could you even FORGET The Taking of Pelham 123??

Louis Marzullo

Temporary insanity? At least you didn't tell me to DROP DEAD! 🤣 I'll ex-communicate "Pope" because it's an 80's flick & insert "Pelham" to keep it a baker's dozen. Dawn can decide how many to poll if she fancies the theme. Fair?

Louis Marzullo

How about injecting some more color into the proceedings? A Raisin in the Sun (S. Poitier version), Guess Who's Coming to Dinner? (DEFINITELY S. Poitier version), The Color Purple, Glory, BlacKKKlansman, Enter the Dragon, Captain Phillips, Hotel Rwanda, Maria Full of Grace, Assault on Precinct 13 (1976), Slumdog Millionaire, Django Unchained, 12 Years a Slave, Green Book, Training Day, Get Out, 42, Black Panther, Doubt, Hidden Figures

Michael Hartsell

Diversity, equity and inclusion is the dumbest idea I've seen on here yet. Leave your liberal ass politics at hell's gate loser.

Bill W

Raisin, Purple, Glory, Dragon, Phillips, Rwanda, and 12 Years ..all great films. Didn't care for Django. The other's I haven't seen. You could do a whole poll on Poitier. I also liked him in Lillies of the Field, Pressure Point and In The Heat of the Night.

Louis Marzullo

Think Dawn might enjoy To Sir, With Love also. The feels & all that ☺️📚📓✏️. Heat & Lillies, definitely 👍. Pressure Point haven't seen but very intrigued. Great title

Alan Jones

How about a Grace Kelly poll? She only made 11 feature films before she married into royalty and left Hollywood. You've seen and reacted to some of these already, but her entire filmography before becoming Princess Grace was: Fourteen Hours (1951) High Noon (1952) Mogambo (1953) Dial M for Murder (1954) Rear Window (1954) The Country Girl (1954) Green Fire (1954) The Bridges at Toko-Ri (1954) To Catch a Thief (1955) The Swan (1956) High Society (1956) Some of these are missable. She only appears in a brief subplot in Fourteen Hours, but the film is pretty good for what it is. Green Fire is not as good a film, but looks pretty good. On the other hand, some of these are well worth it: The Country Girl is her Oscar-winning performance as the wife of an alcoholic has-been singer making a comeback. The Bridges at Toko-Ri is a war movie, more about William Holden's character, but a good solid outing for Kelly nonetheless. To Catch a Thief is her third (and final) Hitchcock film, after Dial M for Murder and Rear Window, and we see her in the Mediterranean Coast setting where she would soon make her home (not far from Monaco). The Swan gives her the chance to portray a royal princess, which she would become by marriage soon afterwards. And High Society is a musical and comic treat, which sends her off into her royal marriage in fine style, complete with a Gold Record winning hit duet with Bing Crosby. Anyway, my two cents.

Louis Marzullo

Have seen & loved most of these. Did not know about Leadbelly. Now that's exciting. After all, he's our favorite performer, right? All of us like him the best? (R.I.P., Kurt)

Simon

These threads are problematic… I was replying to the idiot.

Louis Marzullo

Mogambo. Haven't seen it but wasn't Ava Gardner in that, too? Wonder how they got along. Grace was probably a peach but Ava didn't look like the type to tolerate another beauty in her space (especially a blonde)🧨

Bill W

I'm guessing that's an "unplugged" reference? Leadbelly stars "T.C" from Magnum P.I.

Louis Marzullo

YES, well done! Ah, Roger E. Moseley. Yeah, I can see that. Big as he is, not sure he could have pulled off Howlin' Wolf, though. Now Michael Clarke Duncan on the other hand... but we'll never know☹️

Bill W

Eamonn Walker did a fine job as Howlin' Wolf and, although not quite as tall, he had a much stronger resemblance than Michael Clarke Duncan.

Michael Hartsell

I assume I am the idiot in question. So, both Louis and you are admitted racist promoting discrimination based on race. Now about being an idiot, what the fuck do know you communist piece of shit. I'm ready Simon, bring it.

Simon

Since Apollo 13 won, and anticipating your usual questions... Yes, it really happened. Enjoy.

Louis Marzullo

You know what makes you such an idiot, Mike? That you actually think you can gaslight intelligent, educated people with your ass-backwards, moronic arguments. Discrimination EXCLUDES certain individuals or groups. The request for more quality films focused on people of color and/or other cultures is about INCLUSION. Nobody gets left out, as long as the movie is worthwhile, which can be voted on. We all know who the racist is here, Mike. Go look up the meaning of "projection", you piece of shit

Michael Hartsell

Louis I have not bothered any of the intelligent well educated people on this site, just you. Now get the last word in and I’m gonna move on. I’m sick and tired of white people being discriminated against in this country and they are you were doing the same damn thing. I do not think you meant to, but you did.

Louis Marzullo

Lmao, Bingo! Busted, by your own words! Enjoy your last few hate-filled years on Earth, you miserable bastard. And many thanks for that spectacular "self-own". Made my day! Now crawl back into your cheap bottle of booze, creep. Judging by all the grammatical errors in your posts, that's where you spend most of your time
