If I was an astronaut and went to the moon, I would leave a McDonalds burger and not tell anyone, so as to confuse future moon explorers, since we all know McDonalds burgers last forever 🍔

I think this is Ron Howards BEST work,,, It's really a flawless film that never gets old no matter how many times you watch it..

timeless_realm

Looking forward to your awesome review!

resinmonkey .

I was 15yo when they landed on the moon. It was late at night in the US but my parents let me stay up late to watch. The TV picture from the moon was a little worse than in this movie. I was 16yo in 1970 when Apollo 13 happened and it was just as much a miracle as it was shown in the movie. The entire world was praying for these astronauts. It was a truly remarkable time to be alive. Btw, you have more computer power in your phone than they had at that time.

The rocket launch sequence on the big screen with surround sound in the movie theatre was awesome.

I'm guessing the actress from Grease you're thinking of is Didi Conn who played Pink Lady Frenchie. That's not her. Kinda looks and sounds like her though. Also... the guy that you know from adverts is Kevin Bacon. By some crazy set of circumstances this is the first movie you reacted to with him in it. He's been in many films since the late 70s, So many that there is a trivia game called "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon" where you try to link him to any other actor in six steps or less, based on who he has co-starred with. ("Six degrees of separation" is a concept that posits that any two people on Earth are six or fewer acquaintance links apart.) Bacon has been in several films with ensemble casts (Apollo 13, A Few Good Men, Flatliners, JFK, Sleepers, Mystic River... which comes in handy when playing the game.) I'd suggest a Kevin Bacon poll except he doesn't have many lead roles. And most of the lead roles he's had aren't his best movies.

To get around the jargon, Randal Monroe did a poster. Search for “xkcd 1133 up goer five”. There was some drama added to spice up the script and some things compressed, but it’s incredibly accurate. As to whether they learned lessons, it’s complicated. NASA has some of the brightest people on the planet, but they operate with a fraction of the budget for manned space flight than they did during the space race in the 50s and 60s. This led to two shuttles lost with 14 Astronauts, and until recently no manned launch capability. NASA made plans to return to the moon years ago, but the programs were delayed, the cancelled, then redesigned, then delayed etc. Artemis 1 launched successfully last year and orbited the moon unmanned. The first manned mission is scheduled for next year, and the landing the year after that. The technology is a combination of this Apollo launch system, and the shuttle’s engines, but with modern engineering and compute resources. In the 60 the Soviets launched rockets until they (sometimes) stopped exploding. Some things have definitely changed.

DM, Neil Armstrong was the first to walk on the moon, and Buzz Aldrin was the 2nd. And YES, it really did happen. Please give no credence to idiotic conspiracy theories. The movie stays true to the facts, director Ron Howard had too much respect for NASA and the individuals involved to do any less. Great job as always.

I think I'm more than six acquaintance links away from Kevin Bacon... or from Dawn... or from you... lol My favorite Kevin Bacon movie is his very first movie ever... Not a starring role but kind of memorable. *wincing* "Thank you sir, may I have another?" lol

This film was directed by Ron Howard. The same director who directed A Beautiful Mind. Watch one more Ron Howard film and you’ve done an unofficial Director’s Cut series.

Bartleby

I recommend Ron Howard’s “Rush” from 2013 Also based on a true story as Apollo 13 and A Beautiful Mind was

Bill W

Is that your favorite Kevin Bacon role? Or just your favorite movie that he appeared in?

Pat Cecil

YES the moon landings are 100% REALl!

Pat Cecil

I am not quite old enough to remember the first landing of Apollo 11, but I do remember being glued to the coverage of 17 on our B+W telly. It was amazing

Pat Cecil

this depection is as accurate as they could fit into the length of the film. . The coil was a heating eleement to "stir" the oxgen in the tank that would freez otherwise

Bill W

I hope you do some more Ron Howard films... Gung Ho (1986) Backdraft (1991) Ransom (1996) Cinderella Man (2005)

Great vid Ms. Dawn .. .. Wanna talk about wild? A friend of my cousin is a NASA Astronaut and is one of the finalists for the future Mars missions and he told my cousin that one of the warnings in that contract was the expectation of contracting cancer/or dying during the mission is over 50% .. .. And like all explorers, he still signed on to go!!
