You will need your own copy of the movie to watch along! 😁

How did they manage to pull this off in 1933!? There are movies being made today that can't get it right 🤦🏼‍♀️

Great choice! Thank you!👍👌

Thanks for playing something I could watch this month besides Back to the Future. I remember seeing this at the Red Shield Boys Club back in the 60's and I liked it, so let's check it out again with Dawn.

you need to offer the movie link to download .... how else ? ..

Una O’Connor, the woman who ran the inn and screamed a lot. You said you’d seen her before, you have, she was in The Bride of Frankenstein (1935). The sequels, The Invisible Man Returns (1940) and The Invisible Woman (1940) are both worth seeing. If you continue this watching of Universal Monster movies, you’ll want to watch Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein (1948), but first you’ll need to see Dracula (1931) and The Wolf Man (1941).

Robert Inman

This was based on the H.G. Wells novel of the same name. Many of the "invisible" techniques they used in this film were repeated for years in other productions, and a lot of the challenges of being invisible carried forward too - including appearing naked suddenly in a crowd :) think Fantastic Four for example.

Michael Hartsell

The man you finally recognized at the end was also Clarence the guardian angel in "It's a Wonderful Life"

Alan Jones

Wonderful reaction, Dawn. Thank you for featuring this film. Others have mentioned a couple of familiar faces: Una O'Connor (the screaming landlady), also in Bride of Frankenstein; and Henry Travers (Dr. Cranley), who played Clarence the angel in It's a Wonderful Life. Claude Rains (the Invisible Jack Griffin himself) is probably best known from Casablanca, in which he played Louis, the lecherous police inspector with a razor-edged wit and, in the end, a heart of gold. He not very recognizable in this film, though, since we only see his face at the very end of the film when the invisibility wears off. Gloria Stuart (Flora) may be best known to present day audiences as the senior-aged Rose in Titanic, i.e., the Kate Winslet character grown old. She's the one who drops the Heart of the Ocean into the sea over the wreckage site of the ship. Also seen in an early uncredited role is Walter Brennan (the man with the bicycle), who made a name for himself in supporting roles in John Ford westerns, among many other appearances. He was a household name in the 1950s-60s starring in the TV show The Real McCoys. (I'm not sure you've seen him on this site. Someone I've followed reacted to Rio Bravo in which he played Stumpy, a grizzled old codger, but I don't see that film in your previous posts.)

And complete the Frankenstein trilogy with "Son of Frankenstein". And then listen to "Frankenstein" the song by the New York Dolls 😁

Louis Marzullo

My brother-in-law Joe (RIP) was a human Dad-joke machine long before the term was coined. I happened to be standing in front of the TV once without realizing it, blocking his view, when he cracked this beauty: "Hey Lou, you're not Claude Rains! Get outta the way!!"

Louis Marzullo

"How did they manage to pull this off in 1933?" I can count on one hand the number of other reactors who appreciate something this old, with at least one finger left for the ones who don't 🖕

Simon

Oh that was so much fun. I hadn't seen it before and you're right it was technically brilliant. I really liked the thinking that went into the impact of being invisible. Thanks! Oh, was there a ghost? I was too busy watching the movie 🤣

john ruddick

If dawn has a fork don't fork with her lol

Ah yes "The sprinkler" was always my go to dance move too. At least Claude Rain's invisibility power worked when people were looking at him. lol

Bartleby

I thought you said you weren’t doing costumes this year? Best Invisible Man costume ever!!!

Elliot Nesterman

To show him disappearing when undressing or partly invisible when in only the shirt or the trousers Rains was under-dressed in close fitting black clothing and hood then filmed against a black backdrop. The negative of him was overlaid on the negative of the background. The background image would show through the black portions of the image of Rains, and a new composite image was printed.

There is a 2020 re-envisioning of "The Invisible Man" that is excellent. I wouldn't call it a remake because they put a whole new twist on the concept. Please watch it!

So glad you enjoyed this classic Universal film, DM.Now that you've polished off this one and Frankenstein all you have left is Dracula, The Mummy, and my fave, the Wolfman!! You pointed out the music used which is so vital to convey the emotional tone of the scenes. There are many video that explain how they did the invisibility effect, here is one of them: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bfXptLC9Qcs&t=992s&ab_channel=ClassicClips
