Comments

Bartleby

The 8 episode anime mini series “Pluto”!!!!! The English dubbing is good for this too. You can enjoy this one in English. This series is tailor made for Detective Dawn! A science fiction murder mystery. On Netflix

Al

Special Ops: Lioness. Edge of the seat thriller.

Jimmy Walker

Lonesome Dove, rawhide, twilight zone

RX2904

The Bear. One of the best shows out right now.

JRCortez

Chernobyl, which I think is on HBO Max.

BDev

Mosquito Coast

Lisa Carey

Fleabag - 12 Episodes total, or Chernobyl

John Liebling

Celeste McAllister

'The Sopranos' 'True Blood' 'Lonesome Dove' 'Friends' 'Seinfeld' 'The Big Bang Theory' 'Gray's Anatomy' 'I Love Lucy' 'The Brady Bunch' ♡♡

Chicago Artist Jon

MIDNIGHT MASS on Netflix is kind of mystery horror that goes completely ape shit at the end. CATCH-22 on Hulu is a very good dark humored WWII bomber squadron series. It's based on an older movie which was based on a anti-war book. MASTERS OF THE AIR is on Apple. It's in the Band of Brothers family. It's OK, not quite as good as BoB.

John Liebling

My final list of Twilight Zone episodes: 1. Long Live Walter Jameson S1 Ep24, 2. Miniature S4 Ep8 Robert Duval - many years before he was in the Godfather and so many other great movies, 3. Stopover in Quiet Town S5 Ep22, 4. The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street S1 Ep22, 5. Come Wander with me S5 Ep34, 6. The Howling Man S2 Ep5, 7. Walking Distance S1 Ep5, 8. Escape Clause S1 Ep6, 9. Lateness of the Hour S2 Ep8, 10. The Invaders S2 Ep15, 11. 100 yards over the Rim S2 Ep23 (That is Uncle Ben from Spiderman) 12. The Silence S2 Ep25, 13. The Obsolete Man S2 Ep29, 14. The Masks S5 Ep26, 15. Queen of the Nile S5 Ep24. Can't go wrong with any of these episodes. All are a great watch, and plenty of opportunity for special Dawn reactions.

Dean J

Twin Peaks

Pat Cecil

Breaking bad, The Sopranos, Black Mirror :). Lot's of great suggestions above!

Mark Crawford

Homecoming has only 2 series (17 episodes total) and it is absolutely brilliant. You would love it, I'm sure!

Gene Hendricks

Star Blazers 2199 (aka Space Battleship Yamato 2199). It's a 26 episode anime that updates the original Star Blazers/Space Battleship Yamato series from the 70's. It's my all time favorite anime (having replaced the original that I grew up with). There's a lot there that I think you'll like (it's not all boy stuff) with some real tear-jerking moments.

Jimmy

Peaky Blinders, although be warned in the 5th series there is a god-awful Scottish accent attempt.

alonso torres

Netflix nine episode animated masterpiece Arcane would be a fun watch.

Bill W

"Derry Girls"- comedy, high school girls growing up in Northern Ireland during the Troubles in the '90s. (19 half-hour episodes) "Kung Fu" - Chinese-American raised in a Shaolin Temple goes to America in 1873 and travels the Old West looking for his half-brother, encountering strangers and trouble along the way. (First season is 15 half-hour episodes. Starring David Carradine- aka Kill Bill). "Seinfeld" (Season 5 - 22 half-hour episodes)

Louis Marzullo

What would be your ideal range for number of episodes, Dawn?... The Larry Sanders Show, Deadwood, The Shield, the original Twilight Zone, Malcolm in the Middle, The Abbott & Costello Show (which was the main inspiration for Seinfeld). I think half-a-dozen good for now 😁 Ahh, just one more for lucky 7- Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown

George Roybal

Firefly 14 episodes and a movie ending. Haven't ever seen a reactor who didn't love it.

Bill W

I 2nd Seinfeld. I don't suppose Dawn will do the entire series so I suggest Season 5.

Bill W

Dawn already did Firefly and Serenity. See all the memorabilia on her shelves?

Darrell Palmer

Lonesome Dove — It's only six episodes, it's a western and it stars a lot of actors from movies you've enjoyed. We're talking about a TV mini-series that was so good, academy award winning actors were lining up to be a part of it.

Dan Cornyn

Lonesome Dove is the best western ever.

Robert Inman

The slightly irreverent Lucifer series is fun, but runs 6 seasons beginning to end.

Jordan Love

The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr.

Nathan Wolff

I would suggest watching the 10 best episodes of the Twilight Zone according to imdb. They are as follows: Eye of the Beholder (1960), Nightmare at 20,000 Feet (1963), To Serve Man (1962), The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street (1960), Time Enough at Last (1959), Living Doll (1963), Will the Real Martian Please Stand Up? (1961), It's a Good Life (1961), The Masks (1964), and The Obsolete Man (1961)

Joe Lazarus

Breaking Bad, The Sopranos

Jason Hardman

Breaking Bad, The Sopranos, Curb Your Enthusiasm

Castanea

I think you might like "The Expanse" because you like mysteries and trying to predict where the plot is headed it also has a big fanbase that would likely flock to your reactions. It's a lot of information in the first couple episodes but then it gets into a good flow

Michael Hartsell

"Lonesome Dove" 4 part western mini series "Dexter" America's favorite serial killer 8 full seasons.

Ashley

Holy shit I was literally going to say that. That show is amazing. Bruce Campbell solving x files style mysteries in the wild west.

Mannygogou

Jessica Jones (Private Investigator) - season 1 This season can be watched by itself and is really good television 🙂

Mannygogou

You like Rick & Morty so... is there a season that you haven't watched yet?

Eric Janssen

We're still waiting for a reactor to discover Twin Peaks, one of the true historic ICONS (back when we still used the word correctly) of 90's TV, and the show that invented artsy/pretentious binge-serial series. Although for sheer DM "Ohh, I love him so much, I don't want this series to end!" value, there's a plethora of Columbo mysteries from the golden 70's available on streaming...For those who only know Peter Falk as the grandpa from "Princess Bride". (And once we get them hooked on a 70's show, you know Ralphie's dad in "Kolchak: the Night Stalker" will be next. Even though it won no major awards.) As for anime, the same headbangers who browbeat you to watch Akira will probably bully you into watching Cowboy Bebop--And it's a good short series with stylistic noir-cool, just so long as you know that comedy and fantasy series DO also exist in anime. For ex., I've always wondered how "Ranma 1/2" would play in today's rather, ahem, skewed cartoon fandom...

Mannygogou

Elementary - a show about a "consulting detective" originally from London moved to New York. He needs a "sober companion" and is matched up with Joan Watson, former doctor. He's called in to help solve crimes...

Tim Boxall

The Orville. If you want some shortlived (this easy to watch) home grown comedy, Black Books or Spaced. Also on the home grown front, Peep Show.

Mannygogou

Here's an animated comedy I like. "Star Trek Lower Decks" Short episodes and there's not a lot of them. It's about the support crew living in the lower decks of a starship, almost like janitorial staff and their zany adventures. They sleep in the hallway. Their starship itself is a support class usually unnoticed by the larger more important starships. This reminds me of Fawlty Towers and their staff and the zany adventures that goes on in there lol

David Patterson

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (1981) British comedy. 6 episodes. Half hour each.

JL Green

I would absolutely love you forever if you began viewing Warrior which was on Max, but began this week on Netflix!!!! The series is based on the writings of Bruce Lee!!!!

john ruddick

Bottom is a must see as is The Pacific since you have a copy of that now 😁.

Jordan Love

Has she watched Doctor Who? I suppose everyone in Scotland is legally required to watch the David Tennant episodes at least.

Ragnar Miersch

I cannot believe you have gone this long without watching Firefly. It is a staple of almost every reactor on YT. Apart from that it has everything you enjoy in a show. It is a brief (one season and a follow-up movie), often hilarious space-western. Trust me Miss Dawn, you and the crew of Serenity will be instantly compatible.

Retro Maven

How about Police Squad! the TV show that started the Naked Gun franchise. It's only 6 episodes so you won't be tied up with any long running series like some of these others. Plus we all like to see you reacting to comedy. 🤣

Chicago Artist Jon

I’m genuinely surprised at the HEEPS of variety here. Gonna be a tuff pick.

timeless_realm

I’d like to see your reaction to Idiocracy

Ragnar Miersch

You know, I thought so, but I did a cursory search of the archives and did not find anything. Granted, it wasn't a deep dive. Thanks, John.

Ragnar Miersch

Thanks, I did and found out that I watched them and left likes. I was just a wee bit lazy out of the gate. At this point I just wish I had never commented in the first place.

Chris Adams

The Pacific and Masters of The Air.

Edward Olson

Severance from 2 years ago. 9 Episodes.

Louis Marzullo

You're fine! Being wrong is one of life's great pleasures. Gives other folks a chance to help you 🚨

john ruddick

Or you might enjoy something fresh like The witcher.

Edward Olson

One of the best shows... for me to poop on! (Also, it's neither a miniseries or a single season (aka "one off series) as she requested.

Edward Olson

Dawn: Fargo is multiple seasons/series but each season/series is a separate storyline with separate characters.

Edward Olson

She said "miniseries or one-off series so it's not a huge commitment." and you suggest long, multple-season shows?????

Edward Olson

Are you seriously suggesting that she watch the -- what? -- EIGHTH TV SERIES in the Star Trek franchise without having watched (I expect) ANY PREVIOUS STAR TREK?????

Bill W

Hard to keep track sometimes when so many reactors watch the same things.

Bill W

Louis, I have to say, that is one of the most unique perspectives I've ever heard. "Being wrong is one of life's great pleasures." Hmm.

Ron

I'd like to recommend some (in my opinion) great short-run, sci-fi shows with interesting mysteries: * Severance (2022; S1: 9 eps, S2 in production) * Devs (2020; 1 season only, 8 eps) * The Prisoner (1967; 1 season, 19 eps) Also, * 11.22.63 (2016; 8 eps)

Louis Marzullo

Rawhide- You're gonna drive poor Dawn out of her mind! He's shirtless alot in that, isn't he?

Louis Marzullo

She also said "ideally" & "whatever you fancy", not "twelve episode limit or I'll hate you forever"

Elliot Nesterman

The Prisoner was far ahead of it's time and has always been a favorite of mine. The pacing may be a bit slow for younger generations, though.

Elliot Nesterman

"Absolutely Fabulous" is a UK classic. Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley are genius together. And Jane Horrocks is, as usual, wonderful. There are 39 episodes, from 1992 to 2012 with a few years gap between the later seasons and specials. "Good Omens." Season one is great. Season two fell down a bit, IMHO, but still pretty funny.

Simon

Blackadder. It will give you your Young Ones high. (not that they're the same, just both very funny)

Bill W

Eric - finally someone uses "ironic" in the appropriate place.

Harry S

V: The Original Miniseries and V: The Final Battle, Only five Episodes. Available on Amazon. Firefly 2002 14 Episodes Star Trek: The Original Series - Fan Favorites, Only 10 Episodes, available on Amazon

Bill W

Yeah I've been wrong once or twice (this morning already), but the only time I find pleasure in it is when I've predicted the worst and it turns out not as bad. (notice I didn't say "it turns out GOOD", because that's way too optimistic 😀)

Bill W

Edward - If it gets chosen she can just do 1 season. There aren't very many single season shows or mini series to choose from.

Bill W

Looks like Sopranos, Breaking Bad and Lonesome Dove are leading number-wise. Most others only have 1 or 2 mentions.

Bill W

Haha. I saw one or two episodes of Sopranos back in the day. Mafia stuff isn't really my thing. Don't have cable, so I never got into Breaking Bad on it's original release... and frankly the amount of relentless buzz about it actually turned me off (as it does with most "binge-able" series). I was in HS when Lonesome Dove aired and not really into Westerns (or mini-series) at the time.

Edward Olson

@Bill W -- Except Dawn specifically asked for a miniseries or one off series (one off series means a single complete 1 season show) so only Lonesome Dove qualifies.

Edward Olson

V is too cheezy for a new viewer. Firefly she already did. Star Trek is 79 episodes across 3 seasons. She asked for a miniseries or one off series. She didn't ask for a selection of episodes from across multiple seasons.

Bartleby

@Bill W Breaking Bad is one of the greatest Television series of all time. Some of the most brilliant writing and acting ever to appear on television. You may be turned off by hype or buzz, but it’s silly to turn your back on one of the best pieces of television ever produced simply to be a contrarian.

Simon

Oh, you know the Netflix live action version of Cowboy Beebop was excellent. I think it's only 8 or 10 episodes, but I loved it and was very disappointed that it wasn't renewed.

Edward Olson

So since she qualified it you're going to ignore the point of the type of request?

Louis Marzullo

I think you're the one missing the point. Some people are focusing on the "mini-series" part of the statement, some on the "whatever you like" part, some on both. If Dawn decides she only wants to poll a batch of short series, she's got plenty to choose from.

Chicago Artist Jon

SEVERANCE from Apple is getting some mentions. That one is a mind blower. Best to go in cold on that one and let it unravel itself. Rewatched ep 1 and it’s pretty slow pace though. Most of any reaction is going to be What the Fck is happening?

Zack Gallardo

This show was way better than most gave it credit for. Some very deep subject matter and the dry humor was really funny.

Happy Hanukkah

I'll suggest what many consider the best "modern" comedy, the BBC sitcom Coupling. Often described as "like Friends, but funny." :-) (4 seasons totaling 28 episodes; last season can be skipped.)

Eric Janssen

The first season is its own thing, but by the second season, Blackadder is Fawlty Towers with a Young Ones cast (and Young Ones writer Ben Elton)…Best of both worlds.

Bill W

Letterkenny - first 2 seasons + St. Patrick's Day special (total 13 half-hour episodes)

Elliot Nesterman

There were many excellent Western TV series in the 50s and 60s. I'd recommend "The Rifleman" as particularly fine. It stars Chuck Connors as rancher Lucas McCain, a single father, and Johnny Crawford as his son Mark. While there are 168 episodes (1958-63) you certainly needn't watch all of them. Another significant Western is "Have Gun, Will Travel" (1957-63). It concerns a gunfighter/investigator for hire known only as "Paladin," played by Richard Boone. It was consistently one of the top rated series during its first four seasons.

Louis Marzullo

Hey Elliot, how about the one with Steve McQueen & his sawed-off shotgun, "Wanted: Dead or Alive"? I remember loving it in syndication as a wee lad. Does it match up to the others?

Bartleby

What the hell are you talking about?! Everyone hated that show It was one of the most reviled live action adaptations of anime and universally hated by the Cowboy Bebop fan base 😂

Eric Janssen

(Oh, how freakin’ OLD is that (Recommend R-rated to newbies” gag now, thirty years?? 🙄🤦‍♂️)

Eric Janssen

Richard Boone in HGWT was one of the FIRST Clint-esque badass Western heroes on TV, and one of the first intellectual/revisionist westerns. At the other end, there's James Garner's gentle spoof in "Maverick", although watching the 1988 Mel Gibson movie remake is a better warmup.

Jonathan Leak

Cobra Kai if you like the karate kid films

Jonathan Leak

Or an old one called Quantum Leap

John Liebling

If you want to watch a young Robin Williams - check out Mork and Mindy.

John Liebling

There are also plenty of good Star Trek episodes from the original series, the Next Generation, and Voyager. And if you go that route, you might want to watch some or all of the Star Trek movies. Six with the original crew #2, #4, and #6 are good, though you should also watch #3, to make #4 makes sense. The Next Generation gets 4 films though only the second one, "First Contact" is good. Then there is the Chris Pine rebooted films and they have three of those. Thor - makes a cameo in the first one as Chris Pine's dad. Which means there is a total of 13 possible films. Most fans would suggest #5 and #10 are big time stinko and #1, #7, #9 are not a stinko, but a mediocre film at best.

John Liebling

From the 60s you've got Get Smart.

John Liebling

Would Dawn like the cartoon the Flintstones?

John Liebling

Hill Street Blues - not a comedy but set the standard for Cop shows in the 80s

John Liebling

We all know how much Dawn loves comedies the following are good. 1. Married With Children, 2. Taxi - you get to see a Doc Brown before Back To the Future, 3. Moonlighting you get to see a young Bruce Willis - when he still had hair, and sadly all his marbles.

John Liebling

Soap was groundbreaking in the 70s.

John Liebling

Taxi - with a young Doc Brown, before Back to the Future. Married with Children holds up well. Moonlighting with a young Bruce Willis. And Hill Street Blues setting the standard for cop shows in the 80s.

John Liebling

From the 60s you've got the Monkees, Get Smart, and Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In.

John Liebling

If you want to look at Los Angeles in the 50s and 60s you've got Dragnet. And the TV western which was the first TV show to broadcast in color, that would be Bonanza. - on the air from 1959-1973.

John Liebling

I also think Dawn would get a kick out of I Love Lucy - they were the top-rated comedy throughout the entire 50s.

John Liebling

Can't go wrong with Home Improvement and Everybody Loves Raymond. Dawn if you look closely at the grandpa on Everybody Loves Raymond, you'll recognize the monster from Young Frankenstein.

Eric Janssen

How about one of the coolest shows ever made, “The Avengers”? No, not THOSE, the late-60’s British spy-cool of Mr. Steed & Mrs. Peel…

Castanea

Edward: you know if you harass everyone who plies on here, you will start to drive away people or make them not want to participate which cuts into her business. You may not realize this, but having a lot of people propose ideas improves engagement, which is the business model. So maybe stop mass-posting nitpicks

Louis Marzullo

John, watch her reaction to "Planes, Trains & Automobiles" for your answer. It's my all-time favorite Dawn Marie reaction 🦕

Michaela

As you loved The Young Ones - have you ever watched Bottom? It was a 90s sitcom written by and starring Rik Mayall and Adrian Edmondson (Rick and Vyvyan from TYO), had all the bonkers violence/slapstick from TYO (but even better IMO) and was absolutely hilarious! If you haven’t seen it then you MUST! 😄 Plus it’s SUCH a good show for reaction videos 😂 There were 3 series, so 18 episodes. If you need convincing, then there are lots of clips on YouTube!

john ruddick

I really don't like the Sopranos I found it more of a soap opera then anything else. But If that's what the masses want lol

Michaela

Bottom would also give Dawn a Young Ones high 😄 And it’s SO fun watching people’s reactions 😂

Louis Marzullo

That wasn't bad. The tongue went cleanly through the cheek but I think I could sit through it. And Uma is still Uma

Simon

yeah, the fan base were vocal. However, normal people didn't hate it. It has a 6.7 on IMDB which doesn't seem like "everyone hated" to me. I really liked it and was disappointed it was not renewed. I assume you didn't like it :)

Toc

I was going to suggest Severance! Only 9 episodes! My suggestion is to watch the whole season....THEN edit it because the first thing you want to do when you finish the last episode is to go back and rewatch it again, to see everything you missed! Season 2 will come out (hopefully) by the end of this year.

Toc

Ooooo, I won't lie, the idea of Dawn reacting to The Prisoner is too good not to upvote! (Or Severance!) (Alas I have not seen the other two shows you mentioned.)

Toc

If a reactor is going to do The Twilight Zone, that is completely the right approach. I always say work off a list of 20 greatest episodes (or 50, or 10, or whatever number you like. There are so many great ones and the top twenty will always be about the same, on any list) But going in chronological order is a slog! The idea of Dawn doing "Time Enough At Last" or "Nightmare At 20,000 Feet".....oh let me not even get started dreaming that dream!! :D

Toc

Lonesome Dove! Good choice! I'm not huge into westerns, but that is an excellent one. Only 4 episodes, fits the bill.

Ron

Devs: If you like a mind bending mystery which makes you question reality, this is your show. Showrunner also wrote/directed Ex Machina and Annihilation, and wrote 28 Days Later. 11.22.63: Based on Stephen King's novel. I won't say more

Knight Squirrel

If you haven't seen Sherlock with Benedict Cumberbatch, I highly suggest that one.

Dag Einar Bergli

I would love to watch you react to the british version of The Office and Extras. Both shows are only 2 short seasons. Extras is also written by and starring Ricky Gervais

Harry S

Tom Brown's Schooldays BBC 1971 - YouTube 5 episodes less than 4 hours long and free on youtube. Based on a novel written in 1857.

Harry S

lord of the flies movie 1963

Robert Nelson

OMG. Centennial, Roots, Shogun, or The Blue & The Gray. Ready, PLAY!

John Hagan

Sopranos, Voyager...Arthur (81)

Echo

Fallout! I know it’s new, but it’s pretty good. Little violent, I actually fast-forward through the fight scenes myself. 🥺 Only 8 episodes.

Patrick Crippen

Tiger King, an in depth examination of just how crazy and dumb America has become. Absolutely hilarious and insane

Korny

Sopranos or The Shield
