A BIG Upcoming - Chapter 1 (NEW LONG-TERM!!!) (Patreon)
Content
New story! This will involve time-traveling, a man creates a time-machine and where does he end up? Let´s just say the future´s female, and tall!
Hope you like this new story! I´ll be dropping two chapters per month, to replace the One-shots that were dropped here as fragments.
Enjoy ;D
Chapter 1
“Finally!” He said as he readjusted the final parameters on the machine.
Now, what machine? Simple, a time machine. This man´s trying to travel into the future. A good answer could be, why the future and not the past? How can the future even exist if it hasn’t happened yet?
Couldn´t it be easier to go back into somewhere, sometime, that has already been? Aren´t there particles in the air, paths we can´t see that can connect us to the past?
This man, the man who created the machine, he´s a genius. And he´s got a theory about time.
Think on time, not as an eternal lapse that goes over and over into infinity. Not as a long line where you´re at the middle and there´s ages behind and ages forward. Much more than ages, to be honest.
He´s got a theory, time, the whole thing, it´s like a movie. And it gets reset, and things start over and over.
Couldn´t that explain a déjà vu? What if what you feel that has already happened, did happen? What if you´re living a re-play of your life? What if time goes on and on, and when things end, they just start over?
Maybe they are not exactly the same, there could be changes. For example, reincarnation, an equal life begins, but not as it was before. Could that be one of the minor changes that don´t affect the long term of time?
And even if there where changes, could they be the reason for the multiverses? Where a decision, a change, minor or bigger, changes the course of time?
Even this man´s not entirely sure. But there´s one thing for sure, this machine will work!
Now, how did he figure out how to time-travel? Well, he hasn´t. Yet!
This is his very first attempt, but he´s got some solid proof. He´s got evidence that leads him to think he can time travel.
In the end, everything´s made up from particles. Matter just changes, it never gets destroyed. The tiny atoms, made up from protons, neutrons and electrons, they remain. It´s the rest that changes.
Like a shape, let´s say they change their shape, still, the atoms retain their existence.
His question is, what if you could fast-forward time like in the movies? For that, you only need the proper control, and he´s created one. The machine he´s looking at right now.
600-pounds of pure engineering. Not very stylish, sort of squared, but the design´s not the main thing, but the purpose. The main function.
To time travel, you need a channel, a void that connects two points of time. Like worm holes. Then, you just direct the machine to it, click on it, and you´re gone. That´s, basically, how this is supposed to go.
But, who´s this man? And why does he want to travel to the future?
His name´s Bernard, and he´s, as we´ve said, a genius.
His whole life he´s been able to understand things easily. No problem was too difficult, no matter too hard. In the end, he´ll come to find an answer.
Then, why not finding an answer to so much conflict?
He´s got his reasons to travel to the future. Based on his own logic, of course.
If we, at first, were all savages, killing in order to live, and then we evolved into current society, where we´ve become civilized, then, what could there be in the future?
There´s still conflict in this world, could there be a better one? Could there come a time where there´s no violence? No lies? No robbery? No hunger? Where people are actually united?
That´s his main goal, to find a better world.
If we´ve come so far, then, how far will people get in the future?
His mind was focused on that, and then, a question came to him. Can we actually time-travel? He´s about to find out…
“Ok, let´s set a date… how about… a hundredth years?” Could there be that much of a change? “No, two? Three? How about… five-hundredth?” this was a guess. If this works, he can go whenever he wants, but, what´s the right time?
He doesn´t hate society nowadays, but there could be some changes. Changes people won´t go for because they don´t often see things in a wider range.
Money´s always a reason, a cause, a purpose. Would there be a point when money´s not that important? When people actually care for the others? That´s what he´s looking for. To find a future where, or when, society has learned and they have improved.
To have success where there´s been failure. To take advantage of technology and work for a balance between innovation and our environment. To find peace.
Maybe he´s just a guy who fantasizes a lot, but that´s his goal. To find a society where things are good. Sincere, caring, sustainable.
“Let´s go for… the 30TH century…” He said. Maybe within a thousand years things will be better, right?
He programmed the parameters on the machine. Today´s date, as the initial point, and the year 3000, as his final destination. By default, January the first, year 3000. He was so nervous.
Bernard was a genius. He studied this over and over. Read and read articles of time traveling. Some were mere fiction, but there were still some ideas he could use. For starters, the fact that the vehicle he creates has to be comfortable. Maybe not a first-class sit, but certainly cushioning.
And he made sure to read all of the theories and information he could find. Most were speculations, but some parts on each article allowed him to have a better understanding of what this all implied.
He was worried, sure, what if he brought time to him and aged 1000 years in a few seconds? What if his parameters don´t end up where he wants? Or, what if he ends up teleporting himself into the middle of the ocean? Of course, if the machine doesn´t explode.
Bernard held his finger over the start button, but didn´t press it. He wondered, was this what he wants? Is this actually worth it?
As many others, who are smarter than average, he doesn´t feel like he fits. And the problems around trouble his mind. Why are things this way? Why can´t people just help each other? The answers are so simple, to him at least.
There´s a lot of giving in the human nature, unfortunately, there´s also plenty of taking. An imperfect balance. And his question is, could there be a future where good reign?
He´s about to find out. Time travel or not, he doesn´t have much to lose.
“Ok, here I go…” he clocked the button, and immediately heard the sound of the computer working.
Bringing data in, establishing the parameters. The engine starting, the sound of the machinery louder and louder. He can´t lie, for a second he thought everything was about to explode.
This was his very first trial, the machine can´t go back if there´s no passenger. And there´s no way to prove if things work if there´s no witness. Now, why didn´t he just programmed the machine to appear a week in the future?
So that it would “come back” within seven days? At the same place, same time. Or maybe not a week, a few minutes would´ve been enough.
Well, he´s a genius, but that doesn´t mean he thinks on every single detail. There´s a few things that escape his mind. And that´s often a practical answer for impractical questions.
But there´s no time to worry about that, right now, the only thing in his mind is the future!
He could feel the heat, the machine wasn´t overheating, but the constant work created an increasing heat on the time-machine. Suddenly, the whole thing began vibrating. And the vibrations became quicker and stronger.
“If this doesn´t explode, at least it´ll come apart in pieces…” he thought, but with his hopes still on the proper functioning of this machine.
Within a couple seconds, the machine started rising. Was it bouncing? Up and down with the intense vibrations? No, it was actually levitating!
He held still to his sit. Maybe he should´ve put a bar or something to get a hold into. A steering wheel could even give him some support, not that he needs one, the machine doesn’t move in any direction other than time.
And so, Bernard held still, with his eyes only on the price. Only on the future.
He was a bit worried, that can´t be denied. This was his very first trial, and he wasn´t even certain if he built this machine for such a heavy-duty. He felt as if he was inside a washing machine that had a brick inside, quacking other than vibrating, trembling, making such intense movements.
But then, he heard a beep, one that was meant to tell the beginning of the actual time travel. As soon as the machine had found a worm hole, it´ll pull them into it. And when it did, the sound he just heard was supposed to confirm that.
After this point, he wasn´t sure what would happen. The only difference would be time, not the place. He´d still be located here, well, where “here” currently is.
He was aware of the risks, so he bought a house, a small one, outside of the city. Far away, to ensure no one will be hurt. This place didn´t have much, but it was meant to work as some sort of “garage” for his experiments. And this, it was the greatest of all.
In fact, it was the only one he´s been working on for quite a while. Now, he´s 28-years-old. But when he started, he was barely 24. To make a time-machine in four years is quite an accomplishment.
Bernard wasn´t sure what to expect, however, what happened next was completely overwhelming.
Within the blink of an eye, his room disappeared. The room where the machine was couldn´t be seen. Instead, he could see colors, moving too fast to make out what it was. What they were. Too fast to even listen to a sound other than the one of the machine.
At first, the colors were similar, like the one painted on his wall, and probably a couple other blurs of metal, wood or some other things. But then, they changed.
Blue appeared above, and grey beneath. Those colors changed so fast, blue blinking, turning from bright blue into black. Then, the blue intensified and the grey was replaced by green. Suddenly, the shades of blue began to take a darker tone, and the shades of green began to turn yellow, and then brown.
He wondered if this could be the outside. Could it be the sky? And could it be the earth? What happened to the house? Did it fell apart?
The machine seemed to sped up as the colors shifted more rapidly. No more blue; no more brown. Suddenly, he began to see a whole lot of different colors. Cream, white, grey, and then, red. And for a long time, all he saw was red.
A red color with different intensities. Where was the blue? Where was the sky? Why was it all red? And right after that, he had a headache. Colors kept changing, but he couldn´t see it so clear. He closed his eyes, and struggled to keep them open.
Red, everything was red! And then dark! He could feel heat! But he wasn´t sure if it was the machine´s or the outside. The machine had no windows, it was more like a big box, with only a cover on the back.
As he struggled to watch, he could see how the red slowly began to turn orange, then yellow, and finally, blue again. The heat was descending as the colors changed. What had happened?
This “trip” took less than five minutes, and when it was finally over, he could see the blue sky and fields of grass.
Where was his house? More like, when?
He looked around, he could now listen to another sound as the machine went off. The sound of the blowing wind, and he could feel the breeze.
He stepped out to look around, he paid no attention to the feeling of his body, he was amazed by this. This place, if he wasn´t mistaken, was the future!
He looked behind, and couldn´t believe his eye. “Buildings?”
