Hey everyone!

We're getting settled back into the groove after EGLX (which was a crap ton of fun).

I wanted to share a video that I've been working on for quite some time. It's a video essay about one of my favorite novels, Dune, and one of my favorite games, Dune II.

We're not sure if this will be a regular series or if it will even live on the Continue? page.

Let us know what you think! Is this something you'd like to see more of? Right now you have the exclusive right to see this, we aren't sharing it with the rest of the subs yet. Do you think this fits on the Continue? channel, or should it get it's own channel?

Anyway, give us your thoughts! We're excited to hear what you think.

Dune II - Worlds Within Worlds

This video was made possible by the support of our Patrons! https://www.patreon.com/continueshow In the inaugural episode of Worlds Within Worlds, Paul argues that a book is responsible for the trajectory of the Real Time Strategy genre and the most popular video games in the world today. He explores how one of his favorite games, Dune II, created the family tree of Command & Conquer, Warcraft, StarCraft, World of Warcraft, and League of Legends. Worlds Within Worlds is a video essay show created by Paul Ritchey, Nick Murphy, and Forrest Lee. Oh man, I forgot you were such a big Dune fan. I love the Dune series, I can't wait to check this out!

Wow this is really really friggen good. Well done boys. Fascinating. So, I personally don’t think this would necessarily be at home in the regular continue channel. HOWEVER it so good there’s more than enough room for it in the continue realm. Really hope to see more things like this. Informative entertaining and well done. Thanks!!

Great video! You knocked it out of the park! I think if you guys put out more stuff like this it definitely would be best in a separate channel, but if your plan is to only do these occasionally then a Continue? channel special would be fine every once in a while. Also, though definitely not as influential, it's worth taking a look at the 1979 Avalon Hill Dune board game. It was pretty ahead of it's time featuring asymmetrical player factions and win conditions and combat that used hidden information and bluffing instead of dice-based randomization. After the movie came out, the game pretty much disappeared and copies are hard to come by today. It was re-released by Fantasy Flight a few years ago, although sadly they were unable to acquire the Dune license and had to re-skin it with their own IP. It's a fun game though and I imagine it would have been pretty revolutionary in the late 70s.

Thanks Christian! Good point, we'll probably make a new channel for future episodes. Definitely have some ideas for other episodes, so we;ll see! Just gotta get the resources together to make more.

Thanks Bob! What's the name of the new version of the Dune board game? That sounds fascinating! I think I'd love it.

Well, shit. Now I gotta read this book! Definitely want to see more like this. Informational and entertaining!

Making that infotainment baby! Do read the book - it's incredible. It's one where you need to be ready to read a bunch of words that you don't know the meaning off at first, but have faith that you'll eventually get it all through context clues and later explanation. I love it.

This is fantastic! It's great to see a novel and a game that I love getting the attention they deserve! Ya hya chouhada!! Long live the Continue fighters!!

My wifes copies of the original Dune series are so dog eared from reading them over and over she made her own replacement covers lol. We love the Dune series and are huge fans. What did you think of the Dune and Children of Dune series from the SciFi channel back in the early 2000's? Have you read the expanded novels by by Frank Herbert's son, Brian Herbert, and Kevin J Anderson? They are amazing.

This was fantastic.

I would still to this day love to see Alejandro Jodorowsky version of the original film.

Yo, I finally watched it, and knowing absolute zero about Dune prior I loved it. I would love to see more videos in this style. In regards to where to post them? Call me old fashioned but I see no reason to post them on anything but the main channel. Sure, its different than the typical Continue video but they'd obviously be less frequent so it wouldn't turn people who are there solely for Ye Olde Wednesday Continue? and anyone who's deeply invested in your work beyond that would probably sub to the other channel anyhow, but at that point why bother keeping it separated. Long comment short: Great work, I'd love to see more, I think it'd work on the main channel.

Medusa Ann Mizikow

Haven't heard from Lee since Arcadia disbanded, but I could pick that smooth sexy voice out from anywhere. Gotta head over and subscribe to Furst, cause I miss that boy. This was a fantastic watch I do hope to see more like it. I don't know where else to find a good cognitive piece interjected with lighthearted comedy and this fills that niche perfectly. It's smart. It's funny. And with that cinematic polish I could see this being a hit series if you wanted to go somewhere with it. Keep up the great work!

I like it. Not familiar with Dune at all but you made a good case for its influence.
