Genuinely, this is such a big surprise. There is a lot of complexity going on here. I can’t believe his man literally said, “Maybe it’ll give you some clarity”. I DIED inside when he said that, taking little jabs at poor sweet Souta. From Nao’s reaction from him not seeming outwardly jealous and even offering to help him get a girl I can only make one conclusion: Nao has accepted the fact that Souta is straight (at least in Nao’s eyes since he doesn’t know the truth), and has decided that no matter what he’d be happy as long as he got to be by Souta’s side, even if it’s not romantically. This isn’t a crush guys, Nao is full on in love with Souta and it’s so nice to see. Also, Souta, chop chop get to it bud. Not saying you have to confess but say fucking something and I’m not saying the, “It’s nothing or I don’t know what you’re talking about” bs. Also I just wanted to take a minute to dedicate this paragraph to Aina. I want to say thank you so much for the early update. I know that it must’ve taken a lot for you to release it early since in an earlier podcast I watched of you. You said that the reason you don’t do a lot of updates is because you do full time drawing and it takes you a while since you’ve never gotten professional drawing lessons. You said it takes you a while since sometimes you need to look for references for the correct perspectives you want to draw and what not. Sending this out early must’ve put a lot of stress on you since you work to have back ups in case something happens to you. Just know that we don’t take this for granted and are truly blessed and thankful that you gifted us with this early update. Thank you Aina❤️

Also, I love how, throughout the series, and especially in this update, Nao's expression can be read one of two ways, and it usually reveals more than what he actually says. Like in this 90 degree rotated frame, he's shown on the edge of his seat with an expression that could either be interpreted as expectant of trying to get the "good news" out of Souta; or he could be impatient/frustrated and, as he said, he just wants Souta to cut to the chase. He lets on more than usual here too, because Souta's head is turned, and he's focused on him. Probably the most revealing scene that he's had to date was when Souta first mentioned his fake crush on Inoue, and Nao suddenly turned went to the kitchen sink. Was the drop from the faucet, or was it Nao's tear? From the position of the faucet, I think it was a tear... BUT THEN was he crying because he was jealous of Souta or Inoue, or was it that he had history with Inoue and he was afraid things would get complicated? I love the tempo of this story, because the plot hooks get woven together; and sometimes, as one unravels, a new one appears. For example, even if Thursday is a confession, one has to wonder what Nao's reaction will be! Like maybe he'll get so angry that his attitude will do a total 180 and he'll pull out a sandwich and start eating it with no expression whatsoever.

I know this isn't going to be a popular comment (and maybe not the first saying this), but I'd like to give Aina a compliment here for a more realistic depiction of the situation so far than we all would love to see. What I mean by that is this: As much as readers look forward to them getting together, I can understand how the characters have gotten to this point. Yes, proper communication would've solved it before, but if you're looking for that, there are other stories out there somewhere where the characters communicate early on. In this story, you have two teenage boys. I repeat that: teenage boys. Realistically, for many teenagers, frank communication isn't their go-to in the first place. Then you have two boys in a somewhat conservative society (at least,I assume the world the comic is taking place in isn't completely and easily open-minded, given some of Souta's considerations earlier in the comic about weddings, etc.); same-sex relations aren't something they see everyday, meaning it's already not as much on everybody's radar all the time. Why doesn't Nao realize how Souta feels? Guys, think about it: Everybody in the comment section has read the story - they know Souta's thoughts, they understand why he's so distressed. For Nao, he's his best buddy (I'm not even sure, yet, Nao already truly understands just how deep his own feelings run, even though I think he knows he likes Souta). They've been hanging out like best friends do, not been going on romantic dates. They play sports together, they've talked about girls. Souta TOLD HIM he liked Inoue. Why wouldn't he think Souta might like Arashi? Of course, it's obvious for readers on the outside, but for the characters, they don't see what the other goes through internally or what they do at their homes away from each other. And aside from all that, they're teenagers, they're oblivious to a lot of things. How many here in the comment section can say they know about all their friends of the opposite sex who have a crush on them? Let alone friends of the same sex having a crush on them who haven't come out, yet? Remember, at this point in the story, Souta hasn't even come out to Nao. Why would Nao's first thought be that Souta likes him? For all Nao knows Souta is straight after he already admitted to liking a girl in the past. Does Nao lack self-esteem? Sure, somewhat. Again, what teenager really is happy with themselves? But is that the (only) reason he doesn't get that Souta likes him? I don't think so. Even more, I think that Nao - to some extent - understands that he likes Souta, and is twisting things in his head almost as much as Souta is doing that. From his perspective, it's just as unlikely that Souta likes him romantically as it is for Souta that Nao does like him. Also, let's not forget, time passes differently in the comic. They've had a lot less time to wrap their heads around some things. So, yes, I think communication is key - and maybe we'll see some of that, even if it's an angrily blurted, "I like YOU, you idiot!" (maybe, let's hope so, otherwise they might just start throwing frustrated punches at some point). But I also think Aina is doing a really good job to show the workings of some angsty teenagers' minds in a realistic way. And thanks for the bonus update ;) Okay, you all can now hate me^^

Okkk while I’m anticipating the next update I’ll share my predictions cause I can’t process that this is actually happening 🫣 Sooo, IF this is the half confession, I can see it going in 2 ways. Either Souta admits that the one he’s jealous of is Arashi or (the one I think is more likely) he confesses he doesn’t like girls. I believe the 1st one would come too close to the truth for comfort mayhaps. I don’t know if Souta will be able to explain that without giving away his feelings go beyond friendship—his face shows everything when he gets cornered (his expressions hurt me 😢) But since the later doesn’t necessarily involve Nao, it might help him to play off this whole situation as just him struggling with confronting this part of himself and how it doesn’t necessarily involve Arashi or Nao or anyone outside of himself. Buuuut that’s just my 2 cents! It could definitely go someway completely different. I just had to get something out or I’ll implode 😖 We truly are spoiled with this extra update, but maaan the next update can’t come soon enough (no rush it’s just THAT good 💕)
