When Souta said “it’s you, don’t you get it?” Nao assumed that Souta clocked that Nao likes him and that it’s a problem for Souta. 3. Current theory, maybe Nao thinks that Souta figured out he has a crush on him and that's why Souta shouted "it's you" + was acting weird and distant. Either that or Nao got his hopes up during the half confession and doesn't know how to approach Souta to clarify since there's a chance he had misinterpreted, then would have his own crush revealed, and would ruin the friendship

I have 2 theories as to what might be going on in Nao’s head : Either he is acting this way because Souta is he’s only real friend at the moment, and he might be scared of the eventuality of things changing between them and stuff, so he needs some time to think. Or, he is faced with some kind of internalized homophobia, because let’s not forget that the story takes place in Japan, which is not a very open country when it comes to lgbt+ subjects, so he might be having trouble accepting that he’s not straight and has feelings for his best friend. Or maybe it’s both. Anyway, I think his reactions for the moment don’t point to him misunderstanding but more like needing time to process and being slightly scared.

And let’s not forget they are just teenagers, who can and will make mistakes. They are not perfect and might not act the way we would like them to but that doesn’t mean they’re bad people or don’t deserve each other. We all make dumb decisions at this age and it’s fine. Also we are seeing things through Souta’s perspective so I think it’s important to try to see things from the other characters’ (Nao) perspective too in order to understand them better.

To me the most reasonable explanation is that Nao thinks Souta avoided him because he was uncomfortable with him flirting 😭 meanwhile, Souta never realized how down bad Nao is 🙃 from the last episodes it seems like Nao politely tries to give Souta space, but is sad and maybe scared of what Souta thinks. Don't know, but I think his reactions would be different if he interpreted the confession in any other way? On the other hand all the other theories are equally realistic...
