It’s interesting reading from the beginning again. This is how they used to talk to each other all the time, so this is the first time that something Nao says actually hurts Souta because now they mean something to each other (even if just friends). And seeing Nao realize that he just hurt Souta for real is rough.

I think Nao is angry because he doesn't want Souta to be sidelined, because Nao knows it makes him sad. So he's (VERY) awkwardly trying to encourage Souta to improve his skills, so he'll be brought back in the game. But because Nao doesn't have enough social skills, his concern came out wrong and hurt Souta really badly He's just trying to care in the best way he can, but it all went the worst way possible, and he hurt the very person he's trying to help 🥲
