hey. it’s a long post

you may’ve noticed i’ve been quieter these last few months. long story short, im under immense pressure irl. i’m typing this from my phone. i didn’t even have the energy to hop on my PC

when i started doro, i was going through a break up from a nearly decade-long relationship. i lived there. everything i had was there, my job was a 5 min walk from there. i had no savings, and absolutely no back-up plan

when we broke up, i couldn’t stay, i was embarrassed. i ended up having to move in with my sister, 30 minutes away from my old job

i was living in a corner in my sister’s room with my mom and cousin. all i had was my PC and a single basket of work clothes. i was on an LOA (leave of absence) from work bc i moved miles away from my old job, couldn’t afford the commute, and the store i planned to transfer to fell through

thankfully i eventually managed to get a job at a different store just 20 minutes away by bus. i loved that job. i was more inspired than ever to create, getting to the season 1 finale in record time. i was heartbroken and feeling abandoned and lost

i got my first youtube check and all that money went toward bus fare and buying new work shoes

then i was followed home from work (for the 2nd time in my life) since i was taking the bus every day. this person knew my name but i didn’t recognize them. fearing for my life i stopped taking the bus and was put on a program with Lyft and my job for rides

i suddenly became a hermit that would spend entire days and eventually weeks inside at my PC. this is when i launched Patreon

with my first patreon check i was able to pay rent and buy a new keyboard

i couldn’t wait to quit my job and never have to go outside and risk being followed again. and so i did just that, i stopped showing up

everything was super exciting, everyone was so kind and welcoming in my community and i felt safe. and i could run away from the scary outside world. i stopped going outside at all for weeks at a time, my blinds drawn so no one could see inside

i eventually unlearned how to be social. it’s been 3 years like this. most days the only socialization i have is on call with my friends. i’ve completely isolated myself. all the escape i used to get from being online has become reliance. i have a codependent relationship with my sims game and editing software. i’m terrified of eye contact. i’m anxious when people come over

i’ve been trying exposure therapy by going places, but i can’t do that at all without my siblings to accompany me

and worst of all, my sister lost her job a few months ago. i’ve been quiet because with that, all the life has been sucked from me like a deflated balloon. i pay all the bills now, alone

i’m alright

the issue now is the isolation. i can do it, sit in my chair and produce like i used to back in my doro days. but my relationship to production is so toxic. these last few months ive been trying to keep my mind in the right place

but i need to work hard now more than ever. you know me, i was a workaholic before i went full time. i was a workaholic before i was paying all the bills. now that there’s more necessity than ever, im afraid i’ll lose my mind. and in doing so, i might create the best piece of work i ever have so far. but what will it cost? who will i be on the other side

each new project since the season 1 finale of doro has resulted in me sobbing into my hands at some point during production. i’ll lock myself in my room and sit in front of my pc for 14 hrs most days

tl;dr my sister lost her job and the financial strain has put me in a state of total mental ruin. i’m working harder and losing my mind

all this to say i’ll see you very soon with something really cool

i can’t thank you enough for your support. you have all my gratitude.

Hi Kureha, I’ve been watching you for a while on YouTube. I’m a 28yr old still figuring it out too. I know that the world can be a terrifying place and it seems now more than ever that there is so much at stake and to loose. I don’t want to over step but I see you. I’m sorry for what you’ve been through and the trauma and fear that’s put in your life, and I know that the past three years and probably more have been so hard on you. A lesson I’ve had to learn, is that rest is truly the only medicine. Rest doesn’t mean laying down, although that can help, it means creating for yourself moments of sanctuary and joy no matter how small or short. When you rest you give your mind a moment to lay down the load and focus your energy outside of your troubles. It dosent mean ignoring them, its changing the surrounding in which you grow and giving your brain a positive position to process your experiences from. Healing is never linear. For me, when I went through a deeply traumatic experience my rest looked like starting a small planter garden on my apartment porch with dollar store seeds because nature gave me relief and something to care for, something I didn’t need feel pressure to succeed at. Sometimes when I couldn’t find the energy with all the emotions I was carrying I just sat in my rocking chair looking at nature, and allowed my self to cry and a good cry for all I had lost. My sense of safety, my sense of self, my best friend and greatest confidant, as well as my dog. Watching my flowers grow often gave me something to talk to outside of myself about my pain, when I couldn’t afford therapy, and the pressure my life outside of that tiny porch held. And when they bloomed and became bright beautiful flowers, seeing the butterfly’s and hummingbirds and bees, and insects I didn’t know existed get sustenance from something I started in my darkest time. Healed a piece of me that needed to know I held value no matter what stage of life and myself I was in. Even when I was no longer the same person I was before that heartbreaking experience, even if I was a little bit more scared of the world, a lot more reserved and lonely, a little bit more synical and untrusting, even if the depression was still there, even if outside my porch, my world was still dark and I was still grieving. I knew I held value and that I didn’t have to be strong all the time, I could walk at my own pace, I’m proud of my garden and I’m not the same person I was before I started it, what my garden cost me was the environment I started the healing process in. And what it taught me was that just like a flower you can’t rush your growth, your healing or the season you blossom in. After all you don’t throw out a flower that isn’t blooming or thriving in its current place, you change its environment and you give it care and love and then allow it to be, and those things that value and need it will find it. I know this is long and I truly hope this helps. You are a flower Kureha, and you are able to bloom beyond measure and come out better and healthier on the later end. If you’re not already, find out what you need for a small moment of joy and sit with it without thoughts of all that weighs on your shoulders. Then keep growing it, no pressure just small steps of progress at your own pace. A song I’d like to give to you to listen to is Big Little by Felivand. Go in peace. With love, N.

I wish I had some sage advice or profound insight but, alas, I do not. Take the time you need, show grace to yourself as the grace you would show to others, and know we'll be here waiting and rooting for you.

Hi Kureha! (This may be a long one, so sorry, but I hope it can cheer you up 🤗). Please take so much care of ur mental health. I'm sure we all understand where you're coming from, and what you've written I resonate so much. I hope you know how loved you are in this community and how much we cherish your work and in the same way we cherish you so much. The harshness of life can feel inescapable or stagnant. But know life and time is always moving and you can always join when you are ready. I know it feels like you want everything to be 'perfect', but the reality is, nothing is truly 'perfect'. What we love about your work is the heart and passion inside. The care you give each characters to where we see ourselves in them, the world you build where we all feel like we can escape to. It becomes a comfort. So please don't put any pressure onto yourself and trust in your heart and work what you deliver always exceeds our expectations. And we will continue to wait for more, whenever you are ready! We love and cherish you, so please be easy on yourself and take all the time you need to heal ❤️‍🩹

Hi Kureha! I just wanted to say I've really enjoyed your DoRo series and the way you write romance and character interactions. I'm an aspiring game developer working on a story-driven fantasy RPG, and your storytelling has been really inspiring to me. I'm still in the early stages of building my project and team, but my hope is that one day, if you're ever interested and available, I'd love to reach out about collaborating on the romance writing. No pressure at all—I just wanted to let you know that I really admire your work and hope to work with you someday. Wishing you the best with your future projects!

Kureha, I totally understand where you're at. I'm 27, and I barely make enough to survive. Going through school and working part-time just isn't enough. I sometimes have moments of wanting to stay inside and never leave. I hope everything works out for you and your sister. The only direction from the bottom is up. I know you guys will figure it out and everything will get better. You have my support always. I wish you the best vibes.

Hi Kure it's taken me a while to respond because i want my response to come off as genuine and I often have problems getting my intended tone across to people. That actually, is why I love Doro so much and pen's journey throughout it. Her struggle to communicate her feelings to others while different in appearance to mine is the same. Same goes for Lars and his need for control, Arron's need for security and Iza's struggle with shame. All of your characters have helped me find out more about myself and to find out that they were one of the few things keeping you going all this time is heartbreaking because I know what its like when only one thing is keeping you going. The fear that the passion might fade at any moment and the even greater fear of burn out is terrifying. Even though I don't know weather the hard times will pass I plan on staying regardless just for the sake of the things I love and I hope you do too. Things are tough right now but if we focus on the things we love to keep us going surly we will get through it. Your stories are heartfelt and I can feel the love and care with every new project and I hope things get better for you and anyone else struggling with the things life throws at us.

Checky

Take all the time you need. If you need a breath go on, that kind of situation is neither easy or obvious, and of course you shouldn't neglect yourself for it. Nobody here is moving, take care of yourself as long as you need.
