Ah The Last of Us. A game so brilliant to date it's the only game I broke my 'no zombie' rule for. A game that tackled heavy thoughts and emotions and wasn't afraid to show us the darkest of humanity. And at the end, we where simply asked to ponder, "Did Joel do the right thing". Shame it's sequel is so lazy, so ham-fisted, and working so hard to shove it's moral down our throats (a moral it doesn't even apply uniformly. But hey, like that wannabe Wisecracks says, we can't be bound to only one way of thinking. Our world views and beliefs have to be able to change at any time) that it retroactively destroys the first one and makes it just as bad. And never forget, Neil Druckmann apparently agrees with the idea Joel was in the wrong when he made Last of Us Part II, but no longer does due to becoming a father himself. So not only did he create a game that kills this franchise, but ruined any hope I had for Naughty Dog going forward, he doesn't even stand by it.

No, i can't. The only people who seem to hate part 2 are babies about who dies. And people who call everything woke. Then they try to hide behind silly shit like what you're saying. There's no way someone could love the first and hate the second.

Even ignoring that it's totally valid to feel upset when a character you like dies, how about the idea that some people might actually agree with what Joel did in saving Ellie. Which of course was considered valid by the open nature of the first game, only for the second game to say "No, think this way". How about the fact that it's message of how destructive revenge is rings hollow when Ellie and Abby both want revenge for the exact same reason, but one is not only allowed to get her revenge but is allowed to have a largely intact life? I could argue the only people I see who like part 2 are pseudo intellectuals who obsesses over a message (a message the guy who wrote it doesn't even stand by anymore, proving how based on emotion it was) and just want to punish men. It is fully possible for someone to love the first and not the second. Thinking there isn't is just proving you care about the brand not the actual product.

Nah, it doesn't matter if joel was right or wrong. You're allowed to feel either way about it. Nothing is forced. Ellie doesnt take her revenge cause Abby is taking care of Lev. If she kills Abby, does Lev come after her? After her family? She ended the cycle of revenge. It makes zero sense that someone could hate part 2 after loving part 1. The gameplay is by far better and the story is still very very good. So to all of a sudden hate the first is fucking weird.

Maybe if we the player was allowed to determine if we got to take revenge on Abby instead of just saying "No, revenge breeds revenge, be a doormat and loose everything". Fact is these cycle of revenge stories only work if EVERYONE looses. Otherwise you're saying one person has to just be a victim. Again, I do not believe the story is better. And gameplay? Well honestly while bad gameplay can hurt a game, good gameplay cannot help a game. and how about this, why does Ellie have to lose everything but Abby gets to keep everything? If anything that should drive Ellie to want revenge MORE. Cycle of revenge or not, Abby gets the better life out of killing Joel and refuses to show any sign of penance for it. Asking me to empathize and forgive a person like that is borderline toxic. At some point the sword has to be chosen over the olive branch. But I realize I'm spending more time defending my hate of the second one rather than my hate of the first. So I'll just explain. I know many people call this unfair, but I don't. See, I don't see a series as indivisual parts, I see them as a whole. Since now half this series is rotten to it's core (from my standpoint) and no way to fix it or justify the problem (like a different creator or a rushed schedule) that means the entire series fails. Especially when a plot point of the first half is the primary cause of the second half's rottenness. Plus, how much a problem offends me personally will carry a LOT of weight. For example, not that much of the Monkey Island series is bad. BUT the parts that are bad bother me on a personal level so they're far harder to overlook.
