Hi patrons! As members of the $5 tier or higher, part of your reward is commentary tracks which we will make sure to release monthly like we're supposed to (last month's was Ouija with our hilarious friend Nick Skardarasy, check it out if you haven't).

For these movies I've always tried to pick from Shudder or, more recently, Amazon Prime Video and Netflix, since I assume most people have those streaming services already. I've always been reluctant to pick a movie that you'd have to rent on VOD or buy another subscription to watch, since I figure you're already paying for the commentary track so you shouldn't have to pay extra for the movie.

HOWEVER, Ben has suggested we do commentary tracks on any movie, regardless of where it's available to watch. The pros are that it would open us up to a lot more options than we've had lately. The cons are that you might have to pay to watch the movie if it's not on a service you already have.

REMINDER that we can't do Tubu or any service with ads, since ads differ in their length and placement and would mess up the commentary track's sync with the movie.

Please vote in the poll for where you want the movies to potentially come from, and feel free to leave a comment with your thoughts. You can select as many options as you'd like. We want to make these the most enjoyable and exciting they can be for you, so whether that means keeping them easily accessible or opening them up to a lot more movies is up to you!

I either pirate the movie or buy a Blu-Ray anyways. Streaming is true satan

Brent Hillyer

I like the any movie option. It might get some of us to take chances on films we wouldn't have otherwise.

Colby Greer

Hey I will pay anything to get yall to bring Beth back for the Boy 2😂

Hannah S

I can find a lot of the movies streaming through my local library on Kanopy or Hoopla!

Jimmy O'Connor

I could finally watch Point Break with James and Chelsea just like I’ve always wanted. Dreams can come true.

Joey Combs

Is there a way to select ALL STREAMERS as a bucket? I’m subscribed to most, and if I need to do a trial for a platform I would do so. That would open it up dramatically without having to go rent the movie somewhere. Also, as you experienced with the House of Wax rental, not all rentals are the same so it may mess with the movie track

Sakura-chan

I would totally rent a movie just to listen alongside you guys in a Commentary Track! Thanks for all the Patreon love lately (:

Sakura-chan

Yes! One of my favorite tracks!

Lee Murphy

Im cool with VODs because even though some movies might be on amazon for you in the US it might not be on Amazon for me in Ireland

FrancescoTakesItEasy

I mostly listen to commentary tracks for movies I'm already familiar with, and most of those I have on disc anyway. If you cover something I wanna watch, and I have to buy or rent it? I don't really care. I'm an elder millenial who's single and an introvert, so I spend most of my disposable income on movies and weed anyway ^^

VickyScreams

I was going to say the same for me in the UK

The homunculus

Movie rentals aren’t usually more than 5-6 bucks, I tend to rent movies on a reliable platform as opposed to pirating movies on a website that’ll bug out on me. Especially if I’m listening to a commentary

Sebastian Hellsing

I prefer you watch something you either like (but will not be covered on a KC or Podcast) or just wanna watch. Also fine with bad movies like Ouija (you should watch the second one it is great!). I live in Sweden so Shudder does not exist here and Netflix has different movies. So availability is not concern for me (also since streaming services rotate so often things might have moved a week or month later anyway). Finally I want you to watch The Boy 2 with Beth!

FauphTalk

I feel like it's more genuine when it's movies that catch your (Dead Meat's) interest, and those are always the best episodes!

Moderately Dinosaur

Yes! Support your local library and get loads of free movies on Kanopy (assuming you live in the US).

Drew Nischke

as long as it’s rentable i’m good!

bear

i have a very legal site i like to use for movies so 99% of movies are accessible to me. definitely want to watch movies that you guys want to watch and are passionate about! (either negatively or positively lol)

jules

Streaming services are too finicky, region-locked, and increasingly expensive to make decisions based on them, imo

Froggy fresh

Any movie makes the most sense since different regions have different libraries available for different amounts of time

John Carr

I’d prefer Shudder if it’s a single source, but I have to say Prime has an impressive horror library

Jared

i feel like these make better as single audio tracks and not watchalongs. meaning i just listen to the track and generally can keep track with the story (the only movie I have ever watched along with was Shakma and that was perfect).

Kevin Kingsland

To be fair, For other podcasts (your Bloody FM brethren Horror Queers & The Halloweenies) that do commentary tracks I usually just listen and don't do the watchdog any way. And I've done it with one or two of Dead Meat's too. So it's not a huge deal WHERE the films are available. BUT, I do tend to watch most of my horror on Shudder or in theater.

Josh Moniz

If you're concerned about the issue, make it a policy to alternate back and forth between any source and a streaming/Shudder That way you have flexibility and st least every other films is accessible

Juliethron

i would prefer any movie tbh, since im in norway, shudder isnt available to me and the selection can be different between countries.

Marie

I am fine with any movie, my only request would be specifying which version y'all are doing if (for example) the streaming version differs in length from the version available on physical media.

Aaron Smith

I vote for any movie that’s available to stream. I have all platforms. But I know that’s not the case fr everyone but if you switch it around to which service you do each month, you will please everyone. I would not like one that’s VOD however.

Sam Hymers

We watch Shudder regularly and have found some wonderful hidden gems there (like the very bad movie but actually really fun kind)

Desiree

Just saying, if I usually don't have access to something...🏴‍☠️

Ezra G

I would like the movie to be available to stream /somewhere/ even if it requires a rental

MadTinkerer

I'm gonna do a write in for any streaming as well. I'm a dipper who grabs a service for 1 month at a time.

Parasocially Awkward

I vote to support Shudder, but I really wish they'd get with the times and develop a stand-alone smart TV app. Using the various forms of mirroring my phone to my television is always too clunky and prone to lag. #firstworldproblems

VALIANTIVY

the more the merrier

Jason Stewart

Pick anything, we'll figure out how to watch it!
