Hi everyone! Today we're sharing mechanics to help you run sessions where players are embarking on overland travel across mountainous terrain. This includes extra considerations for standard travel activities, like foraging and navigation, and tips for belaying up mountainsides. There are also mechanics for common mountain hazards, such as avalanches, falls, and unpredictable weather.

We haven't done as much of this type of material. We have something similar for rivers, and we plan to make more content like this as we do more environments, so any feedback on the format and type of information you'd find useful is appreciated!

With my players approaching a mountain range in a few sessions i greatly appreciate the timing of this

Love the weather effects and detail on Lighting only thing i wonder is if 30 mins under an Avalanche/Rockslide would be too quick for death i probably will make it a con save vs. half the hazard DC making it a more viable option to wait for some your allies to come get you out or at the

Happy to hear these will come in handy! For avalanches, I tried to keep them consistent with the avalanche mechanics in Tasha's Cauldron of Everything and mostly modified them by adding options for changing their size and DC. I do agree that guaranteed death after 30 minutes is a bit much since it is possible to survive being in an avalanche for longer than that. If someone is able to create an air pocket, they could even survive for multiple hours. There's a balance to accounting for variables like that but not making the rules overly bloated, and I'm glad you're making the adjustments you feel are right for your campaign. I'll look into making some adjustments. I like the Con save idea, and it might be cool to have successful saves cut the rate at which you gain levels of exhaustion by half.
