I do love this episode. Barclay is the perfect character to undergo this change, and (as others have already said) Dwight Schultz hits it out of the park with his performance. Like you, I have always liked that moment when Troi, Crusher, and Riker walk out of the Briefing Room, each of them doing a little character-take as they leave; it shows just how much the chemistry between the actors/characters has improved since the beginning.

This has always been one of my favourite episodes of Star Trek TNG, Dwight Schultz did an amazing job at convincing the viewer of his character's change from the nervous man lacking confidence into the highly intelligent and extremely confident person he became and back again. Reg Barclay was the best addition to the crew of The Enterprise in my opinion, Dwight Schultz brought the character to life and in my opinion played him perfectly.
