Hey guys! The Abyss (1989) won this week's poll. I'm excited! It was suggested in the comments that I do a poll to choose the version we watch. I have access to both versions but not sure which version is more available in other parts of the world.

I don't remember which one I have. I'll have to find it.

It looks like the version that's available for free on Disney+, and also the version you can buy a rent from Apple TV, is the theatrical version (2:20). But for some reason the Apple TV poster art says "Special Edition." (do you get both with one purchase?) Over50Gamer points out that the Special Edition (2:51) is available for rent or purchase on YouTube. I thought the special edition was definitely better. You watch it and you say "Oh, yeah, that makes more sense." But I don't know how to reconcile that with the difficulty of obtaining it compared to the Disney+ version which is "free" for anyone with Disney+.

On Apple, at least in the US, the theatrical cut is the "main" version, but the Special Edition is included in the extras if you buy it. Not sure about rental.
