Can we have more chill stoner parents in films?

Kane

I had somehow gone my whole life without seeing this until last Halloween season when I watched it for the first time. I was shocked by how many thing reference this movie. It's weird that Spielberg doesn't get credit for directing this despite being on scene every day because the rules of the Director's Guild didn't allow a director to make more than one movie at a time back then. In so many ways this feels about as Spielberg-ery as any movie possibly could. Jen - Once again, thanks for putting yourself through these for the channel, I hope you enjoy them on some level.

That f*(kin' clown...... just nope nope nope nope. Great reaction, Jen! A lot of fricks and frigs on this one.

Children do best with parents who are authoritative not permissive. Does anyone think young adults are turning out better for permissive upbringings in 2024?

New favorite saying “frigg off”.

i dont see the correlation between being a stoner parent and being permissive. you can be stoned and be authoritative.

If you want a lighter side to clowns I recommend “Killer Klowns from outta space “. Killer soundtrack too

Jen, look up this cast on Wikipedia, specifically the daughters. That's the true terrifying part is what happened to these poor children in real life.

There's so many conflicting reports about what happened on set. It is at worst co-directed by Hooper and Spielberg or it's Hooper as director and Spielberg as an active producer. I tend to think the latter. It's obviously also Spielberg coded as he co-wrote it.

Stephen Malloy

The Spielberg signature: put little kids in grave peril. Works every time.

I saw this film when I was too young to watch it. I was facinated and terrified at the same time. At night whenever I heard the Canadian anthem playing on CBC i knew when to shut off the TV. Static TV still sends a little shiver up my spine. Great reaction Jen. Looking forward to your reaction to 'The Void'.

Can't say I've read a lot of autobiographies of people who have achieved in life and drug-taking parents frequently appearing in their early life. True crime biographies maybe...
