S02E21 By Any Other Name We're back with the ORIGINAL crew and I couldn't be happier! I was told this ep (sometimes listed as S02E22 in different sources!) will be referenced in an upcoming TNG ep so I'm happy to check it out! Got home from work and just had dinner, so this will be a perfect finisher to my day. Have a good night and thank you Jen!

Ian

Delightful thumbnail what a magical expression on your face Jen , don't think I've ever seen this so should be a fun watch 🔥🖖

Dylan

Watching a Star Trek reaction with the original crew again is friggin awesome 🖖

Ed Bartlett

I am so thrilled you decided to watch this episode. :)

Jeremy

Not sure if you know that Nurse Chapel is played by Majel Barrett. Who also plays Lwaxana and the Enterprise Computer. She was also married to Gene Roddenberry.

Banes

I don’t know TOS that well or know this episode but checking this out with you sounds like a fine evening’s unwinding!

Jeff Seely

I've been a Star Trek fan ever since TNG started airing in the '80s, but I never got around to watching all of the original series. So, I was watching this episode for the first time with you! I had a lot of fun with it. It was surprisingly good for an episode that doesn't get a lot of fanfare.

Great to re-visit the old crew. 💜🖖 Hugely fun reaction, don't recall seeing this ep before, I enjoyed. 26:55 At least the strange space phenomena they went through had lovely shades of purple. 👍 44:35-ish "Can't out drink a Scot!" 😅 Nice accent. Star Trek TOS music to each episode (75 tracks) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7LidadOt5uI&list=PLXCALJAH2Zp4zJa6n7qrESSuEw_tbCeCX Track #45 Trek TOS 'By Any Other Name' episode score. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vVRh0_JEt8Y www.jenmurrayxo.com

HAHAHA Who ever suggested this episode to Jen, Bravo. It's ridiculous and I'm here for it.

Dustin Denner

Warren Stevens, Rojan, is also in "Forbidden Planet" (1956), one of the inspirations for Gene Roddenberry in creating Star Trek. A highly recommended watch.

Andrew Roach

Without giving anything away the connection of this episode to one of the two next episodes you will be doing is very small. Be on the lookout and in your blurb on the next TNG reaction let us know if you found the link between the two as I think we all would be curious if you did. And don't worry, we won't think any less of you if you miss it. Also when you are done TNG and are ready to start the movies you should watch the TOS episode Metamorphosis at that time which has a strong connection to one of the TNG movies.

True it is a small connection, and I’m glad someone suggested this episode, it was fun to watch

I agree, it's tiny. Personally, I don't think you needed to see this episode at all to enjoy "Relics," and the particular moment they're thinking about works fine without the connection. Still, it's true that the connection adds a level of depth. And this is a very fine episode, so it's worth your time anyway. I think of it as two episodes, really. For the first 30 minutes, it's all about Kirk & Co. losing battle after battle to the Kelvans, until things look hopeless. But the last 20 minutes are in an entirely different tone, mostly hilarious and goofy, as our boys use their various personal tricks (Scotty's drinking, Kirk's making out, Spock's subtle jabs, etc.) to get the better of Rojan & co. As a piece of artistic structure, it's really interesting. Personally I adore it when you talk about the music. Don't stifle that impulse. :)

Jeremy Vickers

I so wish you would pepper in some of the original series that you missed even the silly ones are fun to watch.

Witchfinder General

For great music I highly recommend checking out an episode of Sting Ray (1964)

Joe Blankenship

Geez, 4.5 hours?! I might have done these watchalongs if it had been the regular cuts. (don't have access to the extended cut anyway)

Extended cuts: *Fellowship -- 3h 28m *Two Towers -- 3h 43m *Return of the King -- 4h 11m They fly by. Cheap to rent on Amazon Prime Video. Free to stream on MAX if you are a subscriber.

Binge Trek

I watched Relics before this and it was fine but even though I am more a TNG-Voyager-DS9 person I have warmed up to TOS watching reactors.
