Ian

Getting close to DS9 now the YouTube crowd are going to start getting excited 🖖🔥love the thumbnail btw just wonderful as always

Dean

I love how Jellico isn’t really a villain; he’s an antagonist and mostly because he just has a different command style to Picard or Kirk

Dean

I’m actually a fan of the 4 shift rotation. It gives the crew more down time

downtown7

problem with the Kardashians lmao. i, too, have problems with the Kardashians

Robert Cooper

So many fun facts. A lot t of the changes Jellico makes: getting rid of the fish, having Troi wear a standard uniform, are things the cast wanted. Next episode, though, best of the series.

Luetin

I love how when Jellico arrives, you realise this is probably how a starship should be run 😅 and that by comparison the Enterprise seems like this super chill cruise most of the time

Julian San

I love Chain of Command. Would you like Ronny Cox or David Warner to guest star? Yes.

Alecco

well yes, a warship should be run like this. but starfleet is not the military, and the enterprise not a warship!

SnabbKassa

But there is a debate among fans, writers and fictionally, within the UFP itself, as to whether the Enterprise is a warship or a flying hotel for diplomats. I think being far out in space with all the same people for years and not much crew rotation means that they would get too comfortable and become a family, which is sometimes not what the strategic situation demands.

SnabbKassa

oh. I just realised with some horror. Were the fish never seen again!? or were they back in the C.R.R. in the next episode? and if not, what did the cast have against fish?

Robert Cooper

Patrick Stewart thought keeping a fish caged up in the ready room seemed unenlightened.

Robert Cooper

I think the point of the switch was to communicate the nature of the change in the ship. A four shift rotation is a combat rotation. It makes sure you have the maximum number of people awake and potentially available for duty at a time because you are stagger sleep schedules.

Dean

It comes up in another show too later outside of a combat scenario and the character sold it as allowing more downtime, but you’re probably more accurate for this episode’s context

Jellico wasn't bad so much as different, with literally no time to actually implement his wanted changes. As he expressed more than once, to I think both Troi and Picard, he wished he could give everyone a break, but he doesn't have the luxury or time to do so.

FleetAdmiralJ

I burst out laughing when she said that lmao
