I’ve never been able to appreciate this film. I understand its importance in the evolution of filmmaking, but the humor hasn’t aged well. These guys come off as sexist jerks that I never want to be around. That said, thank you for the reaction, Jen. Love your channel.

This is indeed different from the T.V series i grew up with M*A *S*H the series first when i saw this on cable i was expecting a laugh track and i was confused now that i'm older i'm still confused LOL All the overlapping dialogue and dark humor are definitely ALTMAN trademarks Gary Burgoff [Radar ] is the only cast member to reprise his role in the series Elliot Gould and Donald Sutherland are great in their parts Rene Auberjonois ( Father John Mulcahy ] would go on to play ODO in Deep space Nine. i would also recommend The Player as another Robert Altman film you may enjoy .

MASH hospitals are close to the front lines. Basically, wounded from the front lines are evacuated to MASH units (MASH stands for Mobile Army Surgical Hospital) where they are triaged and patched up as best as possible, then if the wound is serious, they are evacuated to an actual hospital back at the nearest base. I think they've phased them out in favor of a new methodology, but they were used in the Korean War.

Spekaing of Rene Auberjonois - I always forget he's in this movie, and then I see him and I go, "ODO!"

A classic film I am glad you made time to experience.

Henry Blake was making fishing lures in a process known as fly tying. Basically you take a bare fishhook and tie various feathers onto it to resemble whatever it is that the fish would eat.

Robert Altman was incomparably great. I’d say the essentials (& I think you’d love all) are: Nashville, The Long Goodbye, McCabe & Mrs. Miller, and his last masterpiece, The Player… one of the best hollywood backstage dramas ever. It also starts with my favorite of all show-offy long takes.
