Flawless victory! I felt like a kid again watching this one - tho it definitely wouldn't have been my thing when I was an actual kid in 1995 😆 This one was fighty fun and I'm curious if the sequel is as fun? And there's a new one coming out this year?!

I'd skip the sequel and instead jump to the fairly decent reboot from 2021

Guy Gordon

The sequel is pure garbage. Avoid!

this is campy fun, but yeah like others have said… the sequel is terrible. They admitted to just not finishing effects and shipping it off. It’s truly a piece of trash. The remake however? REALLY violent bloody fun and the sequel on the way with my homie Bajo in it… STOKED.

i can never forget that chris lambert laugh

Don't feel too bad; i have a hard time remembering names and faces. The curse of having a mind geared more for numbers and codes (and music).

Julian San

The sequel is considered one of the worst movies ever lol

William Rosmer

as someone who was 10 in 95 this movie is great and my knees and back hurt. also yeah the sequel can be so bad it's okay if you watch it to laugh at it. the more recent one did some things right and did some things wrong but was way better than the sequel but imo not as good as this one

I was 22 when this movie came out and I saw it in the theaters with some friends. I immediately got the soundtrack on CD because, I think you'd agree, it was a great mix of movie score and techno, rock and metal. SIDE NOTE: I was already into metal coming out of high school, but this movie pushed my taste further into industrial metal and death metal. Fear Factory's "Zero Signal" (scene where Johnny Cage battled Scorpion) and Napalm Death's "Twist The Knife (Slowly)" (from the scene where Goro is just demolishing fighters) were the standouts for me, and also I saw you really digging Traci Lords' "Control" instrumental (scene where Liu Kang battles Reptile), which is always a techno fave of mine. So, yeah, this movie is in my collection, as you can imagine. Like the others said here, the sequel is bad. They also said the reboot is solid, and I agree to SOME extent (here is where I wrote my thoughts on it, but I erased them; I don't want my opinions influencing your decision on whether to watch it). For me, though, this movie is one of the best video-game inspired movies to ever come out. Yeah, it was cheesy, but in the best way possible. It knew what it was and leaned into it proudly, didn't take itself too seriously, but made the story, dialogue, acting and fighting the heart of it.

Don't think you caught it, but Princess Kitana was a Bond girl in License To Kill with Timothy Dalton!.......and just like everyone else says, do not watch the sequel to this version!!!

i was 15 when this came out to all you guys saying to skip the sequel you know she not going to skip it right even though you say to you know she might like it so jen find out is she likes it or not and not just take it on your say so

I was one of the 10 year old boys obsessed with MK when this came out. At the time I loved it, but the lack of blood was disappointing to say the least. The direct sequel, Annihilation, is only worth watching if you want to see how bad a movie can be and still released in theaters. The 2021 Mortal Kombat is okay - it is very gory, which I love. There are a ton of martial arts movies - my favorite being Jackie Chan's Drunken Master 2 (you don't need to watch the first one to enjoy this sequel).

Major Peril

OH YEAH! Some ‘90s video game fighting action. Campy fun. 😁 Jen looked like she was enjoying it. Never got into the MK craze when I was younger and didn’t see the movie until later. When I did finally see it, I remember thinking it was great to see Christopher Lambert (Lord Raiden), the original Highlander himself, playing a role. There can be only one!

Tony Bain

I had to Google it but i think you meant Billy Madison?.

Ian

Flawless reaction Jenny blaze 🔥 this was a yon if fun the music was fantastic and your enjoyment alone made this a delight to watch along with you . Can't believe anyone would complain at you calling a movie cheesy who the frog are these people 🤷. More cheesy video game fun maybe street fighter and Tron would both make fun reactions 🔥

Yas, Jen! I saw this one in the theater as a teen when it was released and it was awesome! The sequel was disappointing. I didn't follow the game lore so I didn't what was canon or not. But I did watch the TV series and I thought it was pretty cool because it deals with the first tournament with Kung Lao and Shang Sung's past. They cancelled it after the first season but it was so cool! There is a newer movie and there is a new sequel to that movie coming soon, I think. Not to mention the Saturday Morning Cartoon that was around for a sec.

Andy Thomas

I saw it after the first day of my sophomore year of high school. We had a half day of school so I went with a bunch of my friends to Ford City to watch it.

scott osborne

sorry im not american i dont get your school year names are you saying that you was in your first or 2nd year of high school

Alexis

This movie is prime 90s cheese in the best of ways, unlike the Street Fighter movie from the year before (though Raul Julia does an amazing Bison).

Andy Thomas

Sophomore year is the second year. I was also 15 when this movie came out.

Zapp Rowsdower

I watched this in the theater. I was 16 and found some aspects of it to be cheesy. Still fun, though. The soundtrack on the Johnny Cage vs Scorpion underground scene is my fav. I remember thinking, "Man this sounds so much like Fear Factory". Stayed for the credits just to see if I was right. Nobody else sounded quite like them at the time. "Demanufacture" stands as one of my favorite albums of the 90s. Dino Cazares played that chugging guitar you noted. Anyway, about the sequels, I enjoyed the sequels to the game better than the movie sequels. By the time this first movie came out, the 3rd game had just come out. The movie makes use of mainly the fighters from the first game, except for Kitana, Jax (Sonya's partner) and the villain Shao Kahn (who we see at the very end) who first appear in the 2nd game.

Harvey Lee

The first Drunken Master would be chessey and bizarre by today's standards , Drunken Master 2 is definitely the one to go for featuring some of the best fight scenes i've ever seen .

Harvey Lee

This was a great slice of 90's action definitely campy in parts but it was fun so i will catch up by watching this tonight , fun fact Robin Shou[ Lou Kang] was a Hong Kong Stuntman , Action star and he was the one who trained Milla Jovovich in Martial arts for Resident Evil : Apocalypse .

Paul Schmitt

The sequel is atrocious. You can get a laugh out of it for how bad it.
