Another 50's classic and this one left me verrrry unsettled (lol drink every time I say 'unsettled' in the outro 😂). I feel like this one didn't blow minds at the time with special effects but probably did with the creeeeepy story! I've heard the 70's remake is just as good or even better, any interest in that one?

Yes please for the 70s remake! :D

Brad Shelton

The 70's remake is alot better. Also Spock is in it, along with a bunch of other actors you will recognize.

Thadman

I watched this one more, as a kid, than the 70s one, but I do remember the 70s one being super creepy. The "unsettling" nature of the story of this one is what stuck with me and why I watched it multiple times. If you watch the 70s one, it'll give me another reason to rewatch it.

Rob Nichols

I love the 50's thrillers so I wouldn't say the remake is better, but it's a cool take on the story and one of the few remakes I approve of (right up there with The Fly and The Thing).

deskmerc

I saw the 70's one when it came out, and I still bear mental scars of Nimoy's performance in this film. Absolutely watch it!

ioma

Well, if you want to see a certain vulcan in the 70's version, yes.

Jen Murray

Oh dang I didn't know Spock was in it - I probably would've freaked out when I saw him lol

Geoff S.

I always got this mixed up with Day of the Triffids but I don't think I've seen this one. Should be fun! I found myself eyeing the pea pods in my dinner tonight very suspiciously after this!

Danny Steele

This whole movie has been seen as an allegory for communism and McCarthyism.

Brad Shelton

Sorry if that was considered a spoiler, the name is in the opening credits so I didn't think it would be one.

Marcus Hicks

This is one of those rare instances where I feel the "remake"-from the 70s-is better than the original. The Thing is another instance of that.

Lana Gorgeous

I'm in my 60's and I saw this movie when I was like 12 in 1970 and I saw the remake when I was in my teens. I can't say which one I liked better, but as far as critiques, this version holds a 98% approval rating and 9.1/10 rating at the film review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes. The site's consensus reads: "One of the best political allegories of the 1950s, Invasion of the Body Snatchers is an efficient, chilling blend of sci-fi and horror." Metacritic, which uses a weighted average, assigned the film a score of 92 out of 100, based on 16 critics, indicating "universal acclaim"..................... But one thing that set the two apart was that final kiss and his expression. That was the most bone chilling thing I had ever seen and as a little kid it terrorized me. The 70's version was good, and better special effects of course, but nothing in the 70's version had the same effect on me as that kiss. I guess I slightly prefer the 50's version because of its effects on me and the kiss!

Jeremy Nuss

If they thought sleeping drugs would prevent the body snatching then why not take it themselves to get rest? 🤔

Bammer

That's a big no for "The Thing" remake, but I do agree with the 1978 remake of "Invasion of the Body Snatchers."

Jay

I love the 70s version. Please watch that one.

Ron

This version (1956) made such a strong impression that I still get weirded out by the pod reveal. And, yes, the 1978 version is well worth a watch. I definitely agree with others that this is a sequel which actually improves on the original.

Julian San

I watched this many times as a kid. I didn’t see the remake 70s until I was an adult. It’s very good and crazy how much of a beat for beat remake it is, even the characters names are virtually identical lol

Ant

Yes very much interested in watching the 70s version, that is a great movie!

Toc

Yes to the remake! Especially since you've now seen the first one!!!

Jake McNulty

Yes please, 100% watch the 70s version!

Toc

Great reaction!!!! Definitely yes to the 70s version ......and also to the 90s version! (however the 2000s version sucks!)

Major Peril

THEY’RE HERE ALREADY! YOU’RE NEXT!! YOU’RE NEXT!! Excellent reaction to this 50’s classic. Although I like this version very much, it never really explains the connection between the pods, the pod “blanks” and how the replacement of the real person actually happens. Particularly in Becky’s case where she falls asleep but far remote from any pod. How’s that work? Oh, and yeah… I too was “unsettled”. 😆 Yes please, must see the 1978 remake. Well worth it.

Rune Schaumann

I like this movie, but I think the 1978 version is superior.

Michael T

I love this movie, and personally I think it's WAY better than the 1970s remake. The original is definitely one of the most *unsettling* science fiction films I have ever seen. When he kisses her the last time in the cave? Yikes!!!

John DiGiantomasso

Teddy is most common for Theodora. Carolyn Jones who played Teddy went on to play Morticia Addams on the TV Addams Family! I had never seen this before. It reminds me of one of Michael Crichiton's earliest works - The Andromeda Strain. Much more sciency! Was made into an amazing thriller sci-fi movie movie in 1971. Another great sci-fi movie classic. The science holds up really well even fifty years later - it's that good. You should do it for sure when you get to the 70s! Doing it sooner would be okay, too. 😃

Banes

Just started watching...and I think that when they say "I went to Reno" it means they both got divorced. I remember the phrase "going to Reno" from Shawshank Redemption. I guess back then Reno Nevada was where you needed to go for that.

Major Peril

Yes, +1 for The Andromeda Strain (1971). Excellent sci-fi thriller.

TigerMyth

Definitely check out the 70s version. One of my favorite lines from any movie. The Meg Tilly version isn't as good but it also has one of my favorite lines from a horror film. There are also a TON of movies with different names but the same plot.

Rob Nichols

Now you should get what Jerry meant when he called Kramer a pod lol.

Chris Biebel

Here's the thing. This movie was revised before it was released. The opening scene, the voice over, and the ending were added later because the studio execs thought it was too unsettling. In the original version, it didn't take place in a flashback. Without the voice over, you can't really tell if what is happening at first isn't all in their heads, since the explanations of the police and psychiatrist make perfect sense. . It ends with the scene of him running and yelling on the highway (so no way of knowing if the rest of the world was going to be warned about it). It would have been an even scarier movie in the original form.

Thadman

I think she already did The Andromeda Strain. I just watched it within the last year and I swear it was because of a full length reaction.

TigerMyth

You have to understand the time. This was after WWII and around Korea. The world was in a very unsettling state. Hostilities shifted from Nazis to Communists. McCarthy was on a rampage against secret and not so secret communists in the US. This is a reactionary movie to the McCarthy witch hunt. The problem is that there were communists in the US at the time. Some just wanted to a peacefully change to Communism but many were willing to violently overthrow the government. Muddying the waters, the peaceful Communists in may cases were friends with the folks advocating violence. Even though the way McCarthy went about things was wrong, he wasn't wrong about communists in the US. They were here and they never left.

Harvey Lee

Yes this has definite horror elements to it and very psychologically [ahem] unsettling i recall references to it throughout pop culture something along the lines of '' Why are you acting so weird have you been replaced by a POD PERSON ? Yes please watch the 70's remake i believe it's one of the best Sci FI remakes ever Donald Sutherland , Jeff Goldblum and Veronica Cartwright make for a talented ensemble that ramps it up even further .
