We've got a golden ticket to another Arnie adventure, and this time he's winking at the camera! 😜 This one is a lot of fun! I'm positive there are lots of references I didn't pick up on so feel free to let me know. I've seen lots of Arnie now, but what others could we check out?

- You think you are funny, don't you? - I know I am! I'm the famous comedian Arnold Braunschweiger 🤣🤣 More Arnie! Conan the Destroyer Jingle All The Way Eraser End of Days The Last Stand The Expendables (only the first 3) 😆 and of course, Red Heat with Arnold and Jim Belushi 😄

Rob Nichols

A good early film with Arnie is The Villain (1979) a goofy comedy western. It's like a live action looney toons.

rubberkidney

whelp gotta be here for this one. i feel like youre pretty up on your arnie? maybe sixthday? the devil one? idk the rest are crap i think

I'll catch this when I'm able to. 😀💜👍 This was a surprising box office disappointment upon release. Though I enjoyed it at the time. Sold a ton of it on laserdisc. Jack Slater: [John Practice has just betrayed Slater] Danny told me not to trust you. He said you killed Moe Zart. John Practice: Moe who? Jack Slater: Zart. John Practice: [thinks for a bit, shrugs] You know, I kill a lot of people, I can't remember half of them. 😂😂 John Practice is played by F. Murray Abraham, who played rival Italian composer Salieri in Amadeus (1984). At one time he was suspected of poisoning/murdering Mozart - but apparently he didn't. You haven't seen Arnie 90s actioner 'Eraser', I don't think. Fun if you check your brain in at the ticket box, I recall it has some wild futuristic weaponry.

Finish up the series with Conan the Destroyer for sure. And any Terminators you may have missed.

Matt

Hope your keeping comfy Jen

Ian Hunter (NewbieInOttawa)

Such an underrated gem of a flick. And killer soundtrack too. Thanks for checking it out, Jen! Hope you're keeping well! <3

rubberkidney

you really have your finger on that billy madison girl, really opened my eyes.

rubberkidney

that was mc hammer which must have been his very last drop of relevancy.

I liked the Netflix "Arnold" documentary. Arnold is one of the top 40 highest-grossing stars of all time. Arnold movies (e.g., T, T2, T3, True Lies, etc.) had massive success at the box office. Arnold on the poor performance of Last Action Hero at the box office: "I was devastated ... It hurts you. It hurts your feelings. It’s embarrassing… I didn’t want to see anyone for a week." James Cameron: “He sounded like he was in bed crying... He took it as a deep blow to his brand. I think it really shook him." I don't judge a movie by box office success. Many movies I like did poorly (or mediocre) at the box office.

This is far from a comprehensive list: When Slater and the kid enter the police station for the first time, they pass Sharon Stone from “Basic Instinct” and Robert Patrick as the T-1000 from “Terminator 2: Judgement Day”. Lt. Dekkar is played by Frank MacRae, who is parodying his role in “48 Hours”, with Nick Nolte and Eddie Murphy. Vivaldi is played by Anthony Quinn, an old-time Hollywood actor with tons of credits to his name. Benedict is played by Charles Dance, most famous for playing Tywin Lannister in “Game of Thrones”. He also misquotes Sherlock Holmes. The exploding eyeball quotes, “Vengeance is mine, sayeth the Lord” – Romans 12:19. MC Hammer was the one who asked Slater about the movie soundtrack at the premiere.

I actually put that in her recommendations. I was worried I might have been the only one to have seen it! Seconded!

Dave B

This might be the most under appreciated film of all time. Had a blast watching with you! Charles Dance as Benedict was a perfect movie villain. Pulling the finger of a guy named Leo "the Fart" to set off a bomb? Priceless. Loved this in the theater and have loved every rewatch. Thanks for picking this one!

I remember seeing this in the theater the week it released, and I LOVED IT!! When it got to Pay Per View on cable, I was watching it ever day, sometimes twice a day (I had a way to do it free). My friend came by one day when I was watching it, right after Danny falls into the movie. My friend was like "ewww... why are you watching this?!" at the point when you see the van jumping and blowing up in the background, and my friend was hooked. I think this failed in the theater, because people did not initially get that it was supposed to be poking fun at action movies, but just not as silly as things like "Hot Shots". Also, it was competing against Jurassic Park in the theaters. But I think it has found a great following on video.

Great reaction to this high-concept action parody comedy! Loved this movie and it’s whole concept for a long time. So many cameos from some well-known actors. All around great fun. The villain in the opening movie is played by actor Tom Noonan, who played the psycho serial killer Francis Dollarhyde so well in Manhunter (1986), very creepy! No, according to Collections you haven’t seen Clash of the Titans (1981) yet, and yeah, you should see Harrison Ford in Witness (1985). More Arnie action in: * Eraser (1996) * End of Days (1999) * The 6th Day (2000) * Collateral Damage (2002) * The Last Stand (2013) * Escape Plan (2013) - with Stallone (who was SO good starring in Terminator 2 😳) * Sabotage (2014) * Maggie (2015) ... and if you want some TV Arnie, check out FUBAR (2023)

This movie has one of my all time favorite villains, because Charles Dance did such a phenomenal job... as usual. I absolutely love the scene when he is breaking the fourth wall and ends his monologue with "If God was a villain, he'd be me." And I love finding times to say "LOOK!! Elephant!" :D

Geoff S.

Clash of the Titans, the one referenced, is from 1981 and is the far better version.

Geoff S.

I just realized you have not seen Amadeus. As much as you love music it is a definite must see. One of the best movies of all time. You'll get the references in Last Action when you do. Clash of the Titans (1981) is also a must see. Incredible cast and fantasy fun that you'll fall in love with. Witness with Harrison Ford is also good. Also, this movie was released a week or two after Jurassic Park and suffered heavily because of it. Side note: The house Whitney lived in is a real place along Beverly Glen just south of Ventura Blvd. As you drive up the canyon on the left you can see numerous homes cantilevered out from the cliff face with huge metal posts. https://www.dwell.com/article/platform-house-richard-neutra-sherman-oaks-2bb7236a

AJ Lynch

fun fact: Danny DeVito voices the cartoon cat detective

Ian

Fantastic fun reaction Jen , plenty of cameos throughout , some you got some you didn't , Robert Patrick from terminator 2 ofc and Sharon. Stone from basic instinct which I don't think you've seen but surprisingly you didn't recognise odd-job from James bond but you recognised plenty so good job Jen . I've recommended Eraser a bunch of times so will do again you love the one liners and that movie has some beauties 🔥 . Oh also no you haven't watched clash of the titans the original or the remake but that would be a fun reaction that you would have a wonderful time with 🙂 maybe a future double bill with Jason and the Argonauts 😉 . What movie would you go into you ask maybe a diamond heist movie 😀 this was great cheers Jen

Schwarzenegger use to own Planet Hollywood with Stallone and Bruce Willis

Noremac

More Arnie? I guess you could watch the classic Hercules in New York. Seriously though you've seen all the top tier Arnold movies already. Unless you want to dip into the B category, I'd recommend finding a different vein to mine. I saw this when it came out, and I felt the same then as I do now. The parody parts work for me, especially in the beginning, but everything else is too generic to catch my attention. The movie could have been a lot more subversive than it actually was, and that feeling of wasted potential is mostly what I take away from it.

JPDotCom23

If you want to see another movie that is similar to this, where the characters walk off the screen, check out Woody Allen's 'The Purple Rose of Cairo', it's a great movie, no action at all but still very whimsical.

Major Peril

Oh right, that would make more sense in the context of the movie, the Harry Hamlin version. How could I have forgotten that one. Nice catch. I have edited my comment.

JPDotCom23

Tom Noonan, the actor who played the Ripper, and himself, also played the original Francis Dollarhyde in Michael Mann's 'Manhunter', and played Kelso in 'Heat', also a Michael Mann film.

Tom W.

Eraser is a pretty good film. Fairly underrated

John

Fantastic reaction Jen!

Clay F

+1 for Amadeus

Carlos Stevens

I swear to God, I thought this movie came out in the mid-80s. I just remember where I was, and what I was doing in '93... I wasn't doing many movies in '93... and I'm pretty sure I saw this one in the theater 5 times.

Harvey Lee

Maybe the fact that it was such a fond tribute to 80's action that is why it felt like"I must 've seen this in the 80's"🤔 It is in the spirit of 90's action as well the flip card countdown was brilliant and the whole movie is really very clever I'm chiming in late as I am re visiting all these Arneee films . Cheers .😃
