Ian

Wow super early upload today , you're a marvel lady Jen , people will be surprised and very happy 🙂 engage 🖖

Thegonagle

“Where do I know this guy from?” I had the same thought and I’m pretty sure he played Prince Humperdink, the Warthog Faced Buffoon in Princess Bride.

Rob Nichols

That's him, he was also the vampire in Fright Night.

Julian San

Woah, this is some EARLY shizz!

Zapp Rowsdower

And the detective from Child's Play. His name is Chris Sarandon - No relation to Susan Sarandon.

Summer

Story 1 with Quark and Humperdink may not be extremely vital but the O’Brien and Bashir part is special in Rivals, season 2 is picking up. Hope everyone there is well and rested

Summer

One aspect of the Quark side in an odd way might seem familiar at some point from Rivals. Jen you have such a good eye for characters

Summer

Forgot the great Keiko scene in Rivals! Jen it might be fun one day if while characters are theorizing you offer a few options of technobabble

Rob Nichols

Jen, DS9 episode S02E19 Blood Oath is coming up in a few weeks. You really need to watch the TOS episode Day Of The Dove first, it introduces a character that will appear in that DS9 episode.

Summer

I actually think Quark was telling the truth

Summer

So hard to remember titles TWT had blank important person, EOM had blank, so its only DOTD from TOS to know the coming ones? I have seen all these but might be good to have a refresher, TOS wasn’t my first Trek

Summer

I suddenly realize Odo has been beyond the wormhole maybe more than anyone so far….dax is close. Odo is conflicted

Opti_Frog

Starfleet Academy apparently follows the British Museum School of archaeological practice. 😋

Squeesher

"The Alternate" features the return of the excellent guest actor James Sloyan, playing Dr. Mora. You last saw him playing the Romulan who was tricked into defecting to the Federation, Admiral Alidar Jarok, from the TNG episode "The Defector" way back in S3E10. His acting career goes back to 1951, and he's still with us! 85 years young :) I always love an Odo episode!

Curran Dobbs

I suspect you know this guy from Rivals as Prince Humperdink from The Princess Bride.

Curran Dobbs

Also, you've met a character from the race of "Listeners" before more than a few times on TNG. This episode is the first time the name of the species is mentioned.

Collinson

Early double DS9 episode. You're spoiling us Jen.

Curran Dobbs

Nefarious Goo would be a good name for a band.

Opti_Frog

She hasn't seen Fright Night, has she?

Curran Dobbs

I don't know but I don't recall seeing it on Patreon (doesn't mean she hasn't seen it independently).

Banes

Rivals has so many ingredients that should make it work. It just doesn't come together for me. Something about the way the characters behave regarding the "magic luck" artifact; the Chris Sarandon con man seems to know how it works from the beginning, but then at the end we see that he never knew how it worked; Quark really wants the game but we never find out why...The last scene with Quark and Sarandon is weird. It's like the script needed another once-over but there was no time (very possible). There's some good stuff with the characters and their relationships though. Onward we go!

Banes

The Alternate was pretty intriguing. A lot of "ALIEN" in it, but not in a heavy handed way. More teases about Odo and his past, and I love meeting his "father" (so to speak) and seeing that tense relationship, and them softening toward each other at the end. Love that kind of thing.

Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

I mentioned on the weekly schedule post that I thought Rivals was kinda meh, but I gotta tell ya I enjoyed it way more than I remember. Not mindblowing, wildly dramatic or action packed, but a fun little slice of life character episode that I thought was pretty fun (Dax reclining with her feet up at her station! 😆)

Carlos Stevens

LOL, After season 1, I'm thinking Jen is really digging the theme song.

Carlos Stevens

Jen, if you want the full experience, it is very important to watch these in air-date order. You are indeed doing it properly...except...you never watched The Original Series. Mr. Spock is displeased. (well ok, there was a giant space amoeba in TOS. No seriously... Giant... Space... Amoeba.)

Summer

It is on the request site with 70 votes everyone who wants Jen to see it should go there and vote

Summer

Vote on the request site everyone

Ian

There is actually a thrash metal band called nefarious so close 🙂

jon bolton

Two more great reactions as always from you to two episodes i like a lot.

Jeff Seely

Did O'Brien and Bashir resume their game at some point? Did they restart it due to the initial unfairness? It bothers me a little bit that that was just dropped. I know the Bajoran orphans were going to get their blankets regardless, but still.

TigerMyth

Loving the Friday episodes instead of waiting until late late late Saturday night.

Mark Chrisco

Perhaps a film starring his fairly well known sister?

Charles

I don't really care for it, but in a great show like DS9, even the "bad" episodes have their moments. I liked the little scenes with Rom.

Bobby Coolbreeze

El Aurians are a species who listen like a bartender we know and you will probably forget when you realize later.

Paul Sophocleous

I believe Jen has watched some of the Original Series (though not all).

Over50Gamer

Glad you mentioned Keiko. Everyone else seems to think she's annoying, but i like the dignity and charm that Rosalind Chao gives to the character. And Miles is a lucky guy to have someone like her to come home to and take care of him. ❤️

Anthony Hernandez

She did watch several of the top episodes of the original series.

Michael B.

I like it too. Not every episode needs to be high stakes or especially meaningful. I like it when shows have episodes once in a while where nothing special really happens and they just show a more or less normal day in the life of the characters.

Michael B.

No relation, but he was married to Susan Sarandon, who took his surname.

Summer

Keiko is actually one of my favorites, I liked the actress since Data’s day, so whenever I see her get a good scene it is the best

TC Green

I never cared for the conman episode but the one with Odo meeting his dad is a good one

The Star Treker (aka Michael)

She watched a good chunk of the original series, all six of the original series movies, and the three Kelvin Timeline films—but honestly, she probably should've waited on those last three. The Kelvin movies technically tie into the main timeline, and the first one actually starts years after Star Trek: Nemesis, the last TNG film, with Ambassador Spock from the TNG era. So it kinda makes more sense to watch them after all four TNG movies—and ideally after Enterprise too—especially if she plans to watch Voyager and Enterprise, since the Kelvin movies throw in references to Enterprise as well. The only series she skipped before The Next Generation was The Animated Series, which is a shame because it picks up right where the original series left off, that came out in 1973, it only had two seasons and before all six of the original series movies. It's officially canon now, even though Gene Roddenberry didn't consider it canon back in the day. But that changed thanks to the newer shows—not just because Lower Decks and Prodigy are animated too, but because Strange New Worlds, which is live-action, confirmed it as part of the canon timeline.

The Star Treker (aka Michael)

Honestly, I liked The Alternate way more than Rivals. It was just a stronger episode overall—especially because it dove deeper into Odo's backstory. You really start to get a glimpse of where he comes from, and trust me, when you reach that point, it hits. I won't spoil anything for you, Jen, but I seriously can't wait for you to get further into Deep Space Nine. Once you get closer to the end of Season 2, things start to shift—and yeah, it still gives me chills every time. Lol.

Aaron

Is that prince humperdinck?

Sykonee

Rivals features some of my favorite, lowkey Miles-Keiko moments. Folks always complained their relationship felt more antagonistic than it should, but very much the opposite here.

William Rosmer

i'm a bit late to this one, but i have to say you're comments about taking the statue thing reminded me of an old joke. Why are the pyramids in Egypt? Because they were too heavy to take to England.

Marcus Hicks

I really love her character....and it certainly helps that Rosalind Chao is *gorgeous*!!!!

Marcus Hicks

I hear that, after Quark bailed him out, Martus went off to frame Gildor for the death of his bride.

Marcus Hicks

So, funny story.....apparently all Neutrinos spin in the same direction naturally.

Marcus Hicks

DS9, in my opinion, is where their relationship truly blossomed....after a slightly rocky beginning.

Marcus Hicks

So, as others have mentioned, Martus and Guinan are from the same race.....and you'll meet another member of their race after you finish TNG
