“There’s no crying in baseball.” One of my favourite movie quotes of all time.

Yann Laliberte

Why going to the game just to laugh? Here is a personal experience. One of my friends once invited me to go see the Habs played against the Blackhawks one day. It was when the Hawks were one of the best show in the NHL. He said it's either that or the magic show his gf was helping produce as a manager. He told me nothing on the show was working and they kept screwing things up. I said forget about the hockey tickets I want to see a screw up magic show. So maybe that was the attraction

It's ... LOOSELY based on a true story. The AAGPBL existed, and outlasted the war, though there hasn't been a female professional baseball or softball league since. Men's baseball didn't get shut down outright though, and neither did American football, but a lot of baseball stars ended up in the war effort, and while a lot of them were basically morale officers, quite a few served on the front lines. They actually couldn't get all the real names, though, and it's painfully obvious who "Harvey" is when they represent Wrigley Field as "Harvey Field"... and Dottie and Kit are not _exactly_ directly based on anyone in particular. (I do love how the scout is entirely "Not interested" until he feels her throwing arm. If Kit was a southpaw, this entire movie wouldn't have happened :P .)

Madonna is a terrible actress, unless she's basically playing herself, as in this movie and "Desperately Seeking Susan" (I suppose "Who's That Girl?" as well, but that one suffered more from an absolutely awful script from the get-go). 😐

Stephen Malloy

Tom Hanks’ character was very loosely based on baseball Hall of Famer Jimmie Foxx, who played from the 1920’s up until WWII. Foxx was not a falling down drunk and was not mean to the women he managed.
