Well, I *was* going to go to bed, but now...

Ian

Totally forgot we were starting season 3 holy frig now I'm even more excited to jump into these reactions 🔥 you're the best trek reactor around Jen and every video is a treat , this is going to be great 🖖 Ty for forever being awesome Jen

Ciarra Jade

Wow love it .. early DS9 🥳🥳

Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

You have the most uncanny knack, J, for lining up these Friday drops on the random weeks when my usual weekly plans happen to fall though. So thank you ha ha🙂👍 Probs be back to comment in a couple hours after I'm able to watch.

Dylan

No better way to spend a Friday night than watching some more Star Trek with Jen 🔥🖖

Matt O'Keefe

Yes: The Defiant. Such a badass little ship. See Jen we have 1 cloaked ship in Starfleet now that has great weapons. You finally got what you have been asking for. Yes the cloak is on loan from the Romulans. But we got it.

Summer

Yay! Watching now but wanted to comment quickly to say great timing love it “please be Romulans” also you see why TNG revealed the cloaking issues only several episodes ago

Ootlander

I was expecting Super Troopers tonight, but this will definitely do lol

Julian San

Oh shit, we’re back to Friday DS9 uploads! 😁

MattN

I like to double up on Jen's vids when I really like the react, in this case I loved the full length Liar, Liar and then watched the YT cut when it came out. I saw she's at 106k subs so looked at her account and saw recently she hit 36 MILLION views!! This month celebrates my 4th year here and am so excited to see how it's grown here. I love this channel and will be here as long as they let me :D

Jen Murray

I post them when I can. I can't guarantee it will always be Friday 🖖

Bammer

The USS Defiant, a.k.a. USS Sisko's Pimp Hand. I need to be to work at 11 tonight, but I guess I'm gonna lose some sleep to watch this reaction.

Banes

Ever since you first mentioned Starfleet needing a cloaked ship, many of us were surely waiting for this moment! Big, big episodes! S'a treat to have it early!

Christopher Lamont Harris

Seeing the look on your face and reaction made me happy and I'm glad you enjoyed it 😊

Summer

I predict you will like most of this season

Desmond

You're right, the back half of s2 was VERY good, significantly better than s7 of TNG, which was airing at the same time. But s3 of DS9 onwards is absolutely where the series picks up and the most memorable stuff happens and the most memorable characters show up. Starting with these episodes of course.

RealityCheck

Yay! season three of DS9! Although, no Voyager? :( Look, you have to be careful and look at the numbers, that is understandable. But why not try three or four of the first few episodes and see how they do? Something tells me if you watched them and uploaded them to youtube, they would do quite well. Very few reactors of your quality has done Voyager, you'd have the niche all to yourself. Plus, I really think you'd love the show. It takes a lot less time to find it's feet than TNG and DS9 did.

WinkNudgeNudge

Man. Given what you liked about episode 1 and 2, I guarantee you'd like Voyager. I really hope you choose to watch it. And yes. I'm so looking forward to seeing season 3 onward!

Bobby Coolbreeze

Wow this is early! A pleasant Friday evening surprise! So The Defiant is a game changer for the show! For its size she packs a punch. She is a small star ship, but heavily armed. Has a crew of around 50 max. She is my favorite ship! Oh and Odo finds his people with a twist lol. Great 2 parter.

Rob Nichols

Season three! The Defiant! It's on now 🖖

Bobby Coolbreeze

I’m so glad we are up to season 3 but now I can’t wait till we get to season 4 lol 😂

Carlos Stevens

LOL Jen, I never heard, did you have a boy or a girl? (When you said, "He's a growing boy" in regards to Jake... I find myself wondering. BTW, my Father/Son relationship with my father was very much like Ben/Jake).

Brett Whittaker

The link is for Startrek Lego btw they looked cool

Geoff S.

Dumb question maybe but Jen did you know Garak was played by Andy Robinson the actor that was also the psycho sniper killer in Dirty Harry?

Paul Peavler

And so it begins. The Die is Cast, as they say.

Forbidden Donut

If I recall correctly, the first TNG movie came out after Deep Space Nine Season 3 Episode 8. Is the plan to watch the movie at that point? Hope so!

Forbidden Donut

Also, obviously cool to see the Defiant, but a little thing: New comm badges with a slight redesign.

Kristin

She had a boy. :)

William Rosmer

next episode is one of my favorites.

William Rosmer

the link seems like a mind meld while on heroin and having the best sex ever

jon bolton

Jen, i have so much to say, and for obvious reasons so much more i could say but won't lol. Firstly I am one of the people who likes the first 2 Seasons, even though i think each Season is better than the last. A great start to S3. I know you wanted some answers about Odo's past and more about the Dominion, guess what both things are the same answer 😂. Aww i could see how upset you were thinking Garak had got the Tasha treatment, as you realise he hadn't really. Oh the Romulan you mentioned you liked, i met the actress, Martha Hackett at a convention about a different acting job she did in something, and got a photo with her, also she's the only person i've knowingly spoken to who shares my birthday, 21st February, obviously she's slightly older, and she was a really lovely person when i talked to her, the photo was her idea for free, normally you need to pay for them but she asked my ex to take one of us on her phone.

John DiGiantomasso

I am a LEGO fanboy, and I've been frustrated over time that they made some bad decisions on which properties to license over time. Okay, I get that they don't want to do war stuff. Pirates and Star Wars, but not Historical War War (usually.) But the think that killed me was when they licensed Angry Birds and started doing sets on that theme while letting Despicable Me and Star Trek go to Megablocks. I mean, come on! Just the look and feel of those two empires are so amazing. Glad to see they have resolved both issues and are now offering sets.

John DiGiantomasso

The thing I love most about DS9 is it's ability to go where the story will have the most impact which is often not along the obvious path. You really have no idea and you get totally invested in the characters and the story arc's impact upon them. You think "Oh great! That's wonderful!" followed minutes or weeks later (you never know) by "Oh shit! That's terrible!" It is a real roller coaster. That being said, Jen, you reactions are perfect. Your eyes are wide, your arms are up tall, and you give us all a lot of "Woooooo!" as you ride that roller coaster. I think you are the dream viewer that the DS9 writers and show-runners were looking for. You feel the depth of the story they are trying to tell, and you get it. You become fully invested in it. And, sometimes (a general comment, not a spoiler) you make some little offhand comment, like "I hope this happens" or "I hope we get to explore that deeper and learn more about that." On these occasions I gird my loins, seal my lips, encapsulate my fingers, and think to myself... You. Have. No. Idea. (And that's the best part. I can't wait to see you get your wish.)

jon bolton

I'm pretty sure i mentioned it in a comment in his first episode.

jon bolton

I love the Defiant. I know not one of the Enterprise ships, but so much great stuff happens there.

jon bolton

I only looked to check for updates, but i'm not complaining at an early post, i love early.

Opti_Frog

Genuinely so happy that you have embraced this very different Star Trek show and its characters. ❤ And did you notice that Jonathan Frakes directed The Search, Part II?

Summer

Clearly in his subconscious Sisko sees Garak as a dangerous ally. So many little signs during the dominion diversion, the lack of mention of Odo and Kira, and Jake is almost a completely different person and doesn’t mention Nog and Keiko is nowhere and not mentioned.

Ian

Yes Jen's said many times she is watching in airdate order which includes the movies so generations isn't far off now 🔥

Ian

Just finished watching with coffee and a bacon sandwich and as I'm like you Jen watching for the first time , I was not expecting the founders being Odo's people at all that was some twist eh , the defiant looks very cool I would love to see it alongside a ship like the enterprise to get a feeling for it's size so maybe we will in time . No spoilers I don't wanna know until I do . Only two episodes into season 3 and I already miss dax's ponytail, her hair looks great up but you can't beat a ponytail am I right 🙂 . Love Kira and Odo's friendship and I'm sure it will grow and grow . The dominion really are a scary race , I agree being able to just beam aboard whenever they wish is terrifying but maybe ob can come up with a way to stop it 🤞 this really was a cracking season opener that leaves me really excited for what's ahead , cheers for the Friday drop Jen you're the best . Catch u in chat for next Jen Sunday 🖖

Jen Murray

If you look in the description of this video above you can see a link to where the TNG movies fall in the DS9 timeline

Guy Incognito

I'm glad how much you're enjoying DS9 and to discover more and more stuff after rewatching it with you, Jen. Indeed the writers are throwing a lot towards the viewers (beyond the obvious). They have planted a lot of narrative seeds so far. Some seemingly insignificant (nearly comedic) episodes like Quark making shady deals for the Ferengi seasons ago have some consequences now. And yes, every Cardassian dialogue has quite a bit of subtext; even the ones that did not really happen 😊. One thing that you might want to take a closer look at is how "diplomacy" works in the Dominion (compared to the other fractions of the Star Trek universe). They are the super power of the Delta quadrant, yet they seem to know a lot about the Alpha Quadrant (and its solids). It's interesting how they've made first contact, how they reveal themselves towards outsiders (the merchant didn't even know that the Founders exist) and how they try to gain more knowledge about the Alpha quadrant. Star Fleet has also run "simulations" after Siskos first contact and decided to send him on a diplomatic mission.

Walter Crockett

Glad you liked the episodes Jen ! Did you notice the new Com-Badges, They make their first appearance in this episode.

Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

Sleek new ship, sleek new commbadges. And when you go back and edit, J, have a peep at who's directing this one also. I'm going to look for more opportunities to say "Don't you Tasha Yar me" in real life😆

Summer

So can we pause a moment and be happy there was a Romulannand Ferengi on a Federation ship and war didn’t break out. Love Odo saying being an outsider gives one a unique perspective when you rewatch knowing it is one of those things….

TheADHDOverlord

PEAK Reaction when that Needle Drops and the real music starts

Sykonee

Part 1 is about as perfect a season opener as you could hope for, introducing so many new things carrying forward while settling long running ones. Rene was actually worried about Odo finding his people so soon, thinking it would ruin one of the character's core traits. Instead, it launched a new road of conflict by making them the leaders of the new Big Bad. Part 2 is... Well, it's not so bad on a second watch, catching all the little 'it's not real' clues lurking about (love the Ben-Jake dinner scene).

Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

All this talk about how much better S3 is, including my own, has mostly been about writing. But we should shout out the acting too. The characters have more fleshed out personalities, the actors are more comfortable with themselves etc And it works out very well with Sisko. All the talk about how he's finally becoming more passionate about something after his wife passed and this is definitely the most passionate we've seen him so far. The scene storming up to Nechayev might be Sisko/AB's best yet. Speaking of passionate lots of love for Odo/RA. Lots of great scenes with him also and being able to bring so much emotion through all that prosthetic makeup is double tough.

Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

It's so weird and yet also very satisfying seeing our station crew working at starship-style controls.

Julian San

I’ve watched this reaction four times now. Can’t get enough!

Turnt SNACO

There's absolutely nothing wrong with the first two seasons of this show - it's just that it gets so incredibly good, they can only been seen as the weakest by comparison. This show is a rare gem in the fact that it truly only gets better and better until the end - rather than peaking in the middle and slumping off before the end like a lot of shows, even TNG. Also, it's one of those things where, if you wanted to go back and watch all of the episodes relevant to the overall arcing central plot of the entire show, you could probably count on one hand, definitely two, the number of episodes from the first two seasons which would be considered "essential viewing". Most of them are fairly throwaway plots with maybe some minor character development or new exposition here or there. But the further in you get, starting around here, there are more constant threads between episodes rather than each feeling more like its own distinct story, there are significantly less episodes to skip on a "core story" rewatch. So, it's less that the first two seasons are bad or disliked, and more that they just have very little to do with the story explored in the rest of the seasons.

Summer

Voyager would not start in airdate order till after episode 12 of DS9, season 3, which in this schedule would be mid December, but Jen has decided to watch DS9 singularly so she can mourish it then mourish Voyager. I do think she will love the music and characters of Voyager. She could finish season 3 of DS9 near the end of January if all goes well.

Steve Lloyd

Some really good 2-parters coming up. Really looking forward to it

Summer

One issue, if you build a super powerful warship you plan to take it into battle you should have a decent sick bay. In addition as I mentioned some characters were so different in the Dominion deception, like at the beginning of it with O’Brien being beyond chipper as if he hadn’t been looking for them. So many little things when you watch it for a fifteenth, sixteenth and seveneenth time in three days. Kira is so supportive of Odo, like Jen.

Nathan Cline

i TAKE the Defiant to basically be a proto-type that had been shelved. Sisko knew about it though from having worked on it. Multiple instances going forward that indicate they added a multittude of upgrades themselves. Sickbay would be a low priority to outfit on a quite small test ship.

Summer

Agreed, just hits as underplanned. And even that original one on the dDefiant is better than the blank in blank, you know

Summer

I do wonder if Sisko maybe ‘protected’ Odo and Kira from starfleet’s displeasure too much, maybe he should have explained these issues more before he had to show up with Mr. Eddington because it does feel a touch sudden. It strikes me this was more because of plot than actually reasoning how Sisko might have run things the first two seasons.

Guy Incognito

@William R.: You're absolutely right. Thank you for correcting me. Gamma comes before Delta 😅.

Bobby Coolbreeze

As it’s been said this was a prototype. However this being classified a “Escort vessel” ( Pure warship) it’s also implied that its primary role above all else is just that. Minimal everything else, like cramped quarters, some science equipment if any, and what Bashir laughingly called a sickbay, probably a triage station?

Bobby Coolbreeze

Funny i never noticed they had the new com-badges the first time around way back when it first aired. I just assumed they got them later on in the season? I can’t believe I missed that!

Summer

That works, I suppose he could have been referring to anything thats not triage gear is missing, they had so few there likely there would not be many basic cases this time. Just tricky, if anyone here ever designs a ship, remember to plan sickbay for injuries

Lee

What is "mourish"? The definition I got from google made no sense in this context.

Clay F

Two great episodes.

Kristin

I think actually "more-ish" would be a good translation, meaning, "I want more".

Tyrone Tyrone

I wonder if he got it at Garak's shop🤔

Andrew Skow

We saw the USS Pegasus in TNG 7x12; the one with Riker and his old captain. The federation has at least one working cloaking device of their own design.

Matt O'Keefe

Yes Odo finds his people and they are assholes(the bad guys). Maybe justifiably so according to their experiences. They are just prejudiced against the "solids"(us). They rule the gamma quadrant with a violent group of soldiers that everyone fears (for good reason).

Eric Rinehart

I'm having some issues on Patreon with saying I don't have access to full length sometimes

Listening Man

"We should all fight together against the dominion ... even the Romulans." Sometimes foreshadowing is relatively obvious.
