This one was so cool! Just a straight up into-the-body-adventure with classic practical effects. I thought they did a lot with what they were working with and I know if I'd seen this as a kid it would've dazzled me! Very unique score too! Any other movies like this we should check out?

Ian

Really looking forward to this one like so many judging by how much it's been requested 🔥 love the super striking thumbnail and your wonderful expression just perfect 👌 . Journey to the center of the earth would be a cool one for you to check out 👍

Dylan

Jen’s been killing it with classic sci-fis as of late. I can’t wait to watch this one with you, keep up the awesome work Jen 🔥

Matt

Fantastic, this is another classic that Futurama references so you'll know when you get to it 😊

Harvey Lee

As obvious as this is FANTASTIC that you reacted to this Jen 😄🤘 This movie sparked an early interest in Anatomy for me and certainly added to my love of practical effects I will find an ideal time to embark on this Fantastic Voyage !!😄✊🙏

Rob Nichols

Can't wait to see this one! The music is by Leonard Rosenman, who did Star Trek IV The Voyage Home. Director Richard Fleisher also directed 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, Disney's first live action feature. Harper Goff, who designed the Nautilus for 20,000 Leagues also designed the Proteus for Voyage. This was the first big role for Raquel Welch. Also in the cast is Donald Pleasence from Halloween, Escape From New York and The Great Escape. Many of the set pieces and sound effects were reused in shows like Lost In Space and Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea.

Greg In East TN

ROFL Most guys don't read past Raquel Welch though. ;)

Rod

I didn't actually see the movie until a couple of years after it came out, but in 1966 our 6th grade teacher read the book to us a chapter or two a day as we came back to the classroom to cool off after lunch recess.

Joseph H Searles

If you would like another 1960's era Cold War thriller then I recommend Ice Station Zebra.

Jen Murray

Donald Pleasence will always be Blofeld to me!

Rob Nichols

I felt like I missed one LOL

Curran Dobbs

Secret Science Bunker would be a good name for a band.

Jason Scade

Fantastic Viewing (choice).

The Fly

The classic sci-fi I would recommend most is WHEN WORLD'S COLLIDE (1951)

aspectsAK

If you haven't already seen it check out the movie "Colossus: The Forbin Project" (1970). Especially with the rise of AI computing in recent times.

Joe R

James Cameron keeps saying he is going to remake this movie and is currently working on it. I'm sure it would be awesome.

Mark Chrisco

There was an extended ending where the scientist was recovering and was expected to share the secret to extend the time of miniturization, but, because of the brain damage, he could no longer remember it. The studio thought this was somewhat of a downer and edited it down to its current conclusion.

Mark Chrisco

I would love tlo see his take on When Worlds Collide.

Michael G. Munz

Did you catch James Doohan's small role as the hypothermia technician? 😃

Michael G. Munz

"I WAS IN THE POOL!! I WAS IN THE POOL!!"

Rod

Great reaction as usual Jen! I pretty figured beforehand you would like this movie. I don't recall you reacting to "The Incredible Shrinking Man" from 1957, which watching this reaction made me think of. If you haven't seen it, I'm sure you would like it. Also, you asked what a frogman is. Navy frogmen were members of an underwater demolition team during WWII and the Korean War. They were the early predecessors of today's Navy Seals. My dad was a navy frogman during the Korean War.

Major Peril

So stoked! Can hardly wait to see this reaction. 😃 Special mention for two similar you should absolutely see: - The Andromeda Strain (1971) - 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (1954) Some others from around the same era: - 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) - Village of the Damned (1960) - First Men in the Moon (1964) - The Time Machine (1960) - Mysterious Island (1961) - Robinson Crusoe on Mars (1964)

Rob Nichols

The Andromeda Strain is leading the current poll, and Jen has done 2001 and Time Machine.

Major Peril

DOH ! I see that now. Nevermind...

Rob Nichols

James Brolin also has a small part, I've never been able to spot either of them.

Michael G. Munz

I spotted (mostly from his voice) Doohan, near the beginning, but he's only seen on a little blue screen in the control room when they ask the hypothermia status.

Matt

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea 1954 🙏🙏🙏

Matt

Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind 1984

Ian

Many of these suggestions are already on Jen's request site like land of the giants 1965 that I added myself a few months back so be sure to head over there and upvote all the ones you like www.jenmurrayxo.com

Rob Nichols

I just finished watching it and I did spot him this time. Still didn't spot Brolin.

Major Peril

ELEVATE ZERO MODULE. Man, that thing was getting a workout! Great to see this one again, and what an excellent reaction. 😃 Glad you’re really getting into these vintage films. Let’s keep it going with some more, please!

Matt

Richard Fleischer was also the director of Soylent Green

Thadman

Man, that general with the sugar addiction was MVP. He just guesstimated about what happened to them and was exactly right. All that sugar had his synapses working overtime, I guess. "SOMEBODY, GET ME SOME TWIZZLERS, STAT!"

Bammer

A "frogman" is a person trained for underwater operations, originally a term for WWII naval divers (UDT), now often used for military combat swimmers (like Navy SEALs) or specialized police divers, distinguished by gear like masks, fins, and air supply for covert missions.

Gary Cameron

Robinson Crusoe on Mars is remarkably good for the time - sort of a 60s version of The Martian

Bammer

Hard yes to Robinson Crusoe on Mars.

Darryl Low

"Prepare for re-biggification" 😄 This was so much fun to watch with you Jen. I love watching all these classic movies with you. You really do transport yourself back to when they first came out and have respect and appreciation for what they did at the time. There's so many great classic sci-fi movies for you to check out and enjoy - It Came From Outer Space, The Incredible Shrinking Man, Invaders From Mars, This Island Earth, Robinson Crusoe on Mars, to name but a few. Thanks for another awesome reaction today Jen 😊

Gary Cameron

It's been a very long time since I watched this movie; I'd forgotten how good it was. The novel based on the movie was written by Isaac Asimov.

The Fly

A poll of movies based on the novels of Jules Verne would be great I watched Master of the World last Easter and, even though it's got a low score on IMDB, loved it

Jessie Caldwell

I saw this at the Drive-In when it first came out. I would recommend you watch First Men In The Moon, Harryhausen period/modern sci-fi. It too has a lot of practical effects, plus stop motion, and ADVENTURE.
