Awesome thumbnail Jen your gasp look is brilliant as is your description it just makes me want to click play even more 🔥🔥

You nailed it with the early Pon Farr reference. And yeah not only is that the song from Amok Time where Kirk and Spock fight but the weapons Fry has the option to use, the two he doesn’t pick are the two Vulcan weapons they use in that episode.

Hi all. I've not been able to follow along with any Futurama yet due to the NTSC / PAL frame rate variation that sometimes causes syncing issues. I've heard I need to play my copy at a play back rate of 0.9591 to Jen's 1.0 and it will stay in sync. Does anyone know of any media players that let you customize the playback speed with such fine tuning? Many thanks! :)

Gary Cameron

I've been waiting for you to watch the first Zoid-centric episode! He is such a fantastic character, though somewhat underappreciated ("Ya crazy lobster!")

EmptyDice

I use MPC-BE on windows and MPV on Linux. Both can adjust framerate based on audio or video, both have much better upscaling than VLC. I personally use framegen to double the framerate, then sync it based on audio. There is also Handbrake than can convert the files before being played. Edit: After looking it up, Handbrake can't do it without dropping frames and it doesn't do it cleanly. MKVToolNix or FFMpeg can do it but they are both advanced software with limited graphical interfaces.

EmptyDice

There's also a multitude of proprietary softwares that can do it more "easily". They can be found with the Google search 'convert pal to ntsc' however I wouldn't recommend any of them.

Gary Cameron

It took me years to realize that the scene where Edna "kisses" Fry is a parody of the "face hugger" from Alien!

Gary Cameron

Mine is NTSC and syncs fine. I'm assuming you have PAL?

Darryl Low

You can also tweak the custom speed of Jen's reaction playing on Youtube to run slightly fast so that it runs at the same speed as PAL DVD. Ideally 1.04 is what you need but YT won't do that increment. Set it to 1.05 speed and it should be pretty close. You may need to pause it a couple of times.

Curran Dobbs

The sign at the gym you missed said "Windowless rooms available for ugly exercisers."

Jen, you're going to LOVE next week's episode Raging Bender. I have a link where the files I believe are 29.97 frame rate and the YouTube ones are 23.98. Or vice versa. Anyway, have to quickly hit pause and play usually at a scene change to keep up with the drift. Pain in the rump but it’s worth it for me to watch along. wcoflix.tv/anime/futurama-season-1/?season=all

With Jen's reaction playing on YouTube right click on the video then click ' inspect '. Then go to the console tab in the new window that pops up type in document.querySelector('video'). playbackRate = 1.0426 then hit enter and the syncing should be spot on

agreed it's been ages since i've done a rewatch, and watching along with jen has made for a better experience i think.

Oh if I had a penny for every time I was called an inferior male specimen.

@EmptyDice Thank you, I'll try MCE-BE. And I really appreciate all the other advice and suggestions you mentioned! :D

Jason Scade

@Gary Cameron Hi friend. Yes, buddy. PAL here, mate. :P

Jason Scade

@Ian Oh, that sounds like just the thing! Thank you, Ian! :D 🍻 I'll give that a shot, soon.

Jason Scade

@Darryl Low Thank you. :)

Animation can be hard for me to watch, eye issues, but these reactions are making me consider it.

Jason McQuirns

Smooth intro this time! I was ready for multiple takes but you proved me wrong.

TheADHDOverlord

btw - the Captions on Disney+ list the National Anthem as [Star Trek Battle Music]

Stephen Dias

Yes, Jen finally got her Zoidberg backstory! "Maybe it's like Pon Farr." Called it! They got the music from "Amok Time" and everything. I won't spoil anything, but Zoidberg does eventually get a love story, which I was happy to see.

Thats not the monolith from 2001. Its the monolith from 2010.
