“The Andromeda Strain” has my vote for the most graphic G-rated movie ever. Also loved the reaction Jen! 🔥

Ian

Amazing thumbnail Jen 😀 you look tense as heck and well it's that kinda movie , brilliant stuff 🙂🔥 had only seen the 4 part mini series until I watched this along with you unfortunately goldfish memory means I forget how they differ lol but this was a good one 👍🙂

Robert Cooper

I have watched this movie about a zillion times. It's a good movie, but for some reason this is like a warm blanket.

Stephen Malloy

This film creeped out the thirteen year old me like no other sci-fi movie.

Darryl Low

This was certainly a gripping reaction Jen. I've remembered another 70s sci-fi movie that is very scientific in approach and has a similar vibe to this movie and it's called Phase IV. Excited to watch your edit for this movie 😊

I kept thinking about this movie when I went out for groceries during the worst of COVID

Stephen Malloy

The possibility of an infection from space was a genuine concern. The first three Apollo moon landing crews were quarantined for 21 days in a sealed container.

To film the monkey scene they replaced it's oxygen with Carbon dioxide and immediately switched it back after it passed out. It looked pretty horrible but didn't actually hurt it.

Ken Schneyer

Great reaction, Jen! I read the book too, and yes, the film is a very faithful adaptation. I agree with your assessment that this is “hard“ science-fiction with a capital H. Interestingly, I’m speaking at a panel this weekend discussing the upcoming film adaptation of the novel “Project Hail Mary“. A lot of that novel is about scientific research and procedure, and part of the question is how that will be portrayed and film. I intend to use this film as an example.

Jen Murray

Project Hail Mary was my fav book of 2021 by a mile!! I cried!

Gary Cameron

When I was in high school, I asked my microbiology teacher to show this in class. He did, and I loved it - totally fascinated me. One of the great hard-science movies. I also thought about this movie during COVID.

Gary Cameron

All the lab equipment in this movie was real. That adds so much to the feel.

Nate Gavin

You would love Michael Crichton's Sphere Jen

Carlos Stevens

Yes it was... the lasers were real too, though they weren't high powered enough to do real damage.

Carlos Stevens

No monkeys (or rats) were harmed in the making of this movie. PETA supervised everything.

Carlos Stevens

heh... did you ever watch Colossus: The Forbin Project? and now we're dealing with A.I.

Joseph Krider

Just watched your YouTube reaction. (I'm) technologically challenged, and have never been able to get the sound synched right, no what how hard I try). I read the book back when it came out. Then when the movie came out, I was pleasantly surprised that the movie really brought the book to life. Here's an interesting article (well, interesting to a nerd like me) that talks about the split-field diopter lens techniques used in the movie, as well as the care that was taken to insure that none of the animals were harmed. https://ascmag.com/articles/the-andromeda-strain-may-1971
