2026-10-07 05:00 The NeverEnding Story that movie always makes me cry.
2026-04-06 23:07

Thomas Yanez

You, me and the rest of Gen-X.

Brian Straight

To me those are all just OK movies, none of them I've watched in this century. The better one of them that I remember is Never Ending Story.

Jen Murray

Doesn't have to be just 1 choice. You can vote for ANY. Any that get 200+ votes will be watched

Thomas Yanez

At the moment, "The NeverEnding Story" is winning the vote, so I need to spend some time getting myself ready for that emotional nut punch.

Chad K

You'd be the first person I've ever heard of say that about TNES

Starpartyguy

Dune from back then was a production mess but for me still pulled it off. The story carried the movie, even if the director, or directors, made it more confusing than it should have been.

Major Peril

All in for The NeverEnding Story (1984), but would love a reaction to Starman (1984) most, and also Witness (1985). 😃

Marc Peterson

Harrison Ford and Kelly McGillis fabulous in this detective thriller set in Pennsylvania Dutch country. Witness.

Starpartyguy

Witness was filmed 20 miles south of my town. So there’s that.

Matt O'Keefe

Not all of Gen X. I am of that generation(born in '75) and I do not think it is that great or good (when I was 9 I enjoyed it but not now) .

HeWhoLooksSkyward

Starman is a much overlooked gem. Jen would absolutely love that one.

Brian Straight

Of her choices there that's probably the best one as it is pretty popular. I honestly don't remember that well, but it's good. Reaction videos for it are common.

Brian Straight

Not meaning it like that. Wasn't trying to hurt you.

rubberkidney

EZ. La la la la la la la la la

ellis

Blood Simple (Coen Bros debut) is underrated - certainly in this poll so far. After Three Amigos, I know The Man With Two Brains and Fletch would be hits, hope they make it through at some point.

Joe J

Dune 84. Yeah baby!

thansen

The Neverending Story is a timeless story I think all ages can enjoy and so is the novel. I was lucky enough to get the Imprint large edition of that.

Darryl Low

I love Witness. So atmospheric with the locale and the score. And it's the only time Harrison Ford got nominated for an Academy Award. It's a crime! 😔

Elliot

A childhood favorite of mine and Jen would absolutely love it.

Elliot

Great movie. Preferred it to the remakes. Especially the Harkonen leader.

Elliot

The NetherEnding story and Dune are my picks. Such classics. Jen will really love The NeverEnding Story.

Elliot

I wish Krull would get a go. My favorite fantasy from this era.

thansen

If Dune does get over that magic 200 number I hope it's the extended version. I have never seen it and this would be a good excuse.

Bryan Tuck

STARMAN is a lovely, underrated movie that I think you'd really enjoy. :) Also - if you watch BRAZIL, be aware that there are a few different versions out there. There's the US cut (2 hrs 12 mins), and the European cut (2 hrs 22 mins), and those are probably the only versions you're going to find for streaming/digital anywhere. And honestly either one is probably fine for a first-time viewing; just need to know which one to sync up with! There's also the Criterion "director's cut," which is almost identical to the European cut except for the opening, and then what's known as the "Love Conquers All" version, but those are both only available in the Criterion UHD/Blu-ray/DVD sets. I doubt you'll find them streaming anywhere, and that's probably just as well, as the latter should definitely never be anyone's first experience with this film. :)

Joe Blankenship

Only one really stands out for me is Neverending Story, of course. The classic that you should've seen as a kid. Fletch doesn't really do it for me. I know people love it, but not me.

Vina

If you do end up watching The Neverending Story, make sure it’s the US/International version not the German one. No shade on the latter but the former one was edited by Spielberg who tightened up the editing, and not to mention some extra bad effects were replaced

Clay F

Starman (1984) and Witness (1985) are by far my top 2 choices. Both excellent. I also voted Blood Simple and Brazil. I might watch the reaction to Fletch if reaches 200 votes.

RobertC

Fingers crossed for Brazil... and please watch Villeneuve's Dune Pt 2 before Lynch's 1984 Dune.

Matt

Brazil would be awesome but any of these I'd be happy

Elliot

Oh damn. I joined your patreon in March :) Choose it for yourself Jen. Magnificent fantasy and one you will never forget. Best of that era (1983). I also added it to requests around that time. I see it got 133 votes back then. So close

Matt

Definitely watch new Dune part 2 before David Lynch one

2026-09-06 01:00 The never-ending story is an example of false advertising. After seeing in the theater, I requested a refund.
2026-04-07 01:03

Jason Scade

Good selections here. :D My personal favorites are Blood Simple (the Coen Bros 1st movie), Fletch (superb, Chevy Chase on top form) and Brazil is Terry Gilliam's magnum opus. It's on hard drive #1.

Kristin

Neverending story is generally considered a great fantasy movie. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy it. It's one of my favorites.

Kristin

Agreed!!

Byrd N. Hand

Hopefully she also watches "Fletch Lives."

Byrd N. Hand

I think I might actually like "Fletch Lives" more -- perhaps because I saw it first, before I even knew of the original. 🤷‍♂️

Byrd N. Hand

I voted for everything except "Dune" (i.e. David Lynch's weakest film), so, yeah, it's not bad (and makes up for last week's poll, where I only voted for one title).

John DiGiantomasso

If you haven't seen it, Starman has one if the finest acting performances in the Title Role I have EVER SEEN. An amazing film I know Jen will adore. PLEASE do me a favor and vote for it so it gets 200. Trust me - you will be glad you did! 🫡

Look out, Arbogast!

Pleasantly surprised at the love (and votes!) Starman is getting. Such a wonderfully rewatchable film.

Jeff Franz

And here I thought your lawyer was Lionel Hutz.

Kristin

Jen will love Starman!

Elliot

Need to work on you sarcasm. Especially when its written down. :)

Kristin

Oh! The joke did not translate through text.

KBH27

Fletch is a must watch. Can we at least get the vote to 200?

KBH27

Charge it to the Underhills

Kane

Wow I guess people have never seen Blood Simple? The first Coen Bros movie, Francis McDormand is incredible as always. It's not my favorite movie or anything but shocked that it's last.

mikethemotormouth

Personally, my second favorite Coen Bros after Burn After Reading

SavageDiplomat

You really shouldn't watch the old Dune movie before you watch Dune Part 2. The old movie tells the entire story that Dune part 1 and 2 encompasses. So you will basically be spoiled on the plot of Dune Part 2.

Toc

Great movie, should have way, way more votes. One of the best on the poll. How embarrassing! Some of these people need to put down the Lebowski and No Country For O Brothers and watch a real Coen Brothers movie!!!! :P

Toc

(love Burn After Reading as well!) (ALSO with Frances McDormand!)

Erik Lundmark

Once again, the best movie ever made has made it to a poll; I hope I hope I hope ---

DrJonasVenture

Blood Simple is definitely my favorite on the list.

Erik Lundmark

I watched the movie first, at 7yo, and read the book at 9yo, I love both. The book is one of the best I've ever read, still read it quite often. But.... If I'd read the book when I was older, and then watched the movie, I would have also wanted my money back. The movie is Not the book, and it does leave the most important message(s) by the wayside. Still a good 80's fantasy though, on it's own. Some of the best practical effects in the business, which was (for anyone who doesn't know) a production of Germany. Filmed partially in Canada.

Brando83

It's the Coen Brothers! What else needs to be said?

jon bolton

I like Starman and Witness. I've seen a few others on the list but they aren't my type of films.

jon bolton

Good to see an 80s poll. My favourite movie decades are 70s, 80s, and 90s.

Batguano

That's kind of my worry. Great as a kid but will it stand up at all without that nostalgia

KBH27

Fletch, Witness and Blood Simple are the best on this list

Rick Rodriguez

Says Happy Birthday on the movie request site. HAPPY BIRTHDAY JEN!!!!!

Jake McNulty

Brazil is an underrated gem! It's my No.1 film request for every reaction channel I subscribe to! I'm also voting for Neverending Story, Man with Two Brains, Starman, Blood Simple and Witness while I'm at it.

Allen Porter

I'll vote for anything with Steve Martin in it, because "I'm a wild and crazy guy".

Byrd N. Hand

Not to mention it has the Limahl title song over the opening credits.

Byrd N. Hand

"Barton Fink," "A Serious Man," and "Inside Llewyn Davis" need more love.

TigerMyth

Looks like nostalgia will win this one. I'm surprised witness has so much support and I guess a lot of folks probably don't even know Blood Simple is early Coen Brothers.

Scaredy-cat

Brazil is my favourite movie. I doubt it will win the poll but I'm kind of happy just seeing it on the poll. One of those Producer-people have great taste. It features Jonathan Pryce (too seldom the protagonist) (Ronin/Tomorrow Never Dies), Robert De Niro (Ronin), Bob Hoskins (Who Framed Roger Rabbit), Ian Holm (Alien, Lord of the Rings) and Michael Palin (of Monty Python fame). Happy birthday Jen!

Kragnar

Man with 2 Brains. 🤣🤣 Steve Martin deep cut!!

Kragnar

Quite so. THX. Voting now.

Erik Lundmark

Plus, the "Love Conquers All" version is a mess, avoid at all cost

Thomas Yanez

Having read the Fletch books, I actually kinda hate the Chevy Chase "Fletch" movies. Hoping for another adaptation some day.

Long-time Sci-Fi Enthusiast

Happy Birthday Jen !! Hope you have a wonderful Birthday week because a Day is not enough. :)

Byrd N. Hand

"The Jerk" is still his best movie, IMO, but I'll still go for almost anything else he was in during this period.

Byrd N. Hand

There are plenty of movies Jen has reacted to that she's ended up enjoying without the advantage of nostalgia goggles. I have no doubt "The NeverEnding Story" will be another one (for the record, I was never traumatized by that one scene, nor do I know anyone else from my age who was 🤷‍♂️).

Lee

I like "Roxanne" and "L.A. Story" more, but to each his own.

To Wa

Dune needs 2 more votes to reach 200! Witness needs 29!

Kristen

I wish these polls did better, we could have multiples each week. I feel like people are stubborn and will only vote for their personal favourite and refuse to consider anything else 🫤

To Wa

Dune is about to pass 200. Witness and Starman aren't far behind.

Rob Bob

Starman (makes a good double feature with K-Pax, btw)

Vina

Not sure how I feel about platforming a Kevin Spacey movie, but it's Jen's call

Elliot

I like this poll. Not very often my 3 choices are top 3 :) NeverEnding story, Dune and Starman. 4 days left, Dune should make the 200 and hopefully Starman gets up there.

Elliot

People still listen to Michael the pedo Jackson. You can appreciate their good work still.

Elliot

4 days left and 3 votes now. Should be fine. I want Starman to get another 21 votes

Elliot

Does he have a funny movie? Ive yet to see one.

Elliot

I'm sad Krull isnt in there. Such a great movie

Elliot

Many of us grew up with the old Dune. Didnt spoil the remakes except the modern Harkonen boss is a bit of a pansy.

Erik Lundmark

... it's Bridges And Spacey, for one ... plus, don't confuse the artist with the art, especially in a movie with hundreds of people involved in it :-/ That said, you do you :-)

Summer

I was just on the request site and trying to fathom how in the world EverAfter 1998 only has 4 votes, guys you have to go to the site, type in EverAfter just like that and vote

Byrd N. Hand

Yeah, judging a piece of art/entertainment by the person who made it (or someone who participated in it) is basically like you being judged based on who your parents are, IMO. 🤷‍♂️

Byrd N. Hand

Plenty of reactors have nonetheless highly enjoyed it as adults. It doesn't strike me as a movie one would easily outgrow when reaching a certain age... like, say, "Teen Wolf." 🤷‍♂️

Geoff S.

Jen will enjoy some of the weirdness in Dune. The soundtrack by rock band Toto is actually really great and different for a sci fi movie. Jen, two great Chevy Chase romantic comedies are Foul Play and Seems Like Old Times, both with co star Goldie Hawn.

Byrd N. Hand

I find it almost sacrilegious that Jen still hasn't seen most of Robert De Niro's biggest movies; no "Mean Streets," "Godfather II," "Taxi Driver," "The Deer Hunter," "Raging Bull," "The King of Comedy," "Once Upon a Time in America," "Midnight Run," "Awakenings," or "Wag the Dog." 🤔

Byrd N. Hand

I personally don't find any mainstream comedy from the 21st century funny. Different strokes, I guess. 🤷‍♂️

Byrd N. Hand

Didn't they just do a new version with Jon Hamm?

Byrd N. Hand

Yes, more '80s fantasies would be nice: "Dragonslayer," "The Secret of NIMH," "The Last Unicorn," "The Dark Crystal," "Krull," "Ladyhawke," "Legend," "Labyrinth," and "Willow."

Byrd N. Hand

The latter 2 are both less than 25 votes away from that magic number with 3 days to go. They definitely have a chance... and hopefully they *do* make it. 🤞

Summer

Are they on the request site?

Bryan Tuck

I think since Jen has already watched Villeneuve's DUNE PART 1, I agree it might be better to go ahead and see his PART 2 before watching the old one. But to be fair, since the new one changed so much about the ending, there would still be a few surprises there. :) Between the 1984 movie, the 2000 TV miniseries, and the 2020s two-parter, it's interesting seeing which parts of the novel different filmmakers chose to focus on.

Bryan Tuck

I'm not sure if it's accurate to say that Spielberg "edited" the international version. I've always read that he gave Petersen some suggestions, which he more or less followed. Either way, I do prefer the international cut, but that may be because it's what I saw as a kid. :)

Joe J

Hollywood is full of people "accused" of many things. Everyone is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Spacey was never found guilty of any crimes.

Summer

One vote has been added but there is no excuse for there to be less than 200 votes for EverAfter

DrJonasVenture

I love Dune but I wouldn’t necessarily call it a good representation of Lynch’s work. You should still check out something like Blue Velvet or Mulholland Drive even if Dune isn’t your cup of tea.

Byrd N. Hand

Those, the 2 "Fletch" movies, and "Funny Farm" are pretty much the only other Chevy Chase movies Jen needs to see, IMO.

Geoff S.

Spies Like Us or no?

Thomas Malley

Be warned that the never ending story only tells the setup of the book, not the actual payoff.

Toc

Dune is a piece of a crap. Poor Jen. The mediocrity vote wins again. What's more hilarious/pathetic/embarrassing is that there are two way-more superior sci-fi movies on that poll. From the 80s no less, that dopey decade everyone pretends to love but just never seem to know what was good about it! Brazil is one of the great movies of the 80s; Dune is one of the worst. Amazing how dumbed down audiences got post-Star Wars. Unbelievable.

Summer

Here is the thing, if on this vote thing so many can reach 200 or near there, EverAfter and more should have 200 votes on the request site

Byrd N. Hand

I finally saw "Spies Like Us" in its entirety last year, and, yeah, it's not very good. The one amusing thing about it was all the cameos by various directors, including Terry Gilliam, Joel Coen, and Sam Raimi. Of course, I've never cared for "Three Amigos," either. 🤷‍♂️

Byrd N. Hand

And let's be honest: it's really only gained more traction in recent years because of these new movies.

Ron

I think Jen would like The Elephant Man.

DrJonasVenture

Elephant Man is great but, like Dune, it was a project that he directed that was already developed. Mel Brooks hired him to direct. I always prefer the ones that he wrote or co-wrote.

Rob Nichols

Starman made it, and Witness is a sure thing too. You're not gonna watch these all the same week are ya?

Jen Murray

No I'll watch them asap on upcoming schedules, prob in rough order of votes (I like to mix up decade on the schedule if I can!)

Jen Murray

Very happy to see multiple movies getting over 200 votes!! You guys rule!!!

Clay F

I was thinking the same.

Clay F

Starman (1984) surpassed 200 votes. Awesome. Witness (1985) (Harrison Ford, Danny Glover) [RT 94%] only needs 6 more votes.

Clay F

Dune (1984) [IMDb 6.2, RT 36%] Brazil (1985) [IMDb 7.8, RT 98%] Yeah, shocking (a travesty?) that Dune (1984) received more votes than Brazil. I wonder if some patrons thought they were voting for the newer Dune?

Geoff S.

Man I wish Two Brains had done better. It’s hysterical and one of my favorite comedies. Dirty Rotten should probably watched first but still. And The Jerk

Vincent

I believe, JM would enjoy The Man w/2 Brains & Fletch

To Wa

The "200 threshold" is a wonderful feature of these polls! Looking forward to reactions to Dune, Witness & Starman!

Clay F

There is not a ton of participation at the Request Site. I've seen that with other reactors who have a request site. The poll ranking (i.e., how the movies finish in a poll) is often different than their relative ranking at the request site.

Clay F

WITNESS (1985) nominated for 8 Oscars including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor (Harrison Ford), Best Cinematography. --Won Oscars for Best Screenplay and Best Original Score. WITNESS is highly entertaining. "A wonderfully entertaining thriller within an unusual setting, with Harrison Ford delivering a surprisingly emotive and sympathetic performance."

Summer

Yes its true, its just sad that people aren’t going to the request site

Clay F

I been a patron with Jen since 2023. I used to often suggest to our fellow patrons here to go to the request site.

Byrd N. Hand

I enjoy it, too, though it's probably the weakest of the 4 Steve Martin/Carl Reiner collaborations (the others being "The Jerk," "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid," and "All of Me," which I'd also likely rank in that order). I'm probably more disappointed that "Blood Simple" is dead last (not including the 'None of the above' option). It's not among the Coen Brothers' best, but it definitely made for an auspicious debut.

Byrd N. Hand

This doesn't mean no other polls over the next few weeks, does it? 🤔

Joe J

1985, getting way back in the rear-view mirror now. Kelly McGillis was still a babe then.

Byrd N. Hand

Also features a young Viggo Mortensen, of course.

Rob Nichols

C'mon Witness, just three to go.

Ian

i dont vote generally but as quite a few want this to get to 200 and jen ofc loves harrison ford im making an exception so now just 1 needed

Rob Nichols

Made it in the last hour, thank you whoever made that last vote.

Clay F

Yesssss

Clay F

I am very much looking forward to Starman and Witness.

Clay F

Thanks Ian and everyone who voted.

To Wa

Did Witness and Starman make it? I can only see percentages. This is like watching the results on election night when it's a nail-biter. #200pollsrule

Timo Turunen

Oh no the bad ones went over 200 and the good ones lost :( Damn mainstream lameness ruining all the react channels.

Clay F

The last place "Blood Simple" (1984) (the first feature film by the Coen brothers) (starring a young pretty Frances McDormand) is good.

Kragnar

Have a younger cousin. When he was very young every time he come over he wanted to watch The Neverending Story. So it literally became the neverending story for me. 40-some-years later can't wait to watch it again.
