Darryl Low

I'm excited to watch another awesome Jen reaction while I have my dinner. This is such a cool movie. Very imaginative and clever in it's use of effects and sets. And it definitely sticks the landing with that final scene 😮😢

Darryl Low

Fun Fact Jen : The doctor who first examines Scott is played by William Schallert. He also played Martin Short's doctor in Innerspace 😊

Rob Nichols

You need the PAL version.

Rob Nichols

He was also the ambulance medic caring for the little girl in Them.

Rob Nichols

This is gunna be so cool, thanks for doing this one. For more shrinking the first example I can think of is The Bride Of Frankenstein, then Dr. Cyclops.

Oh Jen. I really felt for you when that one villain showed up, I thought you were very brave tbf. Also this was written by Richard Matheson who wrote The Omega Man (I Am Legend) plus a number of stories for Twilight Zone episodes. This one even felt like a Twilight Zone episode - introduction to a guy, something very unusual happens to him, bold existential ending, and even panning up to the stars at the end.

zynjams

also Patty Duke's father in the Patty Duke show and a teacher in the Dobie Gillis show in the early 60s

zynjams

in the Bride of Frankenstein there is a whole seen with miniature characters, 1935, Le Voyage de Gulliver 1902 is earliest I found with tiny people

John DiGiantomasso

William Schallert was also the Federation Undersecretary for Agricultural Affairs Nilz Baris in The Trouble With Tribbles that drove Kirk crazy!

Gary Cameron

And Neils Barris, Federation Undersecretary for Agriculture in "The Trouble With Tribbles"!

Gary Cameron

Story by Richard Matheson! He also authored "I Am Legend", the basis for "The Omega Man", plus an episode of Star Trek, TOS, and a DOZEN episodes of The Twilight Zone!

Ian

Well I know which part the thumbnail pose comes from now holy moly I wasn't expecting that a woodlice would have been frightening enough but you did great Jen you were horrified and scared as frig but you got through it so awesome job Jen . That ending though I really wasn't expecting that at all as you said " that was dark " sure was . Great reaction as always Jen you always deliver excellence 🔥🙌

thansen

I guess I never thought of the ending as dark. I found it kinda uplifting.

BND

He ended up in the quantum realm

Gary Cameron

I found myself laughing at Jen's reaction - but it was nervous laughter because I too am an arachnophobe. So, yah, I feel you.

John DiGiantomasso

While you were worried about the spider coming back, my thoughts were "What if that's a Momma spider?" Also, if you want to see a NICE spider story in an attempt to calm your fears check out the animated Charlotte's Web (1973). It's very sweet. (I did not see the 2006 remake.)

Mr. Writhms

There was SHRINKAGE! 🫣

When I was a kid they used to show all those 50s sci-fi movies on late night TV on the weekends, and I loved staying up to watch them. I would have been 10 or 12 years old the first time I saw this one. Today I am 62. This movie is the reason I still have serious arachnophobia. The ending is a bit less mystical in Richard Matheson's novel: he expects to just dissolve into nothing but instead finds himself at microscopic size and, with reborn optimism, sets out to explore a whole new world.

Matt

Downsizing 2017 is another good one 😊🤏

JustSomeDude

Knew this would be a tough one for you, Jen. Great job pulling through. Is this the worst large spider movie on the Channel? I know you mentioned in the reaction it was worse than Lotr. How's it compare to Aracnaphonia from a few years ago?

Stephen Dias

Wow. It'd been many, many years since I'd seen this, probably because it doesn't have a happy ending. They try to make it uplifting, I guess; he realizes that even he has a place in the universe. Not my idea of a happy ending, though. Now, I'm really curious about the novel.

Great reaction! As it turns out, Richard Matheson is the writer of the very next Twilight Zone you'll be reacting to... In fact, 4 episodes in Season 1 alone are his scripts. Over the course of TTZ's run in the late 50s-early 60s, 16 episodes were written by Matheson. A number of them are based on his own previously published short stories. A couple of these episodes I would easily put on a top ten TTZ list, even top 5. Matheson also wrote the novel that was adapted into The Omega Man and two other movies. And his writing for TV includes an episode of Star Trek TOS, and the movies The Night Stalker and Spielberg's Duel(based on Matheson's own experience).

The Irish Buddhist

I get the heeby jeeby's every time I see the 8 legged creepy crawly, can't stand them. So you are not alone for sure Jen. Still looking around my room as we speak. Yuck.. Anyway, great reaction, been many years since I've seen this and now I remember why 😉. Still a good movie though.

Harry S

Jen you should watch the TV show Land of the Giants 1968. Men from earth travel to a another planet where everything is giant!

Thadman

I loved watching the giant insect/animal monster movies as a kid. But, ever since I saw the giant tarantula movie called..."Tarantula"😁 I was afraid of the possibility of giant spiders and was creeped out by them because they are really admirable predators (and architects) and I always felt bad for anything that got caught in their webs. The original movie of "The Fly" really put that fear in me also. I'd have a lot of nightmares about big spiders growing up and then a science teacher told me, I think in high school, that they couldn't grow to oversize because their exoskeletons would weigh them down too much and they wouldn't be able to move on such thin legs because gravity would pull them down. If they didn't have exoskeletons, they might be able to move, but the environment would probably kill them. That helped me from getting nightmares, but doesn't help me from still getting creeped out when I see a spider monster movie. I saw one straight-to-SyFy some years ago called "Ice Spiders" and just that concept still gives me the creeps, the willies AND the heebie-jeebies.
