How are we already on 5x12 that's crazy we are flying through this show at maximum warp 🌠

Summer

Happy for Odo

Summer

Remember it was sabatage not the transporters, but we will create better ones

The_Truth

That's Lupaza and Furel from Kira's resistance cell, you met them in Season 3 Episode 24 when Kai Wynn wanted to get those farm reclamators from Shakaar

Curran Dobbs

Heh. This time watching The Begotten in the scene at the beginning where Odo was in the infirmary, they mentioned that after his visit the previous week, relaxing and prune juice helped. It occurred to me what kind of medical issue would be helped by relaxation and prune juice...

Summer

Some midwifery books have said it is best to have the mom as relaxed and unbothered as possible and that produces better birthing process

Henchman Twenty1

Another phenomenal acting job by Nana Visitor in 5x11. Also, we have seen that Bajoran couple before.

TigerMyth

I must have somehow missed that first episode when it aired. Then I must have missed it in repeats and when I did a rewatch. Or.... maybe I skipped it because I didn't want to watch a pregnant Kira episode. I have no clue. That really is one of the darkest Trek episodes. Killing off Kira's friends including friends from an earlier episode. Then the looming threat of cutting the baby out. Yikes. I know there are episodes where more people die but this still felt like at least top tier darkest episode of Trek. I still put that Voyager episode as number 1 on the darkest list. Don't discuss it. No spoilers. If you've seen it, you know which one I am talking about.

These were good episodes. Hope your cold is getting better.

Banes

I really like both of these. Just a couple issues that bother me with the first one - Kira's old cohorts die offscreen so abruptly...it's a bummer! I really like them! The other thing, I don't know if it's dorky of me, but the killer is targeting the Shakaar resistance group but there's no mention of Shakaar, the leader of that group (and Kira's boyfriend!). I would have liked some explanation as to why we're not worried about his safety. And then he appears in the very next episode! That oversight always irks me a bit with The Darkness and the Light episode.

Once again we have people thinking that they are being smart by leaving sneaky comments. We see you. We can see how silly and spiteful you are being. Knock it off.

Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

I think I've made this joke before, but I'm really just here for J's Worf impersonation. Two very good episodes and two wonderful reactions. I'll be back with another comment if I manage to think of anything intelligent to say about the episodes themselves πŸ˜† Otherwise, bang up job as usual, J, and see you next week πŸ––πŸ«‘ Edit: and now I'm just all over the comment section πŸ˜† Ok, I'm really out this time, see y'all next week πŸ––

Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

Back in TNG we heard Geordie and O'Brien talk about tranporters like it was flying, like accidents are just a tiny percentage. Obviously it's true from a writing perspective (the transporters only ever malfunction when we "need" them to) but it's probably true inside the ST universe, we only ever hear about the accidents and not the millions transporting safely.

Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

This seems like a really basic thing to say, and I'm sure I'm not the first one to say it, but what a smart decision and unique concept to have Odo be this form (ha ha, get it) of shapeshifter rather than some of the ways it's portrayed in other shows/movies. Just the array of story choices to have Odo and the Founders be this type of goo, as J puts it, not to mention the particular type aesthetics it brings to the changing shape. It really is pretty cool.

phillip giroux

Talk about tonal whiplash between these two episodes. But I like both, especially baby day, plus, now Kira and Odo have a bit of a new bond from these experiences.

Kevin Sommerfield

Isn't Shakaar the Prime Minister? Maybe his security is just too good to get him physically, so killing Kiera is a way of getting him emotionally.

Banes

Maybe - I know this is supposed to be a Kira story, not a Shakaar story. Just some dialogue about it would have been enough - either "he's on Earth meeting with Federation Council" or "he's secure on Bajor". It is clear that Kira is the target. Just a little something to acknowledge the reason Shakaar himself is not in danger. Trek writers are usually great at that kind of thing - it's just a small oversight I guess.

Tom Evans

Here's a fun baby fact for this week: in 1997, about when season 5 of DS9 was airing, the wife of Robert O'Reilly (who plays Gowron) gave birth to triplet boys!

Andrew Roach

Here is a neat little touch that is easy to miss. When Odo was a Changeling he wasn't wearing clothes, the "clothes" we saw him in was just part of his form so when he changed it all blended together. In the Begotten when he changed at the end he had been wearing real clothes and if you look closely you can see then fall to the floor.

Sykonee

"So, we've this episode dealing with 'darkness and light' - are there any directors who're good at shadowy cinematography?" "Well, there's this guy that's getting well known for that over on B5..." It was nice to see Sloyan again, and have a more proper examination of the Mora-Odo father/son dynamic than we were only hinted at back in S2.

Lee

Kira mentioned the role her fellow Shakaar cell members played in the attack that maimed Silarin Prin. She didn't mention Shakaar's role, so it's safe to say he wasn't personally involved.

Charles

The real monster was Kira all along...
