I love this film. Its genesis is strange, since it was filmed during a Hollywood writer's strike and they couldn't technically have the writer available for consultation. So they had to make stuff up. Bruce Dern's peeling the wallpaper, and "About a 9 on the tension scale . . . " were improvised. And they didn't even know how the film was going to end. Several endings were filmed, including ones were Ray is killed and the Klopeks were innocent. Thankfully they settled on this one. And the first inkling about the film's tone (I think) is when the camera slowly pulls in on the faces for reactions - including the dog. The dog, BTW, was also in "Silence of the Lambs." And Goldsmith got it. His score is full of satire and stereotypical tropes. The tape looped trumpet triplets he used for Rumsfeld and their pseudo military shenanigans was borrowed from his own score for "Patton." And they directly lifted part of one of Ennio Morricone's spaghetti western scores. Yeah, he got the tone. Anyway, the movie did OK when it came out, but it wasn't a hit, and many of the reviews were not good. Like so many things, it has, however grown in popularity since, what with VHS and DVDs, and is now one of Dante's most popular films. He has a unique gift for blending horror with family films. One of my favorites, and one of his least noticed films, is "The Hole," (2009) wherein kids find a trap door in their basement floor which apparently covers a bottomless pit. Worth watching.

I believe I recall her claiming last year she wasn't 'ready' for it yet... and, unless she does one more poll this coming week and includes it there, I guess she apparently *still* isn't. Weird, since I don't think it took that much arm-twisting for her to watch "The Shining" or "The Exorcist," 2 movies which many consider even scarier than TCM. 🤷‍♂️

I knew a guy that wanted to sue Cory Feldman because his dog got lose and ran in front of his bike and made him wreck. Feldman’s lawyer told him to get in line and so he never filed. The garbage man with the glasses is Robert Picardo the EMH program on Voyager that you already knew about.
