Zero Three

the ending is a set up for the movie 'The Eminence in Shadow: Lost Echoes'. its been in production for years now and there is some hope it might be released either this year or the next but nothing is guaranteed it would be.

Neila Reacts~

wait how many years has the movie been in production?

Cons

The novel might give you a better feel for what's to come (the movie part is in volume 4)

Zero Three

If you want to read the manga. (the manga is currently ahead of the anime) then if you want to continue from where this episode ends off then start with chapter 46. however I would recommend reading it from the start as it does have some style changes and some differences from the anime.

Zero Three

It was announced on the 20th of December, 2023

Cons

I get it 😭 but the novel is really, in my opinion, the best form of media aside from the anime. Has the most information. Manga is also good though, don't recommend web novel much.

Some guy

The Kage-Jitsu shorts are worth a watch. They're pretty funny, and the last one slightly retcons the ending (hint: someone goes with him)

Neila Reacts~

oh ok that s not TOO bad tbh, hopefully it comes out this year or early next year

Neila Reacts~

i will watch them and compile them into one video since i noticed they r like 2 mins each lol will make it patreon exclusive since i'm not sure if anyone would be interested on youtube

Guinaur

Hehe yeah the first time i watched this season, I was not a big fan of how it ended. I'm sure there's a reason for why it went in this direction, but it was very confusing on the first watch.

Neila Reacts~

thank God i m not the only one :(( i thought i might have missed something OOF

Cons

Also, the only game has great side stories like 7 shadow chronicles and Apocrypha

Nick

Hard to tell. But movie was confirmed shortly after s2 ended. They announced earlier this year we would get eminence news on March 29th. So fan base is hoping it's about the Movie and not the game lol

wiski

It was first announced in December of 2023, so we've been waiting a while....

Nick

I LOVED the ending personally. Switched it up and made things different. I personally watch the series for Cid anyways so as long he's there I'm fine. But I also read the manga first so I didn't have to wait for what came next. Was also still a hilarious arc!

Neila Reacts~

that s fair. I already got attached to all the characters so getting them ripped away from me just like that was kinda UHHHH yeah lol

Nick

i mean that's understandable! The anime ending left out one detail, that the shorts retconned. So if you watch the shorts you may be a bit more satisfied with what's to come!

LolLolowaty

So that Mordred was explaining that sometimes worlds collide. When Cid died, world collided and he was isekai'd, while (maybe later, maybe at the same time) magic, monsters etc. came to his world. This is not another universe - HE CAME BACK

Ketanak

even in the manga the earth arc was mid. I guess the author needed to draw something else than oriana's kingdom for a few chapters

Nick

🧢

Dethrox

Mordred VA is playing in Slime aswell :D you should be able to spot him when he appears^^ also i doubt we will stay on earth too long.. it wouldnt be eminence in shadow without its shadow garden :D bet he will open another portal at the end of a movie and we will be back or something :D

Dethrox

imagine if this happened with each isekai shows :DD

GargantuanWitch

Fun fact: One of the 2 thugs that captures Nishino Akane at the end is voiced by the same voice actor as Benimaru from slime anime.

Tyler

The harder you try to understand the ending, the more your brain is going to hurt.

SleepyOldBear

My interpretation of the ending was that in the world Cid was originally living in had a realmatic collision with the one with Shadow Garden, hence his original world now has magic. There's clearly a time discrepancy between the two realms, as 16 odd years passed in the Shadow Garden realm compared to about 5-7 ish in Cid's original realm. He went back to his o.g. world. My impression was that the collision between the two realms and the introduction of magic caused an apocolytpic even of sorts, or at least societal breakdown. (I haven't read the manga) Just my two pence.

George McCall

The simple explanation is this, when Shadow made the "black hole" he got sucked back to his original world, time has passed in the world based on Nishino saying she was in her 20s. Based on Mordreds explanation I took it that when Cid died and was Isekaid the dimensions collided giving our world magic while takings Cids soul.

Elisabeth

When the movie comes out a lot should be explained so there's no need to rush towards manga for answers. Great series, great reactions and other series to follow while waiting for the return of Shadow in 2023!No wait... 2025? 2026... Someday!

Lost

So, when the realms hit each other, some things carry over from both sides. The world we've been watching for like 99% of the show, didn't originally have magic or magical beasts, those came from other realms. So, when Shadow's original world collided with the one he got isekaid into, Shadow went there, while at the very least magic went to the original world, maybe magic beasts too going by how it looks. I don't know for sure, I'm just assuming here, but by what I'm understanding... They did also say that Atlantis, originating from the isekai world, disappeared when they hit another realm. I'm going to assume it's the same Atlantis we know from the stories, meaning it's not the first time the isekai world and the original world have collided. I'm sorry for the wall of text, lol

Neila Reacts~

nah it s all good, no worries! i was just really confused to see him kinda repeat the same thing he did in the beginning of the anime (deja vu) so i was more thinking he like went to an alternate universe and also how like the characters are kinda cyberpunk looking. It was just shocking to me that all of a sudden we are being teleported to earth and gg to all the characters we got attached to since the beginning .

Neila Reacts~

is this a theory or r u just straight up spoiling the manga?

Neila Reacts~

but that s not a good thing for an ending tho...

Neila Reacts~

yeah but it didnt go back to the time he got hit by the truck but instead back in time and is repeating the same thing that happened to the girl in the beginning. Idk, the ending is confusing for someone that hasnt seen the manga or knows what happens next.

Tyler

No it's not lol

Tony

There are audio books for it too if your in to that sort of thing

Dethrox

Theory^^ i dont read manga :D i did used words doubt.. and bet.. dunno why it came out as possible spoiler?

Lost

Found it kinda funny that the start and ending is the same, it just fits with how silly the show is. Kinda 50/50 if we get to know what happened while he was isekaied or not. I personally doubt they'd just ditch the isekai cast, they'll probably return, just need Shadow to brute force another black hole so we can see the girls in new post-apocalyptic outfits, surely

Neila Reacts~

i hope we get to see the girls again but i mean i dont mind the new vibe and environnement. it just felt sudden xD hopefully the upcoming news is about the movie!

SleepyOldBear

I agree, it went to a point beyond the time Cid died in that world. The two of them did look to have extensive medical mechanical components, which could explain how they survived. Looking forward to seeing what the actual explanation is because I have no idea really, just my theory.

Kiro

Thanks for the reaction. I really liked it.

LAR Games

You're watching Konsuba next!? Man, you're getting to all the greats, aren't you? lol The only missing ones would be Isekai Ojisan and Let this Grieving Soul Retire. A warning about Konosuba though. the OVAs are not canon. They also spoil very important things about plot points that haven't happened at the time of that OVA's release. Think of them as animated fanfictions that are based on spoilers.

LAR Games

While I do like the idea of the end of the second season all coming back to the start in this way, it doesn't really make sense. This also isn't really canon. At least, not how it happens here. Notice they call Nishino "The Savior". There's a reason for that. Those 2 guys would not be enough to take her down. She isn't defenseless anymore. What IS canon is the state of Cid's original world. Magic has seeped into it and everything is pretty apocalyptic just like it was shown here. The only thing that the anime did was add that interaction with the Yakuza guys coming back as cyborgs for some reason. (Well, the reason was for the sake of a callback.)

LAR Games

It's not back in time. It was just a callback to what happened to Nishino when she was in high school. That's why she was reminiscing about Cid when he was still Mineru Kageno. It's been a couple of years till Cid disappeared from his original world.

LAR Games

He's also the titular Isekai Ojisan! Which I hope Neila watches some day. It's such a good series.

LAR Games

I honestly wished it had lasted longer...

LAR Games

Actually it's the anime ending that's not really fully canon. The version where "someone goes with him" is actually the actual canon. The anime just wanted to do a callback to the first episode.

Dredgen Colin

I’m a little confused how you can say “this isn’t really canon” and also “the only thing the anime did was add that interaction with the Yakuza guys coming back as cyborgs…” in the same comment. If you mean the fact that she’s currently strong enough to handle the two of them: a) as you mentioned, they weren’t originally cyborgs / didn’t come back at all (I haven’t read the LN, so I can’t say for sure — but magic cyborgs are still nothing to scoff at lol), b) as they said, those cuffs suppressed whatever powers she has, and c) it might be worth letting things play out. It’s entirely possible there will be changes to the story that the author wished he could have made in the original version. As far as we know, not even the manga has caught up to this point yet — only the light novel has. Because of that, the anime may end up shaping what people view as the “new canon,” especially since it’s currently the most popular version of the story by a wide margin. TEITS was definitely a successful LN, but its reach still doesn’t quite compare to how widely seen and well-received the anime has been. Also, every episode has reportedly been watched and approved by the author before release. That makes it seem likely that any changes presented in the anime reflect ideas the author himself is comfortable with or wanted to include. The light novel began in 2018 — eight years ago — and has been on hiatus for four years, while the author has stayed closely involved with the anime’s production. It’s possible he’s using this opportunity to rethink or refine the direction the story will take in its main form. The first telling of a story doesn’t always equal absolute canon. In the end, canon is whatever story the author ultimately decides to tell, so for now it might be best to just wait and see how things develop — especially with the movie coming up. (Personally, I fully expect SG girls to appear in the story going forward. No clue how it will happen, but Shadow is legitimately deity-class at this point. I'd expect it to happen in a more "not his intent but conveniently suiting him" fashion as the story loves to do, or someone on Shadow Garden's end(Eita or Alpha if I had to guess) creates/wields the means to allow them to follow him. But he could absolutely will it into reality, if he wanted.)

NotFunny

There's a movie set to release next year that should bridge between s2 to s3

MarshMell0w

Well with trailer for the movie's out. I can finally say that the ED for the end of s2 is anime only and probably not canon to the story.

Tim See

I hope Akane knows him but I suspect she doesn't.

Tim See

I love her being confused lol and I feel a lot of people are the same. I came right from ep 1 to see if you recognized Akane.
