The anime was pretty Hype in a very confidential manner : the original webnovel is super popular in China (it's the only webnovel to ever have been entered into the national Library of China) and has a very devoted fan club internationally but it's still a pretty restricted circle.

There was a potential for it to get popular but between the drip-feeding of informations, the breakneck pace of the first few episodes and the somewhat botched international release (delayed dubs release, awful subs on Crunchyroll initially, before a backlash forced them to improve it to the standard you're looking at), you got a lot of reactors abandoning the show after the first two episodes… The pace improved after that, and the anime (donghua) and original content was popular enough in China that there are firm plans for the regular release of the rest of the books, until the final season in 2035. This year there should be a special episode, basically a movie, following an arc from the first book that wasn't covered in the first season. Plus without the simuldubs coming through, the voice acting in Chinese is still repellent to many Anime fans that are accustomed to Japanese VAs. There were still a good few reactions on YouTube but not enough apparently. 🥲

Yeah, the initial release of this was botched, which put off a lot of people. Plus, I believe people in the comments overexplaining made this series seem too daunting to get into. The people who stayed and watched it all the way all said this was their anime of 2025 lol.
