History College Graduate ramble Interestingly, the scene of the people dumping the gold into the lake is the closest to a 'real' El Dorado that ever existed in history. During Spain's conquest of Central and South America, they would regularly hear legends about a tradition where a king is painted in gold dust, and then dives into a lake, washing it all off. This would be done at the same time other gold offerings were dumped into the lake. When the Spanish finally found this lake, they found lots of gold artifacts inside. The idea of a whole city of gold was because of the culture difference between the Old and New worlds. To the native people, gold had no real practical value outside of offering it to gods. In fact, due to the lack of mining and differences in geology, people in the New World would literally just find gold on the ground or on riverbeds. But anyone from Europe would think it's insane to just dump a bunch of gold in a lake and leave it there. Gold was obviously extremely desired, and getting it in Europe required complicated mining and lots of manpower. This created the idea that if the natives were so casual about dumping gold into a random lake, they must have TONS more, a literal city built of gold. This was made worse when the people the Spanish encountered tried to placate them by offering them gold. There was always the idea that the native people were 'holding out' on how much they actually had.

watched this after finishing work. loved this movie as a kid, had it on DVD. watched it so much that i had memorized almost every line, down to the voice and intonation. including all the songs. Yeah, the Chel & Tulio scene was definitely... not something I realized until after i grew up. it is sad they didn't stay in el dorado, but for the three of them, they'd go stir-crazy. they're natural adventurous people who can't stay in one place for too long. For a recommendation, and something likely completely different, what about the 2004 film "Phantom of the Opera" xD

The chief is my favourite character after Miguel, "to err is to human" was Miguel line (48:09) that the chief throw back at him. and at 1:31:32 he act like Miguel big bro, go say goodbye to your friend! and yeah, discord was right about Chel, it certainly shape a lot of kid taste about Latinas😂. 1:01:49 Chel was kissing Tulio, but her head position was a little low compare to where Tulio head was, what was she kissing... do with this knowledge as you will.😂

Regarding the animation: Yeah, dreamworks always put a lot of effort into their animation. I feel like I heard somewhere that many animators that used to be in disney eventually went over to dreamworks because disney was so obsessed with cranking results out quickly whereas dreamworks would do fewer projects but put more time into them (which means the animators could actually do their jobs well). I'm not sure if that was just some internet rumour that I picked up or if it's actually true though, so don't quote me on that part. As an example. Shrek, How to train your Dragon, Kung Fu Panda, Megamind, Wild Robot, and the prince of egypt are all dreamworks. Which, imo, all have exceptionally good animation (and very good story writing).

This version of chell was deemed to be to sexy so her design was changed to this
