What I love about this movie that makes it stand out against other horror movies is that two of the three main characters are really knowledgeable about sharks, but it's still not enough. Normally, a monster is scary because you/the characters don't know the rules or how it works. Quint and Hoopers plans would have totally worked...against a normal shark. But Bruce is a literal monster, and all the academic knowledge and practical experience just flies out the window.

JAWS is my favorite movie. I first saw it when I was 5 at my grandfathers house and 34 years later it's still my favorite. A fun fact, the reporter on the beach, the one you said reminded you of Austin Powers was Peter Benchley. The man who wrote the original novel for JAWS.

Ah yes. The first summer blockbuster. This film changed the way movie release schedules were made.

31:10 that was a real picture taken of a Great White victim post mortem.

Jaws' release was unique at the time for a couple of reasons. First off, summer used to be a less popular time of year for movie releases. Jaws' success changed that, and over the next couple of decades after Jaws, the number of summer movies doubled. Also, as weird as it seems now, movies didn't have big nation/world-wide releases before Jaws. It was one of the first movies to release simultaneously at a large number of movie theaters on a set day.

You should watch some of Shark Week later this summer Neila, very entertaining and informative on sharks. Probably could do watch along with chat :D Has Neila seen Spielberg's other blockbuster, Jurassic Park ?

Fun fact: the original book is actually considered by most people to be inferior to the movie, the characters are extremely unlikable, the writing is inconsistent and the ending was very anti climactic. It’s a rare thing to have a film be better than the source material.

meaning its still a horror movie where you dont know the rules or how it works like other horror movies. wrong information still means they are ignorant about the monster.

A cult classic! But one flaw about this film is that it kinda vilified sharks ever since it released. It's an amazing movie, but unless you either piss them off, get near their pups, or they are that desperate for food, they'll leave you alone for the most part.(Except for Bull Sharks, from what I heard, they're just Assholes.)
