The video is now available! Watch with the embedded stream above, or download it here. EDIT: Updated the video to include Kevin's avatar, which was inadvertently hidden in the previous edit.

This month's Super and Ultra Traxian exclusive webinar focuses on our most claymation movie to date: 1995's Gumby: The Movie. The old Gumby shorts were always a favorite in the MST3K days, so you can imagine how excited we are to take on Gumby and his pal Pokey in feature-length form. We had much to discuss about this delightfully odd offshoot of the classic TV show.

Super and Ultra Traxians get the extra benefit of being in the Live Zoom Chat and submit questions through the Q&A system, and the Video is now available to Traxians at all levels.

Enjoy!

You guys sure you want to go there? After Crow & Servo's painful reaction to Robot Rumpus? Well OK, then I'm down! Milk and crackers for everybody!!

Karl Hamann

Do you know the mystic-Hindoo back story to Gumby? Seems his creator was having no luck selling his claymation fantasies. He goes to India, gets a "satsang" (holy interview) with a genuine guru,, Sai Baba, I believe, the Gunmby gets blessed, and soon after ward, success & a franchise follow!

Karl Hamann

Clokey! Art Clokey was Gumby's creator's name!

Doug Mandrusiak

I can't say with utmost certainty, but I've heard that Soylent Green is Gumby.

Re: Gumby's Pizza, many college towns have them. The selling point is that they're cheap and open until like 3AM or so. (UT Austin had three or four but apparently they don't have any now.) https://www.gumbyspizza.com/ There's enough nostalgia for it that they're on GoldBelly (the site that sells you like NY deli from NY or Chicago-style pizza from Chicago, etc.).

I posted a Q & A early in - “what exactly IS Gumby?” - question wasn’t used but it was pretty much the theme of the Zoom call - keep doing these!

Garance A Drosehn

I've never seen the Gumby movie, and I'm not even sure I ever saw episodes of Gumby, but I had the impression that he was meant to get kids interested in reading books. You can go on a million different adventures thanks to the local library!

Emma Schroeder

I need someone to post Kevin's Gumby Zoom icon since it didn't show up in the video. lol

I love how these always turn into a general Midwest culture Q&A.

Gumby “cartoons” (actually stop-motion animation) are the strangest things I saw as kid’s programming growing up. Or maybe Popeye cartoons

Spiky Mikie

As a kid on Saturday mornings (Same age as you, Kevin) Gumby was on early, like 7am, before the "Real cartoons" started. It was either that, or Agriculture USA. Needless to say, I watched a lot of Gumby, DAMMIT!

Karl Hamann

In Omaha, in the early sixties, seeing Gumby was a rare treat; But during the Sunday morning cartoon vacuum before Church (Misssouri Synod Lutheran, thank you) Davey and Goliath, Clokey's Christian offering was all there was between me and professional bowling. We're talking clam flowage-level programming here!

Donna McNeil

In college I used to work at Gumby's Pizza in Athens, GA. Yet I knew nothing of the magic that is Gunbasia.

Jeff

I love Mike's "virtual" background!

Marisa Rosen

omggg this movie was my favorite as a kid my dad and i watched it all the time and we still have a gumby and pokey toy!

Thomas Van Horne

Thing about Gumby and the people of his world, they're made of clay as claymation figures and they're fully AWARE that they're made of clay and apparently aware that they themselves are fictional because in their world fiction and reality are the same I watched all of Gumby (I think) as a kid (along with Davey and Goliath) because there wasn't enough television -- but you have made me think more about Gumby than ever I did

Bleriana

This looks like a fun riff and I was absolutely delighted by how many questions Mike had about the Gumbyverse. Can’t wait to watch!
