I both knew this is where Sutton’s head would be at and was as gobsmacked as she was at Charlotte’s response. But I suppose to change the ending to their story (in the AU), Charlotte has to have changed (and she seemingly has). I’m dying to know the fallout from here. My first initial reaction is there's no way Sutton will agree to Charlotte not running for president and that they'll still figure everything out together (even with Charlotte running). However, the more I've thought about it, the more it makes sense that Charlotte would choose not to run and be with Sutton and Lucy. She's older and has had time/experience to realize that as great as her political career is, it isn't going to satisfy all of her needs without a partner/family.

I a, shocked no one is saying anything about Layla. Am I the only one angry at Layla? At how selfish she seems? Sounds like she wants to make it about Luce but it really is all about her being worried about the scrutiny her affair might get? Urgh. Sutton grew up with a father in politics, and turned out wonderfully. I hope she can see that. Although I also absolutely loved Charlotte’s vulnerability and realization that she is willing to give it all up for Sutton. Just another incredible chapter. I don’t want the TWW content to ever end. Never ever, please! Even if it means going through this rollercoaster on a nonstop loop. I’m a sucker for these two characters and their story, in any shape, way, or form. The waiting for this chapter will be a sadness fading into madness…. (Spoiler Alert for anyone who is reading these comments and for some bizarre reason has not yet read TWW) Speaking of “Say Don’t Go,” as soon as I read the original TWW novel last week, I found myself thinking that this would be the song for the scene at the coffee shop when Sutton said “I love you” and Charlotte said nothing back. So many other lyrics in this song fit this scene so well, in my mind.

This has been knocking around my head for days. Initially I was shocked but can see it makes sense as the spotlight on them all if Charlotte did launch a presidential bid would be so intense. So I’m thinking Charlotte puts her political dream aside (sort of, she’d still be a senator though) and catches up, as it were, to a more cannon-like, fulfilling family life. Then, once they have another child together and both children have grown and left home, Charlotte runs for president in her 60s.

Haley, I love every book you’ve published, and have read/listened to them each multiple times. But, I’m having a hard time reading Midnight Rain. I think the problem is that you did such an amazing job writing Those Who Wait, and I can’t stand the thought of Sutton and Charlotte not ending up together! You made me fall in love with the characters so much that reading a story where Sutton married someone else, and they didn’t get their happily ever after ending, just breaks my heart!
