Hey guys 👋 Time for a progress update!

So, I've been thinking of a way of making it easier to access the newly updated section for the demo. The demo currently sits at 272.8K words already and by the time of the next update, it might break through the 300K words. That's as long as some fully finished books in COG or HG!

Since ChoiceScript doesn't really have an in-built save function, I believe that the save plug-in that is used for demos on dashingdon stores your save files in your browser's cache. This means, if you delete your browser's cache or if your browser's setting does so automatically after a period of time, you will have to replay the game over from the beginning again when the update rolls around.

I'm thinking of adding a skip function to get you to the nearest point to the updated content. This will require me to add a series of questions you'll have to answer to set all the necessary variables before being brought to the skip point in the story.  I was reluctant to do this previously because I have tons of variables being tracked in the background, some of which you can see in the hidden stats section of the stat screen.

Some questions you'll just have to choose, but for others you might have to input the text and values on your own. So, I recommend you always screenshot your characters' stats at the end of your playthrough, including (and most importantly), the hidden stats as well since they contain various invisible stats that are being tracked in the background.

Before I begin writing on the next update in earnest, I'll try to get this skip function done first and I'll update it to the Patreon Early Access demo where you guys will be able to try it out and let me know if you have any suggestions to further improve it. This will also hopefully root out some bugs early and by the time the next update rolls out, you guys will be able to use the skip function without any problems.

I'm currently working on the spicy side story, which will be expected to come out in the next few days. As soon as that's done, I'll get to work on the skip function, which, hopefully, will only take around a week at most to get done.

Also, I'll be opening the side story and spicy side story requests again tomorrow, so keep an eye out for that! 😁 If you have any story ideas, get ready to suggest them soon!

That's all I have for this week, and let me know if you have questions regarding the planned skip function or if you have comments about it below or in the #patreon-general-discussion channel over in my Discord channel! 🥰

Honestly if it's a lot of trouble, I don't really feel like you need to do a skip function. I've gotten so used to it in other WIPs that I usually don't find it much trouble to just speed through remembering exactly what choices I did, and it can be a good refresher if a new update just came out as well. Otherwise excited for the new update when it's ready!

Not related but I recently played Fallen Hero: Retribution and they had checkpoints, so if you did an action you regretted, you could just replay that chapter. Will Vendetta have something similar? No worries if not, FHR is literally the only game I've played on CS that had it, so I was just curious.

I can honestly say that putting in a skip feature is quite troublesome, even using Twine that does have inbuilt plugins.

I'm glad you don't really mind breezing through the previous chapters 😊 I'm just a bit concerned that other readers might find it to be a hassle, which is why I've been thinking about it 😅 But yeah, if it turns out to be too much of a trouble, I might just abandon it for now until I find another way to do it. I kinda have an idea on how I might tackle it, and I hope everything goes well and smoothly! Also, I suppose I can do the skip to the chapter before the update so you might get some refresher on the previous update 🤔 Thanks for letting me know what you think about the skip function! 🥰

Ah, yeah. I've also been thinking about adding checkpoints but not in the demo yet, since in the demo, you have the save slots and you can always make your own checkpoints through that. But in the final game, I might try to do add checkpoint system too, especially since Vendetta is going to be a long book. Still not too sure how the checkpoint system works exactly and I think this is even harder than the skip function 🤔 I'll have to give it a lot of thought and do some research before trying to tackle it. Well, I still have a lot of time for this checkpoint system because it won't be until the final draft that I'll try adding it.

Ooh, I've never actually seen a skip feature in any Twine game yet so far. I've always thought Twine games don't really need it because you can actually save your save files in your computer instead of simply in your browser's cache like in ChoiceScript. But yeah, as I've touched upon in the reply to the comment above, I already have some kind of idea on how to tackle this skip function and I'll try to implement it first. But if it proves to be too troublesome, I might have to drop it altogether for now. Thank you for letting me know about this! 💖

It mostly depends on how long the story is. But yes, you can create a save file with twine, but with everything, changes in the writing can require a fresh start.
