if i had to guess they were like pine radiating their energy to the surroundings, sooo perhaps in an act of desperation to keep themselves alive they seperated their own being, probably not in the intended way into meaning and life. if im right that worked but im guessing not as intended, since while they did survive... the world seems to be dead and the seperating of self led to war.
