"Oh, it's not the restaurant I miss; it's the people, Hank. Managing people. Telling them what to do and then watching as they do it." - Peggy Hill

Missing the powers of management, Peggy becomes a saleswoman for Metalife, a triangle plan that's not necessarily a pyramid scheme. When her family lets her down, she finds an unlikely business partner in Bill, whose sad devotion to Peggy finally gets put to the test on the ritzy streets of San Antonio.

Can't wait till you get to season 11 where peggy falls for a different MLM

Little Bosses Everywhere by Bridgett Read is a really good book/audiobook about MLMs as a rot at the core of the US. She was on TrueAnon around when it came out if you want a short version.

Woohoo! Talking of the hill day!

Over the last year my son and I have fell into the routine of reading a chapter of a book and then watching a Conan sketch on YouTube before bed. I can confirm his playful antics with women definitely feel more awkward in today's day and age.

Gayest Episode Ever

You guys should watch Tootsie, and when you do, I think you’ll be surprised how much Dustin Hoffman in drag looks like Jennifer Aniston.

It was actually after giving a bad review to the Vincent Gallo movie ‘Brown Bunny’ and Gallo calling him a "fat pig with the physique of a slave trader." that Ebert quoted Churchill (who was quoting the movie Its A Gift) “It is true that I am fat, but one day I will be thin, and he will still be the director of The Brown Bunny."

The 'bobwehadababyitsaboy' commercial wasn't even advertising collect calls, it was a fucking Geico commercial to save on insurance!

Bob brought back some rough GameStop memories. Having to sell the magazine, pre-orders, disc protection, etc. Our hours at the store were based on how much of this crap we sold.

When I worked at EB Games (the Canadian wing of GameStop at the time) the main item we'd pitch for everyone was the "Gameplay Guarantee" (GPG) which was an extended warranty on a copy of a game. That, and we were told that we were to push "pre-owned" (used) games and consoles harder than everything, even though the discounts were generally about 5% off compared to new. This was because used copies were 100 % profit for the stores as they had been purchased from customers for store currency. If someone bought a new Wii or PS3 it would ruin our stats...

When I bought Mario & Luigi Brothership the Gamestop clerk added the extended warranty without asking me. Never going back there again if I can help it

I have nothing BUT contempt for this court

On the size of San Antonio, going by the whole metro area or “Combined Statistical Area” it’s on the smaller side compared to Dallas or Houston. San Antonio is the same size as Salt Lake City and Pittsburgh . Where as Dallas and Houston close in size to each other and each individual similar in size to Boston and the Bay Area.

I'm also surprised that Bill was actually selling that well. Saying that he convinced the hotel to stock Metalife in their minibar sounded like a lie.

So, my mom's been a participant of several mlms. Avon, herbalife and the newest being princess house. They don't tend to last too long but as my mom doesnt have much of an education its up to me to keep track of her sales. For free. I try to tell her they're scams but she's kinda hard headed and impulsive so we'll see how long her latest job lasts

One of my favorite details in the episode was that when Peggy was in San Antonio hank had to make dinner and all that was for dinner was a steak on their plate. No Sides.

Pretty sure selling on army bases was never illegal bc my dad sold my Girl Scout Cookies while working there (about 25 years ago); won second place in sales one year too

This is one of the all time bangers of KOTH. Also unrelated but I heard Feels So Good in a local grocery chain today and it brought a tear to my eye. Rest in Peace Chick Mangione.

Keep these two hour TalKing of The Hill Podcasts going!

My sister and I were not allowed to have TVs in our rooms, mostly so we couldn't watch it all night instead of going to bed. But we did have three and eventually four TVs in the home so we could always watch something we wanted. The one computer in the home was what we had to coordinate for instead because my dad, sister, and I always had something we needed to do on it. My mom was the only one who basically never used it.

I work graveyard at an Amazon delivery station so I usually listen to your podcasts at work and I always look forward to Talking of The Hill episodes

San Antonio person here, I also would have guessed Dallas is bigger.
