"Jessica, I don't think we should hang out together anymore. You're turning me into a criminal, when all I want to be is a petty thug." - Bart Simpson

Bart falls in love—again—when the previously unseen Lovejoy daughter arrives in Springfield and makes him consider cleaning up his act. But when Jessica identifies his bad boy status and reveals her true colors, Bart becomes the fall guy for a number of her attention-seeking schemes.

fun fact: Jessica Lovejoy was voiced by Michie Tomizawa (Sailor Mars) as a guest star in the Japanese dub, and she does a phenomenal job. So whenever I see that character, I always think of Sailor Mars.

Since this specific episode is dropping on April Fools' Day, I have to share a story of a minor event that I've been overthinking for 20 years. 😂 I went to grad school and the main department building had a directory in the lobby with names and pictures of the faculty/staff and grad students. On April Fools' Day, one grad student (who was also Simpsons obsessed) replaced the directory with a poster that assigned everyone a Simpsons character. I got Jessica Lovejoy and I still don't know how to feel about it because she was cute but legitimately evil. I didn't date any of my classmates and/or frame them for crimes 🤣. I was the only black woman around so Janey was right there. I never got the impression that there was any attraction on his end and we were acquaintances more than anything, but this episode always makes me wonder how crazy would it be to message him on LinkedIn and have the "dude, what was that all about" conversation I should have had back then. 😂

I wish my teeth were still able to handle milk duds because they were definitely a favorite of mine when I was eating candy regularly. My dad also likes Whoppers which I never got but there are some where the malt ball is smaller and has more chocolate and those taste better to me at least.

I still have some remnants of my old Dino Riders toys. what a great line of toys.

The song Soul Man is by Sam & Dave, not James Brown (35:44). And looks like they’ve never used it in one of the Trollz movies? As Bart proves it’s right there for the taking!

the spongebob "reach into his pockets NOW and take what he's got" from their F.U.N. episode is another (great) iteration of Lisa's "personal hell" joke

When Bart is strutting he passes the school and appears to be a giant.

I love that Bob mentioned the Maltesers/whoppers thing here because, being a Canadian kid, I always assumed that Maltesers WERE the local version of Milk Duds, partially because they had a bad taste! So when Bart said "poison in the middle" i immediately associated that with the Maltesers, which taste bad in the middle!

I always saw Lisa's crush on the library guy as another 'take that lisa's beliefs' bit, in that she is so boring that she'd moon over someone so normal as if he was some kind of bad boy.

Gayest Episode Ever

The surprise at how many Bones episodes exist reminds me of how I would program my ex’s DVR to record every episode of Bones airing on any channel ever. Because the lesser cable channels would air twenty episodes day, and it would instantly fill up his DVR and erase the stuff he was trying to save.

I used to work for a woman who met Meryl Streep through our business and had a photo of them together on her desk. Streep was wearing her Simpsons cast jacket.

My favorite bizarre tie in to that Frankenstein movie was the pinball table by Sega, if only because you had the option to have a cover of Edgar Winter's Frankenstein as the background music.
