"I've never felt so accepted in all my life. These people look deep within my soul and assign me a number based on the order in which I joined." - Homer J. Simpson

Who controls the British crown? Who keeps the metric system down? Homer finds out when some light stalking leads to his discovery of The Stonecutters: a secret society that exists deep within the underbelly of Springfield. But will this new gang of cloak-wearing, pool-playing drunks eventually become yet another No Homers Club?

A highly underrated Patrick Stewart performance is in “Masterminds” he gets unhinged. I haven’t seen it in almost 30 years, but I clearly remember Sir Patrick ripping off his jacket, showing a Manchester United shirt and just screams”UNITEDDDDD!”

I was never active on NoHomers, but I was in that invite-only "Stonecutters" forum in the early 00s. There have to be a handful of us who made our way to this Patreon.

My dad was very briefly in Knights of Columbus and my family (dad included) always referred to it as “The Stonecutters” to make it seem less boring. My understanding of the Knights of Columbus is that back when Catholics weren’t allowed in other lodges they made their own lodge with black jack and hookers but it was basically the same thing but named for that outstanding Catholic man whom everybody loves, Christopher Columbus. I went with my dad a few times as a little kid in those “if you’re going out, take the kids with you” situations and their lodge/building was just a bar with a pool table and most definitely no girls allowed except for the lady bartender and girl children that my dad and a few other members had to bring along. I remember getting in trouble along with the other kids for hogging the pool table and sitting on the bar stools but there were no iPads in the 90s and nothing else to do. My dad quit after a few months and the only reason my parents have ever given is “they were very sexist” but I also think my dad was just as bored as I was. He did tell us that if he had stayed long enough he would have gotten a hat and a sword and I was disappointed that I never got to play with the “Stonecutter sword” but was happy that my dad resumed taking us to the arcade or video store instead of the sad, boring bar.

Was part of one of these type of organizations (kinda)., The Ancient Order of Hibernians, the Irish American fraternal organization. In high school i was made by my family to take part in my senior so we only did the marching in the St Patrick's Day part and volunteering part, not the drunken revelry part. Didn't keep up with it because I'm fairly certain being homosexual is one of the things that would have gotten me kicked out anyway.

Whenever I watch this episode, Homer using the yellow paint to track Lenny and Carl always feels like it’s a setup for a joke where Homer gets lost on the way because the paint creates a dividing line in the road. But maybe that’s just Homer being extra clever since that would keep Lenny and Carl from noticing paint coming from the back of their car.

My friend joined a Moose lodge in his 30s. I believe he was the youngest member by a couple of decades. He briefly tried to get me to join as well but I really had no interest, drinking with a bunch of old guys.

I did indeed supervise a Bimbo’s Initiation restoration. It’s not whatever’s on YT. It will be on Blu-ray eventually.

This is slightly off topic much like the band itself, NRBQ. I was watching old episodes of the Drew Carrey Show (s3e5) and Oswald (Diedrich Bader) was wearing a NRBQ tshirt. As it turns out, Scully and Bader are friends and he voiced a character on the Simpsons during Scully’s tenure (s11e19). They also worked together on the Napoleon Dynamite animated series. I love fun little linkages like this!

Picard Season 3 is nostalgic garbage that boils down to "What if the Borg infiltrated Starfleet and only spaceBoomers could be trusted to save the day?"

Devon Baxter

Sinbad's appearance on it's Always Sunny is top tier in my book.

Question for Bob: which episode of Married With Children has Al in a traffic jam stopped right outside their backyard? I guess they did that before this episode? I never liked this episode but I loved the fancy traffic tunnel shows up again in Simpsons: Hit and Run!

I enjoy the “who makes Steve Guttenberg a star?” line extra after discovering that, (according to Guttenberg himself, so should probably be taken with a grain of salt), what really got him his big break was sneaking onto the paramount lot, setting up an office for himself in an empty room and making calls setting up auditions for himself. So, who makes Steve Guttenberg a star? Steve Guttenberg does.

Proud A&E employee here. Delighted by the (accurate) History Channel and Lifetime mentions, also part of the network family. Pardon the shameless shilling… may I suggest Lifetime’s DEADLY DILF or MY DAUGHTER’S TRAPPED IN A THROUPLE?! I eagerly await your Letterboxd reviews

Just a quick anecdote: According to Mike Reiss, when John Swartzwelder found out he was nominated for an Emmy for the Stonecutters song , his response was, "There was a song in that episode?"

In my town we have two VFWs for some reason. Enrollment must be down significantly because they don’t require you to have been in the military to join anymore. I’ve been half tempted to sign up for the cheap drinks but can’t commit. Plus I’m sure the clientele wouldn’t be my bag anyway.

My wife and I still blow on our rings like Bart and Lisa whenever it is appropriate. One of the greatest episodes.

As we observe America's 250th birthday, I have to shout out the underappreciated line "we just created the greatest democracy on earth -you low life commoner-!"

Regarding the History Channel's programming, there was a great now dated Mission Hill joke where Andy complains that "It's always World War Ii. Never pirates or cave men. That's history, too, dammit!"

Bob Mackey

I believe it’s “We’ll Follow the Sun”
