There is one Comedy Central era episode involving a Zoidberg love plot if I recall correctly. Zoidberg starts dating a woman who runs a flower stand and can stand his horrible disgustingness as she was born without a sense of smell. I think the whole plot is him grappling with whether or not to fix her sense of smell through surgery. I remember it being decent for a later Futurama episode

I remember watching this when it first aired and getting a good laugh out of Fry's scream at the end of that act. I think what makes it is the zoom, music and the color of the scene changing. Every time he screams after that I would get a good laugh.

I think there's a little bit of "nice guy fantasy" in the character of Edna. She is probably representative of the popular, but shallow, girl who doesn't give the good guy nerdy type the time of day, but then when situations change beyond high school she's suddenly attainable. I think that's partly why she gets portrayed in a poor light, not that it makes it any better. I'm not as down on perverse, pick-up, artist Fry as you guys are only because I view him as dumb, ignorant, and of poor hygiene. In order for Fry to have ever been with a woman he'd probably have to resort to some seedy trickery. I've never thought of him as the "every man" of the show, more like a perversion of that archetype as most people aren't him. You're supposed to think of him as a potential every man, right up until he reacts with joy to find out every one he knows is dead and gone and he's in the year 3000. He's definitely less likable in this episode though and if he were this way all of the time then his character would have just become Bender, but with a dash of ignorance to excuse some of his poor behavior. And Zoidberg has a romantic episode in later seasons. Emilia Clarke from Game of Thrones is the guest star for it playing his human romantic interest who lacks a sense of smell. It's called Stench and Stenchibility and it doesn't address Zoidberg's species and their fatal love-making. I remember it being one of the better episodes from the season it aired during, though I haven't seen it in quite some time.

Leela’s Sean does finally make an appearance in the season 7 episode Fry and Leela's Big Fling.

Fry also had sex with a radiator. Then they radiator showed up at his funeral.

The animation and voice acting for Zoidberg this episode are PHENOMENAL. I love how well they find his character in this and how many ridiculous jokes they get out of him - including the bit you guys mentioned where he very clinically and precisely describes sex and then follows it up with "if you know what I mean." I also love the absurdity of the women giving birth gag, because how in the hell did Zoidberg get into that pool without anyone noticing him? -- I'm also glad you guys talked about how this episode has some very dated gender politics, especially coming out of Fry. One of the things I noted when watching the episode was that it does a great job of making Zoidberg out as a sadsack, but the way it's done results in the women being very shitty in a non-realistic, sexist way.

I distinctly remember seeing the preview for Put Your Head On My Shoulder immediately following the original airing of this (I know you guys go by production order and not airing) and thinking "oh wow, they actually had that ending decapitation gag carry into the next episode"; shouldn't have been surprised that it didn't but at this point in time the show was really starting to figure things out so it didn't seem like too much of a reach for them to do that.
